Having never played a Virtua Fighter game before, I just completed arcade mode first try on very easy, then got my handed to me online. Combos seem to be important.
How can you not be excited by Assassins Creed and Call of Duty? They are probably the 2 biggest franchises out there at the moment. And they're not ports, but unique games.
The conference was cool, it was snappy and it had the most interesting games. The Last of Us, Assassins Creed and Beyond demos were absolutely amazing! Ninty and M$ had none of that.
Finally! Believe it not I've been waiting for this. I always look at it on the shop shelf thinking, if it only it had Move support I would get this. Not that I was never going to play it, only now I have more reason to.
I'm a bit disappointed with this particular feature. I suppose I wasn't paying attention but I popped KZ3 into my PS3 and was expecting to be able to play it on my Vita. Then I found out it only remote plays the same games as the PSP, and it's just as blurry and just as laggy. It can't even manage a decent game of Zumba.
@KALofKRYPTON It's good fun, and it's cheap (I got it for a tenner), but I know you're not a huge fan of arcade racers so I'm not sure I'd recommend it to you. Coming first depends on messing up your opponents chances, as well as, racing well yourself.
@KALofKRYPTON I agree with you about Apocalypse technically. and I'd also say that Split/Second is a lot more interesting, because in that game you actually have some control over the destruction. In Apocalypse, it just kind of happens and you get used when it happens, so it's always the same, whereas in S/S each race can be really different. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Hopefully Dirt Showdown is better than Apocalypse...
@get2sammyb Just checked some of your previous racing game reviews. You gave Motorstorm Apocalypse a 9! and you gave Split/Second a 5! What is this bizzaro land?
Do you score points for inflicting damage and knocking your opponents so they turn in the wrong direction or spin around? And does it flash up like 360!
I watched some of your "Ask James" videos yesterday. They were really good! You need to do more videos! It would really benefit NLife and Psquare. Also you need to do conversational podcasts like GiantBombcast. Check it out if you're never listened to it. I'm sure you could manage something similar.
Punishing games are fun. If you take the challenge away, then you better be very sure that the game-play stands up on it's own. Some games like Uncharted (on normal) and Assassins' Creed don't have much challenge, but they are interesting and fun enough to keep the player motivated to play. I'm not an expert on Ninja Gaiden, but I suspect, without it's difficulty that makes you try again and again, there isn't enough to it, to keep the gamer interested. Hence the failue of Ninja Gaiden 3.
I got of the COD bandwagon after the first BLOPS. That game annoyed me, with it's stupid kick the barrel levels, glitched trophies, Nuke Town and unstable online. I can't believe that game sold more than MW2, which was a much more solid and well-rounded experience IMO.
10. Little Big Planet 2 9. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 8. Killzone 3 7. God of War 3 6. Grand Theft Auto 4 5. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 4. Bayonetta 3. Metal Gear Solid 4 2. Uncharted 3 1. Uncharted 2
I admit your list is more interesting than mine, but I'm just being honest.
Uncharted, Assassins' Creed 2, Red Dead Redemption and Resident Evil 5 should also be in there somewhere. As well as quite a few others. Top 10s are pretty hard to do on PS3...
Well done James. That was an excellant review, which really challenged a lot of the common assumptions made about this game that all the other reviews I've seen have breezed over. Next time there is a fighting game released I will be sure to read your review first.
@zezhyrule I tried WKC1 and found it to be very heavy on traditional JRPG gameplay mechanics like item management and such, so I gave up. But, if you like JRPGs, the production values and story seemed to be really good, so it might be worth picking up for you.
Whereas Bayonetta took hack and slash to a whole new level, I thought Vanquish added little to the 3rd person shooter genre. Still a good quality action game mind you.
I found some of the transitions from one scene to another a little bit wierd. Like "umm how did I get here? And "Why does this guy seem to be my best friend all of a sudden?" But really I'm nitpicking. I love the Uncharted series and hope it carries on for a long time to come.
The only real downer is the issue with memory cards. One could easily walk out of a store with a Vita plus Uncharted combo, get home unpack everything and find that it won't even boot up without a memory card. That sucks, and it suprises me Sony is going down that route, especially as you get a 2 GB SD card in a 3DS as standard; much more customer friendly.
What does FULL move support mean? As opposed to say SEMI or HALF support. Is that just PR speak? Or if a game comes out which doesn't explicitly say FULL move support, it might only mean we can use it half of the time, and the rest of the time what are we supposed to do?
I came very close to buying this today. If there had of been a deal with Killzone 3 I probably would have taken the bait. Strangely enough they had KZ3 boxed in with a DS3. Crazy!
I call BS on this one. Portal + Move would be a match made in heaven. The only thing I can think of why they're not doing it is because Microsoft chucked a bag of money their way.

Re: The Walking Dead Was PSN's Top Selling Game in May
I guess this is the US chart. I don't think the Walking Dead is even out in Europe.
Re: Store Update: 13th June 2012 (Europe)
I'm happy. I've been waiting for Birds of Steel dlc and I was hoping they would do the Battle of Britain.
plus Escape Plan demo
plus Hustle Kings Vita discount.
Fat pickings for me.

Re: Reaction: Vita's Lacklustre E3 Showing Was a Huge Mistake
I disagree. Sony's showing was very solid. You're nitpicking.
Go and watch Microsoft's or Nintendo's conference, then tell me Sony's was bad. It ain't happening bro.

Wouldn't this be more suited to audio format? Or even video? James could host and hold a video conference on skype.
Re: Purchase a 3G Vita for £200 from Vodafone
What's so great about 3G Vitas. Does Near even work? Can you use it as a Sat Nav? I've heard nothing good about it.
Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 (PlayStation Network)
I'm not sure I need more Sonic in my life right now. Maybe in about 3 months for £3.99.

Re: Rumour: SEGA Has Cancelled Bayonetta Sequel
This makes no sense. Bayonetta sold really well. Maybe it has something to do with Platinum Games taking over development of Metal Gear Rising?

Re: Find Your Inner Rage with Mortal Kombat Vita Launch Trailer
I think this looks really good, and makes we want a Vita.
Re: Dawnguard Storms Skyrim Later This Year
Don't forget it will come a month later than Xbox, like COD dlc.
Re: Feature: PlayStation 3's Best Games
I'll make my own list, just for the fun of it:
10. Little Big Planet 2
9. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
8. Killzone 3
7. God of War 3
6. Grand Theft Auto 4
5. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
4. Bayonetta
3. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. Uncharted 3
1. Uncharted 2
I admit your list is more interesting than mine, but I'm just being honest.

Re: Feature: PlayStation 3's Best Games
I don't know whether to rejoice because you remembered MGS4, or cry because you overlooked Bayonetta.
Re: LittleBigPlanet 2 Scoops Up Two BAFTA Awards
Batman better than UC3?! ... Ok. Next.
Re: Ridge Racer Unbounded Delayed Indefinitely in the US
@Corbs Ridge Racer... flying down the tracks. Actually, that pretty much sums up its problem I think.

Re: Review: Battlefield 3 (PlayStation 3)
The SP in this game is a abysmal. Worse than Homefront, and that's saying something.
Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Patrick's Picks
Finally... Someone has picked MGS4!
Re: Review: God of War Collection (PlayStation 3)
"But take note: if you didn’t like the original titles on PS2, the remastered graphics will do absolutely nothing to change your mind here."
Isn't that the case for all HD remakes?
Re: Review: Enslaved: Odyssey To The West (PlayStation 3)
Great game. But be warned, you can complete this game over a weekend.
Also "Alex Garland (of 28 Days Later fame)" when he wrote "The Beach" seems odd to me.
Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Joe's Picks
A lot of these staff picks are coming from left field. That's cool, but haven't you guys played, ya know, GTA4 and MGS4?

Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Nathan's Picks
Interesting choices, but surely Infamous has been succeeded by Infamous 2.

Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Jon's Picks
Sony patched Bayonetta and solved all the problems within weeks of its release.
Re: Playable PS Vita Demo Units Drop into GameStop
I played Uncharted. It's awesome. Not sure about the rest though.
Re: Feature: Must-Have PlayStation 3 Games - Sammy's Picks
You've got great taste Sammy Barker. Personally, I prefer Bayonetta just a little over God Of War 3. But it's almost a toss up.
Re: Review: God of War III (PlayStation 3)
Great game. But sags ever so slightly in the final third. Before coming to an epic finish.
Re: Review: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PlayStation 3)
My favourite game on the PS3 and the only game I've gone to the trouble of getting a platinum trophy on. Love it!

Re: Wipeout is Coming to PlayStation Move
I think Wipeout the racer is better off sticking with the DS3. As for this Wipeout, it could be fun, I heard the xbox one was alright.

Anything but shooters. So far the most fun I've had with it is sports champions, but I still wait to be properly impressed Sony.
