My backlog of games is getting out of control. Not a bad problem to have really . I haven't played a lot of Lego Marvel, so if I get time, that's what I'll be playing.
Good review. I think you were fair with the strengths and weaknesses of the game and also acknowledged the effort that was put into the game. I haven't played very much of the game, I can see what you mean about walking into a room and not given a chance to hide, and it soon becomes a shoot out.
I think based on the amount of effort that was put into the game, there is probably a bit of a disappointment that some of the mechanics of the game didn't work out as it was intended. Certainly doesn't make the game unplayable (and I don't think you were saying that) just disappointed.
I've been playing Counterspy. Really fun game. Totally exceeded my expectations. I'll probably play NCAA football too, totally hyped about the season starting!
@get2sammyb I don't miss high school so much. I do miss college. First week of every semester was usually slow, which meant gaming, gaming, gaming . I still remember play a ton of Goldeneye in college. That was a blast.
When I get a chance (rather IF I get a chance) to game I'll be playing some WWE 2k14, maybe some Defiance, and picked up Madden 13 (used and cheap). Haven't played a Madden game in a while, so I'll give it a go.
@odd69 wasn't there a discount if you downloaded early? At least is thought there was (that's why I downloaded early).
Didn't get any game playing in this weekend. Had a wedding to attend and some reading I needed to catch up on. Hopefully get to play some games this week . Been hooked on Defiance.
@JohnKarnes I have been playing Defiance too. Saturday morning, the servers kept crashing after 5 minutes of playing, so I switched to Diablo 3 instead.
A few things that come to my mind when I read this article. First, I enjoy playing indie games, I thoroughly enjoyed Journey, and RCR brought me back to my childhood (especially with all the references ). Perhaps it's because I grew up in an era where the graphics...well...stunk! While I am in awe of graphics now a days, the graphics aren't what pull me into a game, it's the game itself, and if it's a good game, I'll play it, doesn't matter if it's an indie game or a big named studio.
The second thought that came to mind was a program I heard on NPR, which talked about the state of video games. What I found interesting is that big studios put in a lot of time and money to make games that take 40+ hours to play, when the "average" gamer only plays about 10 hours of the game, then goes online somewhere to view the ending of the game. Because of this, a lot of studios are looking to make shorter games.
Now I say "average" gamer, but I'm not implying anyone here is an "average" gamer, I think the people on here are extraordinary gamers . But I do think that a lot of people my age, (37 if anyone is wondering) that grew up playing Atari, NES, SNES, PSone, PS2, PC, etc...the gamers of my time now have other responsibilities, and thus, don't have time to play the long epic games that big studios produce.
@odd69 Cool, I've been thinking about picking it up myself, but this coming tuesday, I'll be spending a lot of time playing Marvel Legos...so I think FF online will have to wait for a while .
I just picked up Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, each only $10 at Walmart! Not that I'm endorsing Walmart, but I have to say, that was a great deal. I'll be playing ME 2 this weekend.
@Madd_Hatter401 Yeah I agree...it would have especially sucked if I just showed past me the game, but didn't let me play it...my childhood would have been ruined.
I would like 2K sports to make another NFL game too, the last NFL game they were allowed to make was really awesome for it's time; I enjoyed watching sports center each week and seeing highlights and scores from around the league.
I remember purchasing the PSOne. I was a senior in Highschool. I bought the system because I thought the games looked better than other systems at the time. I remember it being somewhat expensive, but at the time, I didn't really have any responsibilities, so saving for the system wasn't that difficult.
A few things I will always remember about the system. First was playing Resident Evil. I remember turning off all the lights, and literally screaming, when one of the zombies that was lying on the ground reached up and grabbed my character as I walked by. That was awesome!
Second memory that comes to mind was playing Madden. I remember my dad watching me play the game, and there was James Brown giving an update of the upcoming games, and he said "It's a weekday, how are you watching football?"
Third memory is playing hours and hours of Final Fantasy 7, only to have my then girlfriend, play my saved game and beating the game while I was away. I was not happy.
@XCWarrior Actually, I believe Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning are only $19.99 and you don't have to be a PS Plus member to get these discounts. I know that's more that what you currently have on your account, but those are good prices for those games!
I downloaded this game when it first came out. Being a history major in college, I was excited about this game. I played it for about 2 hours, and haven't played it since. I don't want to spend money on this game, and grinding got a bit boring. It was entertaining at first, but I couldn't justify spending a lot of time grinding when I have a lot of other games that I need to complete.
@DirectAim Other games that I really liked on PS3, The Cave, Skyrim, D&D Chronicles of Mystara, Batman AA and AC, Double Dragon Neon, Uncharted 3, Tomb Raider, just to name a few of the games that I have enjoyed.
Funny part, this game is the reason I picked up a PS3 (I picked it up last year). I really really loved this game when I saw my brother in law play it on the PC. I have played this game quite a bit, but also found other gems on the console that I love. Best purchase I've made.
@JamieO Hey...I will be around this weekend if you are up for a game. Saturday or Sunday works for me.
I don't use Twitter. I think you're 7 hours ahead of me, so if this weekend works, let me know what time you might play, and I can see if that works for me too.
Glad for the discussion of the game. I find myself gravitating back to this game whenever I have free time .
Great review! Well written and spot on! I am really loving this game.
I've gone through both games several times, both as solo and online play. I am impressed on how smooth the online play is. What I also love about this game, it's a great game for people that may only have a few hours to play games in a day, like me .
@JamieO Yes I'm enjoying the game a lot! Last night I played Shadow over Mystara, then jumped into Tower of Doom online.
I first did a search for a game and didn't find any games either in progress or starting in the lobby, so I created my own game. I got through about the first level and then others joined in. I was worried at first that maybe nobody was playing online, but was pleased that others joined in the middle of the game. We completed Towers of Doom. The co-op game was very smooth, as you mentioned. My only grip is that the other players skipped through all the dialog, and since was my first time going through the game, I would have liked to have read some of that dialog. But that's ok, I'll be playing through the game again and again.
I agree that the replay value of this game is very high. I also find that the trophies are achievable! In some games, I look at what you need to do to achieve certain trophies and wonder how am I going to do that? In this game, I feel all the trophies are obtainable and this encourages me to play the game over and over to get those trophies.
Thanks again for the review. If you are playing online, look me up, rogueleader76.

@Azikira the art work is really neat. I picked up the game just for that reason.

Silly question here. But since Fez is a cross buy, even if I only have a PS3, will it still be available for free on PS+?

I just bought KOA, it was $20, so I thought it was a good deal at that price (still think it's a good deal, just wish I would have waited, oh well).
I almost bought SotC, glad I didn't.

@odd69 Wow! Mass Effect 3 special edition for $12!! What was the reason for the insane deal??
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 14
Is GTA V out in stores now? I must have missed that memo...
I'm kidding! Playing some Kingdoms of Amalur, also got ICO via PS+, so I'll have to check that out too this weekend.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara
