Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

JakeThijs

Some have sold at that price previously, albeit mainly deluxe types. I suspect even if price went up generally there would still be some, as there are now who charge less.

Personally it means I'd be a lot more selective, less day 1 purchases and more wait for sales, and probably less digital where can, given physical from some retailers are cheaper.

Re: Talking Point: Is Forza Horizon 5's PS5 Price Point Too High?

JakeThijs

Not going to lie I played it on Xbox, done everything.. but I'm going to gladly do it again on playstation so I can play it with my PS friends
The price is the same as Xbox, they can hardly sell it cheaper on ps without also reducing Xbox price too, which obviously is going to cut into their profit margins. At the end of the day they are a commercial entity who wants to make as much money as possible, whether someone wants to pay that price though or wait for a sale is up to them, same as with any other game.

Re: Would You Pay $100 for GTA 6?

JakeThijs

Absolutely not. GTAV was and continues to be one of the biggest selling games of all time. If the next one is anything like the current one then online won't be available at launch so you're initially only paying for the base game story, when Online does come it'll have so many micro-transactions it'll be another cash cow for them and the will make a ton of money. An initial price that high would just be corporate greed.

Re: Concord 'Didn't Bring Unique Value' to Players, Says Marvel Rivals Director

JakeThijs

I dont think it's that Concord didn't offer unique value, it did. However it was an unknown IP with characters people know little about behind a €40 price wall. Had it been f2p it would've attracted more players who would get to know the characters, however that would of course then have meant they would need to add an in-game store / micro-transactions to make money.

The price point also meant players, particularly those who can't afford multiple games at once had a choice.. 'Do I by Concord or do I buy another game,' such as Black Myth which was released the same month.

Re: Rumour: Mortal Kombat 1's Future DLC Cancelled After Poor Sales of Khaos Reigns

JakeThijs

Well if they charged the DLC at a reasonable price rather than the cost of the full game they probably would've sold more.

WB seem to have it in their heads that games as a service are the way forward (despite the huge profits made from Hogwarts Legacy and the poor sales of Suicide Squad and MK) and then completely miss the mark on how much their in game micro transactions and DLC is worth. It's almost as if they do no market research whatsoever.

Re: Microsoft Is Investigating Why Devs Are Prioritising PS5 Over Xbox

JakeThijs

I should imagine a number of reasons:
If you want an exclusive deal PS5 has a bigger global market share, so unless you want to aim solely for NA, makes more sense to go on PS5. If you only want to sell to Japan then you'd want to aim for Switch over Xbix.

Harder to develop for Xbox, (tools apparently) but also you need to make a game that runs on both Series X and S.... Whereas for Switch and PS5 you only need to make it run for one console (and going forward optionally enhance it for pro)

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

JakeThijs

At £700 you'd think they'd at least include the vertical stand, which costs them peanuts to make.

Either way my interest disappeared at the price point and lack of disk drive. Yes most games are digital now, but many players still have physical games and aren't going to buy them twice, especially after forking out the best part of a grand for a console.

Re: Sony Accused of Signing Secret PS5 Console Exclusivity Agreement with Black Myth: Wukong

JakeThijs

Like you say it makes no sense. Not only are Sony generally quite upfront about exclusives and market the hell out of them but there is no reason to hide a deal. Given the biggest market for the game is the Chinese audience and that Xbox have a the smallest share of that market why would they need to hide any exclusivity deal.

Also wouldn't be the first game delayed because the Devs need to make the game work on both the Series X and S

Re: Things Are Getting Worse for Floundering PS5, PC FPS Concord

JakeThijs

Problem is there are a lot of similar games on the market, which are well established and aren't locked behind an initial paywall.

If you're going to charge for a game like this (rather than start free and make money through micro transactions) it needs to do several things:
a. Stand out enough that people want to buy it. eg a reason why people should spend £40 on this rather game than play Apex Legends or Fortnite etc.
b. Stand out enough that people will choose it over another paid for game. eg if someone can only afford to buy one game this month why should they choose Concorde and not something like Star Wars Outlaws or Black Myth?

I was holding off for reviews because I wasn't a fan in the Beta, a shame though.

Re: Interest in Destiny 2 Reportedly at an All-Time Low

JakeThijs

That doesn't surprise me, I loved destiny but had to take a break from it for health reasons, I came back, half the content had been vaulted and was super hard to get back into it, had no idea what was going on, so gave up... I should imagine the same thing makes it pretty inaccessible to new players.
