Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Has a Metal Gear Solid V-Style Recruitment System

@Jaz007
Granted I've only played the first two so far so my input could very well be outdated, but it seems to me like the speartip that you wield is pretty obviously a piece of Eden. And given the time period of the game's setting, I'm guessing that the predecessors (who were depicted as Roman gods among other pantheons if I remember right) are going to play a more integral role this time around.

That's about all the potential connection I can see.

You're reading a whoooole lot more into my actions than you really should be. And inferring things out the whazoo. From my perspective, up to a point the conversation was pretty calm and level, despite the unnecessary and antagonistic jab from you here and there. I didn't get annoyed until you decided you couldn't be bothered to read my comment, yet still wanted to take potshots. So, I responded in kind.

And then you went ballistic.

If I was really trying to "defend mi'lady Kat's honor" like you're trying to imply, then it wouldn't be taking me a whole day or so to reply, now would it? Yes, it stings that the servers to one of my most favorite franchises closed down way too prematurely, and I and others are perhaps a bit raw due to that. But then you're the one trying your hardest to rub salt into that wound, so remind me again who's priorities need checking?

What, you want a cookie for that? I mean, you're the one that wanted people to "fight you" about your opinion, yet can't be bothered to read the other side's points...and then still want to take potshots at the game regardless. That's wanting your cake and eating it too.

I came into this thinking that we were discussing/debating in good faith, but apparently I was wrong in that regard. Fitting though that you're a fan of Undertale then.

@Johnnycide
1. My point being that advertisement is important if you want to sell something to the masses. Horizon got tons and tons of advertisement, and Gravity Rush 2 got barely little to practically none at all. I don't know why you brought the rest of that up. Of course, it was a rather congested period of great game releases, as even Horizon got completely pushed aside once Breath of the Wild released.

2. From what I've seen of Horizon, Alloy comes across as an incredibly bland and generic video game protagonist, with perhaps a bit of angst thrown in? I've seen none of the charisma that Nathan Drake extrudes.

Kat is a bit of a klutz, and though she does have some tiny moments of melancholy she's mostly super optimistic and cheerful, which is a nice change of pace compared to most angsty video game protagonists nowadays. She's endearing, and extrudes personality, especially in the sequel. I mean, you have a multitude of gestures you can perform that random NPCs actually react to (like waving back to a wave, or acting startled if you do the scare gesture behind them). The sequel has a tone of awesome attention to detail like that.

3. So you didn't really give the game a chance. Gotcha.

4. I watched the votes for Alloy vs Kat on the last day for a bit. It was sitting at Alloy having a 20 vote lead. Came back to the page like a half hour later and suddenly alloy was up like 50 votes, and after spending a bit of time refreshing the page noticed that Alloy was getting a steady new vote a minute. That reeks to me of someone employing a bot to inflate Alloy's numbers. So Kat wasn't the only one with some vote rigging. And from my understanding of @ShogunRok's comment, comment about interesting stats, Kat still got 3rd despite those duplicate account (rigged) votes. As in, even not counting those votes she still got 3rd.

@Johnnycide I'd say that the bombing was more due to the lack of advertising on behest of Sony. I mean, Gravity Rush 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn came out only a month apart, yet HZD got sooo much more advertisement compared to the barely any that GR2 got. Which, speaking of...if you find Kat to somehow be bland, then I can only imagine what you think of Alloy, as she comes across as incredibly bland to me, personally speaking. But I digress. About what part of the game did you get to when you did play it, out of curiosity?

And I think the fact that Kat did get to the 3rd spot in this tournament is indicative that the franchise has more than just a small fanbase.

Re: Poll: Do You Want More PS4 Games to Take Advantage of Gyro Aiming?

MysticMask

For a controller like a DS4, I like it when it compliments regular aiming with the right control stick (i.e. fine-tuning your aiming), though probably only in games where aiming doesn't happen ALL the time (so in other words no FPS, unless it only happens when you look down the barrel/scope), as if gyro is constantly active that can definitely get annoying.

For controllers that have two separate haves though (like the Wii's Wiimote/Nunchuck, the Switch's separated Joy-Cons, or the PS3's Nav/Move controller combo), then I absolutely adore motion control aiming as the primary way to aim, as it doesn't feel near as awkward to do when it's just your right hand aiming.

Re: Feature: Push Square's Ultimate PlayStation Character Has Been Decided

MysticMask

@AFCC Yeah, I definitely think they're starting to get overconfident again, like they were at the end of the PS2/start of the PS3 and like Microsoft was at the end of the 360/start of the One. There's also the whole Fortnite "Oh, you logged onto the PS4 with your account? We're now going to hold it hostage to where you can ONLY use it with a PS4!" fiasco.

Re: Feature: Push Square's Ultimate PlayStation Character Has Been Decided

MysticMask

@AFCC It isn't so much that we "let" the servers shut down as it is that our pleas fell on Sony's deaf ears. It's still absolutely ridiculous to me that Sony shut down the servers to one of their first party titles only a year and a half after it's release, especially when there are servers from PS3 era games still going strong. Makes me kinda wonder just what exactly it is I'm paying for with PlayStation Plus...

Re: Sony Removes $5 Requirement from PlayStation Store

MysticMask

@RogerRoger I've actually heard that the reasoning behind things costing 9.99 instead of an even 10 was that it was used to keep employees honest back in the old days - the employee would be forced to open up the cash register (which would automatically create a record on the cash register's ribbon/paper) to give that .01 back as change. Otherwise the employee could take the even change of a 10, give the customer their item...and then pocketing that 10 instead of ringing it through the register (I guess this was before people really cared about getting receipts...then again, there's still a lot of people that don't care about it even now).

Re: Gravity Rush 2's Servers Unceremoniously Shut Down After 18 Months

MysticMask

@CK97 There were three different components to it:

Challenges, where you could challenge other people in challenge missions, wherein you'd submit your score or time (depending on the challenge) and others would compete against it (complete with the ghosts of the challengers doing what they did when they did the challenge).

You could take and submit a photo for a rating. When you're out and about in the game's world you might stumble across photos from others (marked by a ghost standing or floating), see it, and give it basically a like or dislike.

And finally the treasure hunts - arguably the most interesting. About every 12 hours, you'd get 4 (or 8 if you've progressed to a certain point in the game) treasure chest hints. Activate one, and your warped to a random part of the world and you're tasked with trying to find the treasure chest, with only a photo of it from another player to go by. This mode was a lot of fun, as finding those chest can be rather tricky as they could be anywhere (including walls and ceilings) on a floating island. And once you've found it, you can take a pic of it yourself (while trying to get any landmarks to help track it in frame too) and send it off to be used by another player.

Almost all of the above rewarded you with Dusty Tokens in some way. Winning challenges netted you a good amount (with a tiny bit for tying and even less for losing). Rating a photo gives you a tiny amount, but getting a nice (liked) rating gives you a lot more. Submitting a treasure hint gives you a tiny amount, but having someone successfully use your hint gives you a lot. Actually opening the chest doesn't give you tokens, but instead a reward of some kind (most of which were unique to chests).

...I suppose all of this should have been written in past tense, now. Alas...

Re: Just Cause 4 Wants to Be the Best Open World Sandbox Ever

MysticMask

I'm all kinds of excited for it! I guess I was lucky as I never ran into any of the game-breaking frame drops that I hear so much about (and this is me playing it on the standard PS4), up until the mech DLC dropped. I mean, it might have dropped when things got really busy on-screen (explosions and debris flying everywhere) it chugged, but since I grew up on the NES, SNES, and N64 I'm very much use to that and so didn't really notice it.

When the mech DLC dropped though...yeah. The frame rate would drop often and randomly, enough that it did start to get annoying. I wonder what it was about that DLC that caused it...

Anywho, my biggest complaint with Just Cause 3 was the lack of variety in the environment and civilized areas, so I'm extremely happy to know that the devs are specifically addressing that. Plus, Rico is back in black! Didn't care too much for his blue color scheme in 3...black looks much better on him.

Re: Nathan Drake's Regenerative Health Was Actually His 'Luck Running Out'

MysticMask

That's really good to know. The regenerating health happening when there's no in-universe justification for it is one of my biggest pet-peeves in games, enough that it's stopped me from playing said games (the mechanic just breaks all immersion for me and yanks me out of it).

Sounds like I need to give this series a shot sometime...
