@kcarnes9051 it's highly under rated. Everyone was expecting something akin to Dead Space and subsequently were disappointed.
I actually enjoyed this more than the Dead Space Remake. It's not a perfect game by any stretch, but it's a solid 8/10 for me, if only for the incredible graphics and atmosphere.
Combat takes some getting used to, but once it clicks it's actually really meaty and satisfying.
Had no interest in this before, still have zero interest now it's coming to PS5.
Played through the opening couple of hours on PC just to see if it grabbed me, happily deleted to free up space. Bland and tedious are words that come to mind. I have no patience for Bethesda jank these days.
The constant loading was also surprising and disappointing for a "next gen" title.
@Mikey856 without checking, I believe you are correct.
I think the PS5 only came with one in the box because it could not be used without it.
This redesign seems to negate the need for one. Maybe data from users indicated that most people didn't use the stand in vertical and Sony decided to save the plastic.
I was hoping for a price reduction with this new skew. A bit disappointing you end up getting less kit for the same price.
Hopefully the PS5pro will release in concert with a price drop for the slim?
I've had my PS5 vertically from day dot, never with the stand as it thought it was ugly and unnecessary. I always assumed it was optional for additional stability if needed.
The new chrome aesthetic is definitely an improvement in quality over the original stand. I'd be tempted to get one for my OG PS5phat (can we call it that now?) but seems a bit pricey IMO.
@Digit2021 I treat mine the same. Always on the dock since new and rarely get discharged all the way. I do have 4x though (two docks with 4x controllers in total) so maybe they just haven't seen as much work.
How hard is it to swap the batteries. I remember doing this to my Dual shock 4s towards the end of last gen and it was pretty easy.
@PlayStationGamer3919 I'm buying one day dot. I regularly want to use my PS5 but the TV is in use. This means I can still socialize with the family while I play PS5 games, but they can do their own thing on the TV. WinWin!
I also bought a PSVR2 day one and absolutely love it. I've spent more time in VR than on the flat screen since I bought it. IMO Sony knocked it out of the park with PSVR2.
@Grimwood PS5 spacial audio work on any headphones, even ones connected to the controller with a 3.5mm jack
The only reason you would buy expensive headphones would be to improve sound quality (clarity, bass response etc).
I bought myself a set of Momentum 4, they sound amazing connected to my PS5 using an AptX Adaptive compatible Bluetooth dongle.
The jump is sound quality over my PS Platinum headset was stark. It was expensive, the Momentum 4 and the dongle set me back roughly $800AUD, but worth every penny IMO.
@PlayStationGamer3919 The OG PS5 has proven to be ultra reliable and the liquid metal has probably been instrumental in this.
The reports that liquid metal would leak and destroy the Console are grossly exaggerated.
I have had my PS5 since launch. Pop the fan and clean the heat sink once a month. It as silent today as it was day one. Probably has close to five thousand of hours on it at this point. I'm confident it will last out the generation no worries.
It's clearly just a hacked empty OG PS5 case. The way he is hefting it around one handed like it weighs nothing speaks volumes. Try that with the OG PS5 and you would break your wrist.
Total fake. But it's a half decent attempt.
Pretty sure the final product will depart further than that from the original design. Look back at all the previous "Slim" models Sony have produced. They share the same design philosophy as the OG but always look quite unique.
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm going to be honest and say it defeated me a second time on PS5.
I got about halfway through on PS3 before giving up. Went back a few times but never got much further. I was one of the people who refused to watch any tutorials or guides, I found much of the delight of Fromsoft games was figuring out the obscure gameplay and progression mechanics.
On PS5 I only have the Man-eater, the next level boss after that (I've got no idea about either) but those ***** keep kicking my butt. And the final Boss.
I have been meaning to go back and play another build, but this working for a living nonsense takes up too much gaming time!
I was incredibly excited when they announced Demons Souls Remake as a launch game. It's second only to Killzone Shadow Fall in regards to a launch title showing a true generation leap. The sheer geometric density, near instant load times, that completely dynamic global illumination system, my god it looked good! And all at 60fps! Bluepoint were on point LoL.
@Flaming_Kaiser Indeed! I was one of the lucky few who scored a PS5 on launch day and I was absolutely floored by the Demons Souls Remake!
Being a huge fan of the PS3 original, I was in awe of what Bluepoint had achieved, especially considering it was a launch title.
The Flame Lurker boss fight in that new engine goes down as one of the most visually impressive set pieces I have ever witnessed. I died quite a few times just because I was so distracted by the spectacle on show LoL.
@PossibLeigh @PossibLeigh I had the opposite experience where I can never determine where those switches are when using my home theatre setup, but can pin point the exact location with my pulse headset.
Guess I'm just lucky enough that my head/ear shape works well with the default profile.
I would suggest you experiment with the different 3d audio profiles in the PS5 system menu.
Ignore the instructions saying choose a profile that sounds closest to "ear level" instead pick the one where the bubbling Brooks sounds the cleanest/most realistic.
After playing around with a couple of profiles I found one where the soundstage really "opened up" and suddenly did truly sound spacial to the point I could pinpoint the exact location of sounds.
I'm hoping Sony expand upon the profiles available so everyone can hopefully experience this!

Re: The Callisto Protocol Haunts in 8K with Huge PS5 Pro Patch
Just fired up Calisto Protocol for a look and good grief, it looks phenomenal!
I mean it looked great on the base PS5, but the 4k60 with Ray Tracing is gorgeous to behold.
Tried the 8k30 (down sampled to 4k on my set) and it's so insanely clean. Hard to pass up that 4k60 though.
This is how to do a Pro upgrade. Developers take note.
As an aside. The game is hugely under rated. I am now starting a fresh playthrough and bought the DLC to support the devs.

I'm super excited for this one! Cross play with my son on PC will be a right blast!
This and Pacific Drive, what a stellar start to 2024 for PlayStation.

Re: PS Portal's Battery Life Aiming to Match PS5 Controller
@Digit2021 My two launch controllers still have 4-5hrs battery life! What on earth have you done to only get an hour!

Re: PS5 Designer Mark Cerny Nerds Out About New Dolby Atmos Addition
@Olmaz Have a read through this.
It's a little outdated as it does not cover Atmos, but the rest is relevant.

Re: PS5 Designer Mark Cerny Nerds Out About New Dolby Atmos Addition
@Olmaz The Tempest Engine is Sony's custom Sound processor.
It is processing the sound for every game irrespective of what format the developers decided to use, whether spacial or not.
This new update simply means the PS5 can encode this data to the Atmos format, nothing else changes.

@thefourfoldroot1 Red Matter 2 on PSVR2 is stellar!
Re: PSVR2 Sales at 600,000 Six Weeks After Launch, Sony Confirms
Well happy PSVR2 owner here. I got one launch day and have not played on the flat screen since.
Still have a backlog of games to finish with lots of stuff launching soon.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase! Truly excellent but of kit.
Re: Battle Alongside the Autobots in Upgraded PSVR2 Port of Transformers Beyond Reality
@thefourfoldroot1 pretty sure that is a typo and it's supposed to read 90fps as PSVR2 does not support 70fps.

Re: Sounds Like PlayStation Has Grand Plans for Guerrilla's 'Ambitious' Decima Engine
@Americansamurai1 Killzone Shadow Fall was the first game to use Decima. Built from the ground up to leverage the PS4 hardware.
I'm assuming they are now updating the engine to fully leverage the PS5. As amazing as Forbidden West is, it's still built on Last Gen tech.
Very excited to see where the engine goes now it has been untethered from the limitations of PS4.
