Why would anyone be happy to continue paying for a service that used to be free and was an arbitrary cash grab in the first place? This is the fanboy mentality in full display. Why would you not prefer the more consumer friendly free service? I have a PS5 and switch and no Xbox this gen but the new Xbox having free online may sway me because after 5+ years of $110 CAD per year for ps plus essential, the supposed price gap between consoles would likely equal out but you’d be left with a more powerful machine and access to any pc/playstation/xbox game.

@Slayer25c Vast majority of push square commenters said the same thing about the next xbox console having other store fronts like Steam but now thats essentially confirmed. It makes sense given the next xbox console is a pc hybrid. Would be stupid to charge for online given its competing with the PC market.

About time. Ridiculous that console gamers are charged for online multiplayer in the first place.

@ErrantRob same here I'm very excited for this. I didn't use to play fighting games much but sf6 was the first fighting game I got really into. In my experience if you spend the time to watch a couple youtube videos on how to play a character or two and do a bit of practice in the training mode, fighting games are way more fun. It's a hard genre to just pick up but once you invest some time into it, they become so fun and addicting. From what I have heard this game is very new player friendly because the auto combos are actually pretty good.

I hope they re-release the game for the 2.0 version with all the DLC and the new characters as well. I've been consumed by SF6 but am excited to dive into strive for the 2.0 update in 2026.

this will be a great change and is certainly more consumer friendly. Does beg the question of the long term viability of a ‘console’ as it’s known in the traditional sense (closed platform). Nintendo will probably be the only remaining console maker after the ps6 generation.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Guilty gear is their most successful IP that ArcSys owns and strive sold so well.

Maybe it was a non-fighting game guilty gear project?

Part 2 is an absolute masterpiece. Incredible story of loss, grief, and revenge. Yes Joel was also a great character but his death made the story that much more impactful and playing through the emotional fallout of Joel’s death as Ellie was on another level. After all Joel has done to survive and all the people he has killed it eventually caught up with him. I don’t know how anyone could dislike the narrative tbh other than “I like Joel but he died so game bad”.

Unfortunately $80 seems to be the new price for first party games. I thought the developer showcase for outer worlds 2 was excellent. Looks like a massive improvement from the 1st game. For everyone freaking out just vote with your wallet and wait for a sale. I haven’t bought a full price game this entire generation and I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on anything.

@AdamNovice Its a free upgrade for current owners of the gears of war ultimate edition, so not a good comparison. This is a much better remaster than say TLOU2 as its bringing the game to a whole new audience (playstation).

Amazing news. Gears of war has to be one of the best shooters of all time. I hope gears of war 2 and 3 are next in line for remaster/remake.

Looking forward to picking this up on sale down the road. I burned out of Valhalla and didn't finish it but it was an enjoyable game albeit repetitive.

Killzone 2 was one of the best shooters I've ever played! I loved the weightiness of the gunplay and the story was INCREDIBLE. I hope sony passes the IP to another developer or Guerilla has another go at the franchise because its so good.

Sony doesn't have really any first party shooters (non-live service) and the Helghast have to be the most well written enemy faction ever.

I hope the 1.0 console release isn’t too far off.

Is this any different than when the first Spider-Man released on PC? I could be wrong but I think the full price game was stand alone without the DLC

The Egyptian saga could be cool if maybe Atreus was killed by one of the Egyptian gods, thus reigniting his old self and leading him again on a path for vengeance as now he has nothing to lose.

in the norse saga I found atreus gameplay to be very boring, e.g. in ragnarok when he had his own gameplay segments. Kratos is and should continue to be the face of the franchise, and while a more wise and mature kratos was an interesting take on the character in norse saga, I miss the brutish vengeful nature of the old kratos. Going back to that or retelling that side of kratos would be very interesting, and I think it's been long enough to justify redoing the greece saga.

Please go back to greece. I don't want God of war to become the next assassins creed and just cycle through different cultures. I feel like Kratos' character development has peaked with him now being the responsible mature adult rather than the vengeful rage filled character of his youth, so I don't really know what else they could do for his character if they just continued on the current path. They should either remake the original trilogy or retell the greece storyline in a new and interesting way.

As another commenter mentioned it could be for a new smash bros, but much more likely a dmc remake. But regardless how do you not put "too much stock" into this rumour the voice actor literally named the character voice he did. It could only be for a VERY short list of projects.

This game had potential if they didn't ruin it with the mobile esq monetization. Such a shame because the gameplay was fun I just could not stand the in your face microtransactions. As soon as they made the decision to gatekeep characters behind a paywall (or requiring a large amount grinding) I knew it was over. I have no doubt that if they made it a regular game with vs mode and arcade mode and sold it for $40 that it would have been very successful.

Are some of these comments from fighting game fans or MK exclusive fighting game fans? Some of the critiques that are directed toward MK1 could be applied to most fighting games on the market. Every fighting game has pricey character DLC, and if you can wait for a month you can get it usually on sale. Character DLC keeps people coming back to the game and is just a part of all fighting games period. Tekken, SF, Soul calibur, GG strive, King of fighters, heck even super smash bros has character dlc. The monetization of skins is ridiculous though.

MK1 gameplay is leaps and bounds better than MK11. I think the negativity surrounding MK1 gameplay is around kameos and percieved difficulty using them but if you spent more than 20 minutes in practice mode you would realize its not that hard and that the kameo system creates super interesting gameplay.

And the people complaining about single player content, fair enough if you didn't like the story but there is a lot of content to churn through if you want. The references to SF6 world tour mode is a bit laughable, the only interesting part of the mode is the cutscenes and the rest of it is incredibly boring, BUT the gameplay and online is amazing! Fighting games are meant to be played online and once casual MK fans realize this they will enjoy and appreciate the gameplay a lot more.

@nessisonett Its pretty insane though that Daedelic was trusted with such a massive IP so I think having semi high/normal expectations is reasonable given the huge pre-existing fan base. HOWEVER, there were so many reports in the past couple of years of Gollum being a complete dumpster fire so I will say I don't get why people are surprised that it flopped so hard. And hey to be fair to dice, that Shrek game was awesome lol. That was back in the days when video game adaptions of movies were actually pretty good.

I held off buying Cyberpunk in the black Friday PS store sale for this exact reason. Looking forward to buying this complete edition on sale in the future with all of the content. I have a large backlog to work through right now anyways so I don't mind waiting.

So incredibly excited for this one. Day 1 purchase. I really hope Santa Monica continues with god of war IP. It’s one of if not the best IP in gaming!

Horrid selection… I thought after the poor selection last month they would at least make up for it with 1 well reviewed game. At this point I would prefer solid indies (cup head, deaths door, hades) over these C tier online/sim/sports games that they have been offering lately.

This is why people need to stop buying games day 1. Big publishers, especially EA, listen to one thing, money. We as consumers need to stop putting blind faith in games and do our own research so that we are spending our money on a quality product and not getting burned. I watched multiple review videos about the BF2042 beta test which pointed out some serious flaws so I didn’t buy it. In today’s time with game journalists, youtubers, metacritic, etc… releasing deep dive reviews and review scores on the first day of release, if not before, there’s so many options to inform your purchase, I don’t think there’s much of an excuse now.

I wonder if the studio will continue with god of war after the norse saga or do something entirely different. I'm not sure what other mythology Kratos would fit in organically without coming off as Assasin's Creed-ish. If Kratos returned to greek/roman mythology with the new style of gameplay that would be AWESOME.

I don't really understand all the fuss. Sure it's disappointing for playstation fans but it has always been like this to a certain degree. If you want to play smash bros you need to buy a nintendo switch, Halo - xbox, God of war, horizon - playstation. I have had to buy an xbox to play xbox games sell it and then buy playstation to play playstation games. Theres always a way to make it work even on a tight budget. I would be happy that a company like xbox bought bethesda instead of google or amazon. Xbox offers budget series s and constant game pass deals. It probably would cost the exact same to buy a series S and load up on gamepass then buying each big bethesda game individually.
