Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Squanch

@naruball Yeah, that’s a good comparison. Funny you say that because when Microsoft introduced payed online during the 360 era and PS3 people were saying they play online for free; I remember saying don’t plan on continuing to play for free. When companies see that 💰 they tend to jump on those trends as quickly as possible, especially, when people excuse and defend it. Nintendo is no exception.

Sometimes the writing is on the wall, but some people just choose to ignore if it doesn’t directly affect them at the time.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Squanch

This particular situation is unacceptable and I believe Sony should compensate consumers not just apologize. Hopefully Sony thinks about their future projects maybe suffering from the same problems and change how they view future games containing always online elements, especially for single-player.

People saying that others will switch consoles or are thinking about switching themselves are in for a rude awaking, because this is an industry wide problem. Every publisher and platform holder have talked, done or are pushing for GaaS. Corporate profits are now being prioritized over creativity and vision which is just sad.

Gamers need to drop the tribalism and start calling out companies for these practices every time we encounter them.
GaaS is garbage and unacceptable!

Re: Gran Turismo 7's New Approach to Microtransactions Isn't Going Down Well

Squanch

More websites are coming out with info on GT7 micro-transactions and…oof, it’s not sounding good. It’s clearly price gouging at its worst. It’s pretty sad that people had to find out on release day before they could cancel pre-orders. Sony deserves all the s**t they get on this one, because they purposely stepped in it. Jim Ryan really needs to go before he destroys that company.

Re: PS5, PS4 Live Service Game Babylon's Fall Doesn't Look Good

Squanch

Well, Drakengard series was janky and never an eye stunner but developed a cult following, so anything is possible for Babylon’s Fall, I guess. Of course, Drakengard has rich lore shared in the same universe as Neir making it much more interesting. Also, Drakengard 3 might be one of the best games ever made! (Half joking)

If Babylon’s Fall is still around in 5 years it’ll be interesting to see what the perception of the game is compared to now. Maybe it’ll gain that cult status.

Re: Mini Review: Shadow Warrior 3 (PS4) - A Very 2014 Shooter

Squanch

I'll probably buy this despite the mixed reviews. I really enjoyed the first two and the humor for me was big reason I enjoyed them. I can definitely see how the humor could turnoff some people, though. The length of the game doesn't bother me and is a none issue. Personally, I get tired of games being 60-100hrs long.

Re: Gran Turismo 7's New Approach to Microtransactions Isn't Going Down Well

Squanch

Well, you did condescendingly ask if I was willfully ignorant, so I don’t think you were trying to be overly nice yourself. And, context is important when it comes to peoples opinions and conversations , so I don’t put it aside because things can be taken and used out of context.
Yeah. Reading it back it didn’t come off the way I wanted to. But, I legit, did think the willfully ignorant thing was funny because the same thing would happen to me. That’s why I just avoid using the word ignorant on the net. Oh, well. Have a good one.

Re: Gran Turismo 7's New Approach to Microtransactions Isn't Going Down Well

Squanch

@Cherip-the-Ripper Did you read awp69 full post or just the word GamePass? He was referring to the industry as a whole having these types of transactions. He wasn’t arguing about GamePass and Microsoft being bad.
Apfelschteiner was responding to one of the people I was saying were going off topic.

So, no! I’m not willfully ignorant. By the way, if your going to ask someone if they’re “willfully ignorant” you should probably spell it right. Just saying. Nice edit on “wilfuly”. 😂 Now I’m way off topic…good day to you.

Re: Gran Turismo 7's New Approach to Microtransactions Isn't Going Down Well

Squanch

I’ve never understood the fuss about in-game purchases as long as everything is obtainable through gameplay. I understand the disgust for pay-to-win in multiplayer and in-game purchases locked behind a paywall with no other way to obtain them, but these types of micro-transactions just aren’t a big deal in my opinion.

Re: Highly Rated JRPG Trails from Zero Confirms September Release Date on PS4

Squanch

@nessisonett Nice! I was going to buy the JP PC version and download the patch from The Geofront but then they announced PS4 version not long after and figured I would wait. These games probably wouldn't be coming west if it wasn't for the awesome folks at The Geofront, so I greatly appreciate their dedication, time and hard work.

Re: Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 Coming to PS5 with Visual Enhancements, Free Upgrade Confirmed

Squanch

@Nintendo4Sonic I own and played them on PS1 and GameCube. Just haven’t gotten around to playing these particular remakes. Heck! I beat both RE1 and RE2 with just the knife back in the day. I love RE, just have to much to play these days. I will however be putting them ahead of everything else on the backlog list once this upgrade drops. I am pretty excited see William Birkin’s wonderful face with modern graphics.

Re: NIS America Has a Cool New Logo

Squanch

Looks just like the developer Gust label. It’s Simple and tasteful. Not going to match the rest of my NIS America games in my collection, but I still like it.

Re: Crunchyroll Absorbing All Funimation Content for Ultimate Anime Library

Squanch

@ElectricLogan Absolutely agree with you. It would make to much sense to have launched this when they had the ability to let people transfer accounts over to Crunchyroll. I mean they're going to give you the ability to transfer your queue and owned digital library at a later date, so why not just wait to launch this then.

Re: Crunchyroll Absorbing All Funimation Content for Ultimate Anime Library

Squanch

I get premium tier Funimation for $5.99 as long as I didn’t let my sub expire because I was a current subscriber before the price increase. Making longtime subscription holders switch is a good way to screw us out of our current sub price. Oh, but thanks for the 60 days for free in exchange for $4 more a month. What a deal!😑

Some of the things Sony does just pisses me off!

Re: Japan's PS Now Update for March 2022 Is JRPG Heaven

Squanch

Some of the best games I've ever played. Trails and Y's series are just unforgettable treasures. The plot twist at the end of Trails of Cold Steel really setup excitement for the sequel!
I do however think you'd have a heck of a time finishing these before they left the service, though. I'm pretty sure I put like 120-140hrs in to the first Cold Steel game alone. These of course could be staying on the service for long term.

Re: Playing Elden Ring's PS4 Version on PS5 Might Be Your Best Bet for a Stable Framerate

Squanch

@naruball Edited - I get your point about relativity but every score should reflect imperfection if flawed. If a product does have a flaw, it can be compared more favorably to other products but should not be considered perfect. If one person thinks the issues make the game an 80/100 and another 95/100 then fine. Once again, it should not be reviewed as perfect. I agree a 10/10 exists to be used when a product is overall great and free of technical issues, which has not yet happened.

Obviously, games reviews are mostly subjective to the person reviewing them: fun, graphics, enjoyment of battle systems, etc. However the one thing in a video game that should not be subjective is technical issues. Again, not saying it should be any particular score deduction. But all reviewers should at the very least acknowledge these issues via final score given in some degree. If it has minor tech issues maybe .5 - 1 point deduction and if it has major issues then a more severe point deduction. A perfect score doesn't ever have to be given.

We will probably never agree on this topic, but I did enjoy the conversation. Thanks for the civil discourse. Seems to be rare on the interwebs these days. Usually these end with some form of name calling. 😂

Re: Playing Elden Ring's PS4 Version on PS5 Might Be Your Best Bet for a Stable Framerate

Squanch

@themightyant
Actually, 10/10 is exactly what that is suppose mean. Perfect.

No, we shouldn’t. I’m 41 and and own a library of over a thousand games and have never played a game that should be considered perfect. Are there some that have come close. Absolutely. But, there has always been technical issues in every title I’ve played. When a game is fun and flawless in technical execution will be the day a game deserves a perfect score.

Re: Playing Elden Ring's PS4 Version on PS5 Might Be Your Best Bet for a Stable Framerate

Squanch

@naruball
What you are saying is the very problem. Reviews should not be a completely subjective process where reviewers get to pick and choose when technical issues affect scores. There has to be some objective standards to the processes that applies to all products being reviewed. Some thing like technical issues during gameplay should not be subjective in any reviewers process no matter how fun a game is. If you dock points for one game and not the next one for the same issues, that’s being biased. Period.

Let’s take pasta marinara as an example: I know weird example.
If I were to say Prague tastes pretty good, but not great, but I think the label on the jar is the funniest label I’ve ever seen. I give Prague 10/10 for it’s great label that I feel makes up for its slightly lacking taste. That just sounds freaking ridiculous. That’s kinda of the equivalent of what you’re saying, or maybe I’m just hungry. lol!

Re: Sony Goes Game Pass By Putting Shadow Warrior 3 on PS Now at Launch

Squanch

Nice to see it coming to PS Now for those interested, but as with the previous two games, I’ll just buy it on release to add to my collection. Plus, I hate time constraints when it comes to hobbies I use to chillax. Having to worry about playing and finishing a game before it leaves a service is just no good.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Horizon Forbidden West?

Squanch

@TheRedComet
I usually pre-order steelbook collections, but correct me if I'm wrong, didn't all of the steelbook versions not come with a disc? I'm pretty sure that's why I didn't order it. I'd be very disappointed if it did come with the disc and I missed out.

Re: ANNO: Mutationem Brings Serious Cyberpunk Style to PS5, PS4 in March

Squanch

Nice to see some of these China Hero Project games finally getting released. Immortal Legacy, F.I.S.T. and now ANNO. Quite few more releases to go with the most notable title Lost Soul Aside.
I've really been looking forward to like...90% of the games that were announced in the China Hero Project.
ANNO is going to get a purchase from me on March 17th!

Re: Monark (PS5) - Tedious JRPG Grinds to a Halt

Squanch

@greengecko007 That’s exactly right. NIppon Ichi Software America published this game. They also publish Disgaea, The Caligula Effect 1&2, Poison Control. NIS America tend to bring these lesser known, smaller budget niche JRPG/ARPG that sometimes have dungeon crawler grinding gameplay elements. I mean, they’ve been publishing games like this since PS3; one example is the PS3 game Legasista. Idea Factory is another publisher that releases games like these with Mary Skelter 1-3 and Dearhendre;Quest 1&2 . If people played any of those games you kind of know what to expect and what you’re gonna get as far grinding gameplay goes.

Re: Monark (PS5) - Tedious JRPG Grinds to a Halt

Squanch

So far Push Square has given it the lowest score on Metacritic. I've been seeing 7 & 8's from most reviewers.

I enjoyed the demo and have the game on pre-order. I felt the games upgrade system and combat system was unique enough to deserve my money. I feel most RPG's are a grind, so don't really mind that aspect. Plus, I love to support smaller, niche game developers over big game developers/publishers that don't necessarily need the support at launch.

Personally, I just think games like Monark are just an acquired taste. If you’ve played and not enjoyed other games from Nippon Ichi Software you probably won’t enjoy this.

Re: Microsoft Says Call of Duty and Activision Games Will Keep Releasing on PlayStation Beyond Current Deals

Squanch

Microsoft getting in front of FTC regulators is all this is. We'll see what actually happens once the deal is allowed to be completed.

"as we start the process of seeking regulatory approval in capitals around the world for our acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This regulatory process begins while many governments are also moving forward with new laws to promote competition"

I don't play any Activision/Blizzard games so it doesn't really affect me, but I do hope I'm wrong and Microsoft keeps these games on all systems for the people that do enjoy them.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Sony's Buyout of Bungie?

Squanch

Personally, I don’t care for any of these large acquisitions. I think this Microsoft pushing it’s all digital agenda on a market with the use of big tech money.

I don’t feel Microsoft’s vision has changed since the announcement of the Xbox One. They realized their vision wasn’t popular and if people had choices that they would go else where. So, Microsoft establishes a digital service of perceived value to get gaming media and budget gamers to put pressure on their competitors to move the market the way they want, but realize that’s still not enough.
Microsoft than decides to invest big tech money from other sectors of the company into the market to secure established IP as exclusive content to lock behind their ecosystem, knowing the competitors will have no choice but to adapt and try to do the same with lesser liquid assets. Soon consoles will be gone, along with physical media and we’ll just have a PlayStation and Xbox app with Xbox, now having the biggest presence in the market. BAM! All digital, online market exactly the way they wanted it back when they released the Xbox One.

Re: PS5 Console Exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo Confirmed for March 2022

Squanch

@TheArt

I have to disagree. Being petty about timed exclusives is not the reason MS bought Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard; Game Pass is. They need content people can get no where else and are forced to buy in to Xbox ecosystem if they want to continue playing the games they love from those publishers.

On topic, I was interested in this game, but I’m not going to give a company money that is taking my hobby in a direction, I don’t like. Hopefully, this game is a sales flop. It looks like Sony hopes so too.

Re: PS Plus Reaches Record Number of Subscribers on PS5, PS4

Squanch

@TheCollector316

100% agree. I’ve had my subscription since the first month it was available on PS3 and have never let it lapse. Hell, I still go back and download PS3 games to play that I missed out on buying that are now unreasonably priced or hard to find used.

Re: Geoff Keighley Hints at More Gaming Acquisitions in 2022

Squanch

This is just getting depressing. I've read multiple claims that the hidden enemies Amazon, Google and Facebook are what we have to fear. I mean...really! Last I checked it was Microsoft, Tencent and Sony trying to consolidate the gaming industry. I think evidence shows these companies are the enemy of gaming consumers.
