Just Cause 4, like Dying Light 2, got lost in the E3 2018 shuffle somewhat. When there are a lot of big new games unveiled, some inevitably fall through the cracks, so here’s a timely reminder that Avalanche Studios – the busiest AAA studio in Sweden, it seems – is busy beavering away on a new adventure for Rico Rodriguez.
While it may be fighting for the limelight, the developer has high ambitions for this sequel, as game director Francesco Antolini told Game Reactor: “We want to make the best open world sandbox ever. We want to be the sandbox that gives the biggest possibility for expression in an open world. We wanted to push our physics to the boundary, and we wanted to get back to a feeling of variety and discovery that I feel we lost a little bit with Just Cause 3.”
Antolini added that a big part of the Just Cause experience, for fans, is the pure experimentation that the sandbox allows. However, while it’s important that the physics can be fiddled with, it’s equally imperative that everyone else is able to just play. “We know very well that not all gamers want to fiddle with the sandbox just for the sake of it, and so the truth is if you want to you can completely disregard this aspect of the game,” he concluded.
The title’s currently scheduled to deploy right at the end of the busy holiday release season, but publisher Square Enix will be hoping that the game can make a big enough explosion to capture the enthusiasm of potential players. Good luck.
That Title reminds me of Harry Kane tomorrow.
Just scores 4.
They didn’t even bother to fix all issues of the previous game for ps4. Gonna wait till this is available for 8.99$.
I don't know that this fell through the cracks - it was shown twice at E3. I don't think though that many were particularly impressed with 3 after it was too 'ambitious' for the console hardware to handle well. The physics destruction is obviously too much for the CPU to handle at 30fps consistently along with all the explosions etc too.
I know that 'Just Cause' is a 'cult' game for some and for those, they certainly wouldn't of let the announcement of a new entry slip by them but for the majority, the announcement was met with more 'meh' - especially considering the other games that were shown. For me the highlight of Square Enix was Tomb Raider but the fact it was so brief and didn't show the Avengers were bigger news than Just Cause again (after being shown at MS's too). MS also had games like Cyberpunk, Dying Light 2, Sekiro, DMC5, Division 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Metro Exodus, Tomb Raider etc as well as its exclusives and we all know the games Sony showed. With all those and the issues with JC3, is it any wonder that JC4 was met with little more than 'Meh'.
It didn't slip through the cracks as such, just didn't do enough to raise itself into the conversation, to enter into the discussion of E3 and upcoming releases to be excited for etc.
HhhheeeeeeeeeeHahahahahahahahahahahah Ahahahahahaha ahahahahahaha hahahaha.....
You serious?
@themcnoisy Hey, wasn’t someone looking for a game made in Sweden the other day? Didn’t realize these games came from the Swedish.
Actually, to be frank, JC4 looked pretty interesting at E3. And this from me who has never been even curious enough to play any of the others.
The series is really fun, but come on now, that's bold. Off-topic, it's really cool how Sweden have many gaming studios.
I loved JC3....But I paid like $10 for it so it was definitely worth that price. I'll probably pick this up in a sale.
Well, there could be missions that actually let you use all the good stuff. Just Cause 3 was entertaining to say the least but the storyline was just boring. All the main and side missions were kind of dull and the base and village destroying stuff was the interesting part. Until it wasn't anymore. Sure you can fly a plane through a massive satellite dish and enjoy watching the explosion but that is just not enough when there is no substance to it. Still, good luck, make it work
Ill wait untill i see how it runs did not even took the effort to fix the other game. It was a joke already that they released in such a state... 🤬🤬🤬😑
@Th3solution haha that was me! I realised that when I read the article.
Getting rid of those loading screens would be a start. It's why I've never started JC3.
Just Cause 3 was actually pretty fun when it worked. If Avalanche can solve the technical issues and deliver a better performing game, this should be a fun ride. It being the best open world sandbox is an admirable goal, but we'll see.
As long as it doesn't run like complete trash on PS4 they have a chance, I suppose.
A good start for a JC4 would be to have on consoles the option to disable camera motion blur. Also allow the ammo carry limit to be more than previous JC games. Lots more. Like x10 the amount.
Omg. More fun with photo editing. 😂 Anyone else see Waldo?
It won't because it brings nothing new to the table the 3rd one was a buggy mess at launch (especially PC) the 3rd looked awful compared to 2 and apart from the wing suit that's all it was in difference. 4 will be the same but theyll add co op I bet ya
@Nakatomi_Uk Why doesn't it being anything new? And I'm reading so many comments about 3's awful performance and while I can't speak for how it ran on consoles it ran great on my PC for the 79 hours I got out of it (still play it some). And it looks great to me.. anyways with the settings I put it at. I'm not saying it's the world's best game but you guys are being harsher than it probably deserves.
@Quintumply Ran great for me on PC but to be fair, the fact you NEEDED 16gb of ram to run it well was a bit excessive. But I agree. Ironing out issues could really bring a lot for them.
@Brandonr757 It is a horribly bad optimised game i read you need 16 GB to make it run great yeah its just bad.
Just Cause 1 & 2 were amazing games, but 3 was an absolute mess !!! They really need to sort the bugs and playability out for anyone to take them serious again.
@ShogunRok and vanilla Xbox one and the S. and the switch if it comes out for that. Pc will be the best place to play this game. Xbox x, then ps4pro. I’m pro yo! Lol
I'm all kinds of excited for it! I guess I was lucky as I never ran into any of the game-breaking frame drops that I hear so much about (and this is me playing it on the standard PS4), up until the mech DLC dropped. I mean, it might have dropped when things got really busy on-screen (explosions and debris flying everywhere) it chugged, but since I grew up on the NES, SNES, and N64 I'm very much use to that and so didn't really notice it.
When the mech DLC dropped though...yeah. The frame rate would drop often and randomly, enough that it did start to get annoying. I wonder what it was about that DLC that caused it...
Anywho, my biggest complaint with Just Cause 3 was the lack of variety in the environment and civilized areas, so I'm extremely happy to know that the devs are specifically addressing that. Plus, Rico is back in black! Didn't care too much for his blue color scheme in 3...black looks much better on him.
Not gonna happen. This series is just okay. Certainly not a candidate for the best in the genre.
"...and we wanted to get back to a feeling of variety and discovery that I feel we lost a little bit with Just Cause 3.”
I certainly hope so. As much as I liked JC2, JC3 was so dull and repetitive.
If they want Just Cause 4 to be the best open world sandbox ever then I wish them luck in that endeavor. A good start would be if they finally realize that a sandbox doesn't become good just because it's big. When I played Just Cause 2 the novelty of being able to blow up so much stuff in such a big world carried me through. In part three I just couldn't get over the emptiness and how little there actually was to do, when you get right down to it.
At 15fps
