I have the ! Icon for new items in inventory still, when there's no new items. And the switch character isn't greyed out when it's unavailable, so you still have to hold the button and wait to then be told it's unavailable 👀
Looks good though, and RT is upped in balanced mode
@JB_Whiting does it remain toggleable or are you locked in to it now? Did you try out all 3 modes? I'm interested to know if changing HDR settings will fix anything for you, as they have that nits setting in the menu which uses what the sun looks like as a reference
@JB_Whiting I tried all 3, I liked the RT specular reflections in quality and had no issue with any judder at all. I will be moving up to Balanced when those effects are included with PSSR, however. If all goes smoothly.
Image quality and graphics mean more to me than frames in console gaming usually, and I can still happily play games in 60, 40 or 30, or unlocked 80/90/120 fps without the transistion seeming too weird. But I will always make sure they look and feel right to me beforehand game by game basis, as some games are better at some things than others. Usually I'd play AC in 60 since Valhalla, but this time the 30 was fine with the added effects. Just before this I was playing KCD2 in unlocked between 55and85fps with VRR 🤷♂️
Yep, an OLED Ex panel. (I'm saying panel slightly toungue in cheek, because people do like to talk about panels, those who are interested in these things, anyway 😛)
@wildcat_kickz yeah, quality has RT Specular which is pretty lifelike water reflections, and balanced left that part out. But RT Specular will be added to Balanced with PSSR helping keep the performance smooth with the extras, and I assume hopefully even better image quality with the improved upscaler.
I'm one of the very few playing on PS5 Pro Quality mode and fully content with the 30fps and stunning graphics. But if I can keep those tasty added RT effects, reflections and hair and all that image quality stuff and still bump it up to a higher frame rate with VRR or whatver then that will be just right. All of those QoL updates too, very welcome.
I have some ideas for some cool Assassin's Creed Shadows assassinations, parkour, combos and general mayhem. I just need to get my head fully around the controls after KCD2. I keep pressing down to check gear in the menu and accidentally whistling at enemies, for example 🙈
Time for the new dawn of great physics and weighty gameplay! But we must keep pushing detail in games that benefit from truly immersive worlds. I'd say that open worlds don't need to get bigger though, they could be scaled back to become more dense. And some trickery with inside/outside spaces to keep things moving as we get faster and faster read speeds to deal with once impossible transitions that could make that possible.
@RoomWithaMoose yeah, it very much depends on the games that will be played on it. I think a lot of people will get buyers remorse if they pull the trigger early and then realise they don't play the types of games now available. And if they do play those type of games, then there is many ways to play those games already.
If you are fully part of the in-house Nintendo game ecosystem it will also probably be worth waiting for some more games to be available (of that type) Whereas something like upgrading to a PS5 from PS4, you upgrade and the third party games you are already interested in are coming out on the platform endlessly anyway so the lack of first party doesn't matter as much because of the sheer volume of choice available.
But if you love Mario and Animal Crossing, is Fromsoft going to make a replacement for that while you wait.... No they are not 😅 but those games you already play won't suddenly become crap on the Switch 1.
It makes it very interesting to see how much the casual gamer goes for it right away, beyond the impulse buys (Praise to them for calling it Switch 2 to help with that), and how many will wait and think about whether they really need it to play party games and casual platformers.
No doubt enthusiasts will be all over it, regardless.
Parents. If your kids want some of these older games and a switch 2 for Christmas, you'd be better of just getting a second hand PS5 and a massive bundle of games. Or a new PS5 and a massive bundle of second hand games. Or a new PS5 and a massive bundle of new games on sale.
If the Switch is becoming a proper console console it is going to be much cheaper to go Sony. Which is crazy to say, but it looks to be the reality.
I'm not the target audience. I didn't watch the stream. I won't watch the stream. I will find out about it eventually. But I like to upgrade for the type of games I play, and Switch 2 would still be a downgrade console compared to a PS5 Pro regardless.
I might get baited into trying a super upgraded new Legend of Zelda game whenever they make a "next gen" one of those. But I'd end up regretting bothering, most likely 😅
Will be loading up AC Shadows for the first time tonight, I think.
But it's really good to see a game like Split Fiction get a huge following. Not really the type of thing I play, but from what I've heard it's a good one and full of charm.
I'll come from leftfield. A cure would prevent new infection, yes, but it still wouldn't prevent you from getting your neck ripped out by those already infected. Or killed as a result of the war to control that cure that will break out between the many factions that would still want power.
People won't ever give up power just because a solution to a universal problem is found. C*nts won't suddenly become hippies. And infected won't suddenly not want to rip you to shreds.
"Every odd job and bounty will provide the coin she needs for her journey."
I really hope that this is actually as written. I want the in game economy to be integral to the struggle. It's not often games get it right. Taking on a contract to make sure you can survive and thrive, rather than the kind of gamey upgrade path in GoT which was based on opening pots and collecting scraps of material mindlessly as you sprint over pick-ups and bamboo plants and then holding x in a menu to simply level up an item.
Limiting wealth and giving a real in-game reason to take on a quest really helps games with a functional world. Rather than just hoovering up quests simply because they are there and it's a game, you feel more a part of the journey.
@lazarus11 the soundtrack to Mafia 3 is next level good. I thought I didn't really like 60's music until I played that game (it's all Beatles this and tralalaalalala that, or so I thought) it genuinely changed my outlook on what I thought I knew about the whole decade and the evolution of music with real, genuine soul. And the backdrop to the game is also fantastic. It's a shame they messed up segments of the game with the districts gameplay, without that faff I think they would have had a top tier open-world crime game better than some GTA's
@Korgon yeah, that'd be cool to see. I mentioned in the forum it seems like the most Ubisoft game Ubisoft never made from the trailers. And at the moment it is like they are staying quiet and relying on people mentioning it is from the producer of GTA a thousand times in the hope people think it's something it's not and market it for them.
I'd hope it is a fresh new IP with creative flare and interesting gameplay. But in a really strange way I'm also getting similar vibes to The Day Before in the way it is being shown and marketed 😬 and we don't want to see something like that happen on such a big scale.
Definitely need to see a lot more before deciding if it's one to be excited about.
@Korgon definitely. I read some comments on the YouTube and people are saying it looks amazing and they can't wait to play it. But I'm thinking... play what? We don't even really know what the gameplay is other than walking while spraying bullets wildly at cars and... street racing as AI takes over the city? 😅
It baffles me as to what it is, as you know Sammy 😉
The bonus content is listed as "horde mode mission" and "extra missions and challenges Q3 2025" "extra missions and challenges Q4 2025" "extra missions and challenges Q1 2026"
Which makes it feel like a live-service game masquerading as a single-player story-driven thriller. As a story driven game may have DLC set in a new area with the same in-universe problem to solve as the main game or, a maybe prequel showing events that led to where the world is now or a new event stemming from the events of the final chapter of the game. But it is "new missions and challenges" which sounds like the game itself is made up of contained missions and challenges like some kind of extraction game 🤷♂️
@Cornpop76 because subscriptions suck and aren't actually viable long term, as everyone finishes playing everything they want to play at some point so the demand for cheaper and quicker to make games takes over to meet a demand, but no one actually wants those anyway so they eventually leave.
See: Netflix and their TV and Movie content. It's basically become a cheap reality tv service with some poorly made leased IPs to supplement it, rather than any new original ideas.
This is what we don't want gaming to become, and yet it has already begun 😬
We at McDonald's have decided to move properties such as The Big Mac, The Happy Meal, The Mcflurry and the Chicken McNugget to our new holding, leaving the former entity with a cold fillet o' fish that got some Fanta spilled on it.
That's what it kind of seems like. Maybe it is more nuanced. But since the rapid stock decline (who remembers Skull & Bones somehow being made and even declared AAAA) we have known something has been up with the G's trying to make money from their own messes, and at times they were seemingly happy to force the stock to plummet with some absolutely mad decisions.
So they formed a subsidiary of a company with $5billion in assets, but the new company is valued at $4Billion so we know it has the lions share of the assets. It feels like it is mind-blowing that the subsidiary is already worth 4 times as much as the parent company, doesn't it? 😅
" 🚨 A Disastrous Misstep – Avoid This Game at All Costs 🚨 "
Followed by a bunch of nonsense copy/pasted in multiple people's "reviews"
It's like they don't even realise how dumb it is. Like any sane person that is undecided would read 4 reviews copy pasted next to each other and think, "oh yes, I shall take their word on the matter because, most of all, I value the opinions of those that don't have their own f***ing brains" 🙃
Every new trailer seemed to have clear visual downgrades, so it's hard to trust a static tech demo being anything like what is possible, especially on console. We shall see.
It's one I hope nails it, but I'm still a little uncertain whether it's a passion project or a trend chaser with a scope beyond what can actually be realised.
It will be the most interesting review of the generation. And I hope PushSquare get a lot of time with it, and get to make a lot of content about it when they get the codes.
@LogicStrikesAgain yeah, I'm agreeing with your sentiment. That is all I can glean from the info so far. They can't be interested in actually increasing share any more, which for a business in the tech industry seems weird. We will see how they approach it, I guess 😅
They are definitely not going to be able to please all of their current users, let alone get new ones, unless it is the most spectacular release of a "console" ever, and change the game forever while they are at it. Which seems unlikely as of now. So it seems like they are just aiming for a small portion of the PC market (why wouldn't people just upgrade their PC in that situation, though) and a small portion of the handheld market, whilst potentially alienating those who stuck with them, or joined because of the S being cheap.
@LogicStrikesAgain it may just be that, as they are mostly a publisher now, their next "console" is just to keep the smaller numbers who still want an Xbox happy in future, whilst they let everyone else move on to the other platforms over time.
If it is a gaming enthusiast's device it is going to hurt their user base that are currently on Series S, unless they are also releasing a scaled down version at a series S price point. The hardcore Xbox gamer would be annoyed if they packed it in entirely, but might enjoy a premium limited product. So it will be interesting to see what specs they do offer. Because I doubt they can just muscle in on PC gaming.
To me, it has to be both incredibly powerful and incredibly cheap compared to PC to actually increase their share in any way, as steam users already have PC's that they can upgrade. So all I can think of is that they are resigned to lose more of the share and will just offer this Xbox PC thing to please some very specific users and an Xbox handheld to please some other very specific users as everyone else waves goodbye and plays their games elsewhere 🤷♂️
@TimelessJubilee but, if you want a real answer it is thus:
Sometimes things aren't worth words because the person in question is ignoring the words of others. They clearly didn't read what the article said, and they clearly didn't read any responses to them pointing this out. They simply kept bringing up the same copy paste, review-bomb style argument about Steam "numbers" and "players" when told that this was about something else entirely (Digital Sales on consoles) just to make it seem like they were right in some never ending argument about absolutely nothing of any consequence.
@ShogunRok are we thinking it will allow for an unlocked performance pro mode ala SIE first party games, and then some kind of balanced mode that looks even better at a locked 40, and then potentially an even more detailed quality mode?
If they can get the full suite of RT at 60 and improve image quality on top of that it must be heralded as the biggest third party success of the pro so far.
Yet to play it, so not sure exactly where they will tweak things to get more from it, but I've seen that it indeed looks stunning already. All this on top of it having some really nice physics based elements that I feel people have been missing in games for a long time
Still enjoying taking Henry, and his new hairstyle, around the Kingdom of Bohemia; single-handedly driving the events of history, whilst seemingly in a permanent state of drunkeness!
@ShogunRok what would you say is the best part of the gameplay itself? Has anything much changed in those terms?
I'm someone who really enjoyed Origins as it was a new direction, loved Odyssey for the most part (easy to ignore the silly sh** and repetitive nature as its fairly rewarding comfort gaming) and really liked Valhalla and thought Mirage was pretty decent too, but at the end of the day, the gameplay is probably starting to become a bit stale and I'm hoping for something a bit more.
Great to hear they improved the writing/story in this one, however! I always suspected this would be a great tale to tell when it was announced with the characters and setting. I'm not sure it will be quite as good as I hope, but I'll be picking it up anyway based on track record of enjoying the previous experiences on the whole, and sometimes we need a bit of familiarity, even if we do want it to push itself further.
Would you say the story moved you at all, or was it simply just a better overall arc?

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?
Bought it but busy playing KCD2. I'm tempted to see how it looks on the Pro, but I must resist for now.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows (PS5) - Striking Open World RPG Is a Real Cut Above

@Dragoon1994 @Oram77
I very much doubt Eclipse is this year. I feel like the last news we got was it was in development hell and the lead writer left the studio 🫤
I'd love to see some positive news about it, but my expectations are heavily on the "if it ever comes out" side of things.
Re: The Day Before Dev Reportedly Sues Website for Calling Game a 'Scam'
It was a scam.
They are con artists.
They are con artists.
Everything they do is a scam.
Re: After Gobbling Two Publishers, Now Xbox Has Been Sniffing Around Ubisoft's IP
Weirdly, I think SIE could competently revive WatchDogs and Sony could also get a streamer involved for a live action series and/or anime.
If Ubi is done with it, I'd like to see someone have a good go, at least.

Delta is hardly hiding the fact that it's going to be the 4th game in a series...

Definitely $72,000 worth of damages there! Take them down. Make them suffer. Make them PAY!
