No matter what they thought at what stage, it's not only about how it turned out, but how, as a team from a humanitarian perspective, they handled it. Crunch, people suffering to the point where they would break down in isolated rooms, lack of direction, etc. Anyone who was involved with the team at this time is equally responsible as the higher-ups. No excuse for the suffering they caused. Damn Bioware.
Solid list, thanks for putting this together! It's great to see indies get the spotlight with articles like this. For the future, can we see trailers for these games embedded in the article?
It's very challenging to appeal to everyone on one thing. Most often times, this is extremely difficult to manage. To start, JRPG's generally speaking, are not as easily approachable compared to normal games. It can be very overwhelming. On top of that you have the visual presentation where, let's face it,the majority of people do not resonate with humans with animal qualities, most often mistaken as "Furry" characters.
Way I see it, if you want to appeal these games to a much wider audience, you need to make the world and experience more grounded and reletable. Persona 5 was what changed the tide for western audiences to get into their games, they just have to follow what P5 did so well.
After reading what BioWare did to the employees and staff for this game, I had never been so upset with a developer in my life. I am glad Anthem is dead. In a way, it means those who were abused in the development of this game got a small grace of redemption for the suffering they endured.
I'm shocked that the game even survived up until this point. This game had so much potential. When the game was released, I tried to support it, but then all that stuff about BioWare came out, and how terrible they treated their employees with crunch and directionless work. It made me sick to my stomach, and I have never been more enraged with a developer. I say good riddance this game shut down, the industry will be a better place without terrible games like Anthem, and the horrific practices of Bioware.
@RoomWithaMoose in short, what makes the game so good is that it does so many things right in a video and it all comes together like a perfectly synchronized package. To top it off, you have such a unique and narrowing narrative accompanied by a beautiful sound track makes the game stand out like anything before. Lastly, in terms of design it's the best defition of how a game should be designed, a game that expands the more you play.
When I was about 20 hours in, I dropped the game to play hollow knight silk song, but then eventually I went back to exp. 33 and was shocked by what more the game offered at that point, and it just doesn't stop. So keep going, you're in for a wild ride.
@RoomWithaMoose I'm about 67% of the way through, and in my time playing the game, I absolutely see why it's being highly praised. Keep playing, and I promise you, it won't disappoint.
This would be fantastic! Hopefully it's a good remake and fairly priced! If so, then it's a day 1! 2026 is already looking to be an incredible year for games.

@Balaam_ What was better than Claire Obscure this year, and why?
Re: Best PS Vita Games of All Time
The fact that there is so much discourse on what games should be on the list, just shows how goated this system is.

Crazy that everyone but PlayStation is willing to acknowledge Bloodborne's existence at this point.
