Personally I thought the episode was brilliantly done and the changes that were made make perfect sense. In order to make the Jackson event work they needed a bigger character to lead the plot and add some jeopardy and Tommy was easily the best fit for this. The same goes with Dina accompanying Joel. Having her with him expands upon their relationship and also increases her motivations for what happens next. Tommy also not being there for his brother will also add to his story.
The death sequence, Abbie's motivations and the small amount of exposition were all very very well done and the final blow was absolutely brutal. The performances across the board were brilliant and I think Bella Ramsay deserves a stay of execution. I think she has been unfairly criticised for her performances so far. I think she captures the essence of who Ellie is extremely well and whenever called upon has nailed the more emotional and tense moments.
Thought the first episode could have covered a bit more. If pacing continues at this rate we'll barely be a third of the way through the plot by the end of the second season. Having said that, I did actually really enjoy the deviations from the game's script. The extra attention to Dina's character was really well done as was her casting. She is definitely set up to be a fan favourite and is already more interesting than her video game counter part. The therapy scene was also very well done and added some great depth. You can also see that Tommy is going to play a much more involved role than he did in the game.
Veilguard failed because it was embarrassingly self indulgent, out of touch with it's target audience and about as likable as heart disease. Making it live service would not have changed the outcome one iota. In my opinion one of the most deluded and ill advised business decisions ever made, how the execs and producers expected that game to be a success is utterly insane. So this guy's equally deluded response to the backlash is absolutely no surprise.
It would have been impossible to find an actress that looked like Abby that also had the acting range to pull off the role. There just isn't such an actress available. Even finding a male (more likely to be that size and build) would have been extremely difficult. So I can understand why they have had to think outside the box.
I always assumed they made Abby look the way they did was to make her as diametrically opposed to Ellie as possible. Considering both characters are mirror images of each other with the same motivations, drives and moral values they had to differentiate between the two in some way and given Abbie's character arc they needed to make her appear far more menacing or "evil". I always considered it very clever visual story telling and a good example of "show not tell".
Clearly they have had to go a different way when casting Abbie's part for the series and I don't think for one second that casting an actress who has a striking resemblance to the main character is a coincidence.
This should be a slam dunk (even without kojima). The tracks are already laid. Just use MGSV as a foundation and don't mess with the original story or script. If Konami can't get that right they don't deserve to be part of the industry. It's the biggest open goal in gaming.
I am a huge FF fan, the first game I ever completed was Ff7 way back in the mid 90's and I really enjoyed the remake (played it from day 1) however I never felt the need to go back to it until a few weeks ago. Again, I enjoyed it (probably more the second time) but I'm strangely not all that hyped for the next part. I don't get it, the combat was great, visuals were utterly beautiful, story was still really strong and I even enjoyed the little tweaks and added extra's. Yet, I can't put my finger on it but something is missing. There's a piece of the puzzle that just doesn't fit.
I'll still buy Rebirth on day one (I have a distinct absence of a back log these day's) but I'm not hyped for it in the way I thought I would be. Hopefully my first few hours will increase my enthusiasm.
Xbox/Microsoft are not game developers they are publishers. They haven't been for a long time and because of this they are continually behind the 8 ball.
Until they shift their focus to developing new and unique in-house ip's (rather than just buying out studios) that actually generate interest and review well, consumer confidence will always sway towards PS and Nintendo.
I still don't and will never understand why TLOU part 2 gets the hate it does. Unequivocally one of the greatest games of all time and by rights Joel actually got what he deserved. If he can be morally right for what he did then by the same logic so can Abby.
I really want a sequel. I'd love to see Ellie's story come full circle. See if she can find some sort of peace after being confronted with the consequences of her actions. There's still plenty of meat on the bone, ND get your skates on.
This is an utter embarrassment. KOTOR is one of the best IP's in gaming and the fact the original trilogy was never completed is a bad joke.
Sony needs to take this in hand and if needs be offer to co-produce a remake. The fact we keep getting remasters and remakes of games nobody wants while certain jewels of the industry are constantly overlooked is baffling. KOTOR, Dino Crisis and Onimusha to name but a few (there are many, many more). I just don't understand it.
The industry needs to stop shilling out on this repetitive and creatively devoid dross (Call of duty, assassin's creed and the endless string of GTA and dark souls rip offs) and we need to stop falling for it year after year.
While it wasn't perfect (what is?) Season 1 was a fantastic achievement. Acting, script and adaptation of the story were all spot on. Editing and pacing could have been better but it didn't affect the viewing experience in my opinion.
All nominations are well deserved and I wish them all the best.
FF VI needs a remake. Everyone always raves about how good it is but I just cant play 2D pixel style games, no matter how hard I have tried. I really do feel like I'm missing out, hence I would love to see it remade.
However I don't want it to get the same treatment as FFVII (although I did love it), I'd like to see it keep the same turn based strategic combat and over world exploration as the original (think modern day dragon quest or persona 5). This is the main reason I'm really not hyped for 16, anything after 10 feels like it's really lost its magic. The more action orientated the latest title gets the further away they are becoming from what made FF so enjoyable in the first place. 16 actually looks more like devil may cry or a souls-a-like.
Not all games need to be open world, reflect reality and "make sense". Photographic visuals and realism do not make a great game - art style, story telling and gameplay however....
Keep the soul. Just slightly update the presentation and lift the dialogue to a more modern standard. If it's as good as people say it is that's all it will need. There's plenty of (sorta) old school gamers like myself who would lap it up.
As the fabulous RuPaul once said 'you don't got to reinvent the wheel, the wheel's just fine".
Absolute masterpiece. Exactly what I was expecting from a team that worked on 'Cherbobyl'. Brilliant, thought provoking, emotional and human and so well acted.
Only slight caveat is that it's a massive diversion from the main plot. Which, when you are releasing a show 1 week at a time is a bit of a risk. If the release schedule allowed us to binge watch all or numerous episodes at a time this wouldn't be an issue, however I think they may have missed a trick by not releasing episodes 3 and 4 at the same time. As much as I enjoyed the episode I do feel like I haven't seen the plot advance, which is a little frustrating.
Otherwise, an exceptional piece of drama that well and truly blew me away and I can't wait to see the next episode.
I absolutely loved both games and I'd be really excited by the idea of a third, but I just can't see narratively where they can go with it.
The emotional heft of part two doesn't leave much room to be expanded or built upon. The natural progression of the narrative doesn't seem to go anywhere either. If ND stick to the old, they only have old ground to tread but if they go in a new direction it won't be TLOU we know and love.
The story of TLOU is of Joel and Ellie, now that story has been told, where else do you go? What else is there to add or discover about their relationship?
While I can definitely see part 3 still being a good game I just can't see it being anything less than the sum of its parts. Think Godfather 3 (but hopefully not that bad).
I honestly don't think game streaming will ever take off. It doesn't make sense as a product. If you have the required internet speed to stream a game then you can just as easily download the game (in minimal time) and play without any limitations.
Why risk the issues that come with streaming when all you have to do is wait an hour or two to no longer have that problem.
Loved the first one, one of the most original games I've played in years and I'd love to see a part 2 but I can't imagine how they'd be able to continue the story. There doesn't seem to be an obvious jumping off point for a sequel, but this is kojima so I suppose you never know.
Would be interesting if he went in a completely different direction with it. Same characters, same world but a completely different set of events for the story. Would also be a very kojima thing to do.
I've been desperate for this for years but I do worry that the combat and gameplay style will really struggle in the modern day. There's no chance this doesn't become an ARPG along the lines of Assassins Creed or Ghosts of Tsushima. Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing but I can't see how it doesn't kill the team/party dynamic from the originals.
I think the modern version of KOTOR will be something completely unrecognisable in terms of gameplay, whether that turns out to be a good thing we'll just have to wait and see.
This should be a guaranteed home run. The Last of Us is such a cinematic experience as a game that the transfer to TV series should be almost seamless.
The only possible way I can see this going wrong is if HBO strays too far from the source material and judging by these few leaked images, that's not likely to be the case.
If this lives up to its potential I can see the market for video game adaptation's begin to be taken seriously.
Choosing the production team behind 'chernobyl' was also a really smart move.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About the PS5 Pro?
Based on the spec leaks, I'm completely here for it. However if the price is extortionate i.e. north of £500 - £600, absolutely no chance.
I'm not spending that sort of money to only have the PS6 release in 3-4 years time.

Re: Push Square Readers' 20 Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2024
After what was a ridiculous 2023, this list is pretty weak in all honesty (with the exception of FF7R).
Looks like 2024 might be a bit of a lean year.
