Re: Poll: Can a Game's Brutal Difficulty Put You Off Playing It?

The problem with having only one difficulty (hard) is that it limits the ways you can enjoy the game. Yes there is a real sense of achievement in overcoming a challenge - this is good. However there are other ways to appreciate games too especially in something like ER such as atmosphere, world and monster design and the lore. Sometimes by reducing the emphasis on difficulty it'd be possible to appreciate these other elements more.

I think the key thing is they need to teach the basics of the souls formula for leveling up better within the games for total newcomers. I went into Bloodborne blind having never played a souls game. I didn't realise dying meant losing my XP. Nor did i realise you could get them back by returning to your body. Its a huge added barrier for people who are already novices and want to play the game organically. I think just improving on this one aspect would help a lot. I did like the optional dropdown tutorial area within ER though i think it just needs outline the basic progression structure better.

Re: Random: Lara Croft Tops Mario as the Most Iconic Video Game Character of All Time, Apparently

This list doesn't really surprise me. Personally I would place Lara as being way more iconic than Mario as I have no history with the guy. However it could be a definition thing as iconic has more than one meaning. Maybe iconic in the sense of being personally meaningful as opposed to being distinct as an artistic character.

The surprise for me is the inclusion of BG3 characters. It really hasn't been long enough.

I think people are very confused these days on how to communicate without offending anyone.

When someone says that a woman looks to have masculine traits it is not necessarily a negative comment nor should it be. It could be a positive comment or neutral comment just as easily depending on the subjective opinion of observer. In exactly the same way to call a man feminine is historically considered negative but it doesn't need to be nor should it be. It should just as easily be neutral or positive depending on the tastes of the observer.
