Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Walks Back Critical Comments on VR

Ironwright

The guy works in the industry, and right now the industry isn't being driven by VR, its being driven by 3D video fidelity & access speeds. While there are a TON of games and software out for VR the market penetration for it has been quite slim, and often even where it has been adopted it has not become a daily use device. It just isn't better than using a non VR screen yet.

He made a flippant off the cuff remark that should have been better phrased, but he's not wrong. Yes, there are people who want it, but VR isn't a market driver yet.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for December 2019?

Ironwright

If THIS is what they are offering for December can you imagine what games were NOT selected? I mean, they must have a number of games to choose from at any one time right? So either they had a bunch of games that were all crap and these were the BEST of that crap, OR they couldn't find any other games and this was all they could come up with. Either way, its a crap selection.

Re: Rumour: ANTHEM Reportedly Not Dead as BioWare Plans Major Overhauls

"Rumour: ANTHEM Reportedly Not Dead as BioWare Plans Major Overhauls"

or..

"Rumour: ANTHEM reportedly to one day, someday, in the future, be brought back from the dead if BioWare's planned major overhauls work better than their first attempt at creating the game."

The game IS dead at the moment - its like A Weekend At Bernie's where they won't let the body just be dead and buried. They dress it up to look alive, take turns making its limbs move, but IT IS DEAD.

Explained another way: IT IS A DEAD PARROT. It is not pining for the fjords. ANTHEM is dead. Telling me you have grand plans to reinvigorate this dead parrot doesn't change the fact that it is a dead parrot. BIOWARE'S reputation is pretty much dead too. I paid $60 for a dead parrot? I will never buy a parrot from you again. I will also tell everyone I know that BIOWARE sold me a dead parrot.

If all of this talk of dead parrots seems strange then may I please introduce you to a small group of moderately successful and amusing lads called Monty Python. Search for Dead Parrot Sketch. Watch it but substitute the word ANTHEM for every time they say Parrot.

Re: Shenmue III's Review Embargo Lifts Days After the Release Date

Ironwright

Maybe in the beginning I would have been interested but at this point game developers and publishers in general have released such a huge mountain of broken software that the moment I see or hear about a game that the developers believe so little in that they can't even handle an honest pre-release review.

This Shenmue III crap though - they can't even handle an honest review AFTER THE GAME IS SCHEDULED TO BE RELEASED.

If your game can't handle honest reviews then you do not get my money anymore.

Re: Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Sales Have Been 'Very Disappointing', Says Ubisoft

Ironwright

Its nice to see gamers beginning to pay more attention to these pathetic cash grabs.

1. Make the game fun first and foremost - don't tell me that you left a crappy feature (bug) in the game for 'realism.' You're being lazy and everyone knows it. If you can't be bothered to fix your game then I won't be bothered to play it.

2. Don't charge extra money for things that the game should have shipped with. Like maps of collectibles - charging extra for things you ripped out of the game is a naked cash grab and an instant red flag that the game is not worth the money.

3. If you still insist on doing real money transactions for in game content that content better be visual only and have zero effect on the game or you are going to lose sales. Gamers are becoming sick and tired of being nickle and dime'd to death.

4. If you are asked a question and feel the need to reply in 'PR Speak' then we are going to call it out for the lie it is. Answer honestly for a change and stop acting like you are Dr. Evil. If you MUST resort to PR speak take a moment to think of why - chances are its because there is something wrong with the game.

Re: BioWare-Style RPG GreedFall's Launch Trailer Is Pretty Great

Ironwright

Sorry but when someone says Bioware-style game it doesn't conjure positive mental imagery (for me at least) anymore. A company doesn't get to make awful games but then have me think of it fondly just because the game company used to be good. 'Bioware-style game' means something a bit different to many people nowadays, especially after Anthem.

Re: Destiny 2 Adds Battle Pass-Like Progression System with Shadowkeep

Ironwright

I started up again yesterday after not playing since before the forsaken season pass content released.

I have THREE PAGES of quests, some of which I have never heard of. My equipment is all crap now. Almost every drop I get is an upgrade of some kind. I had forgotten how good the gun-play feels - and SOUNDS.

Going back to Destiny 2 is overwhelming at first. There are so many things to do that its easy to do NOTHING while trying to figure out something to do.

I did all of my upkeep crap, emptied out my inventory, worked out what weapons I have, and then headed out to try the weekly quest mission solo. After 30 minutes of relearning what I was doing going through the area I was presented with a door that would not open. It was bugged. This is my FIRST BIT OF GAMEPLAY since I quit, and it ended with me facing a run-breaking bug.

So its a bit different than you remember, but not THAT DIFFERENT.

Re: EA Thinks ANTHEM Will Sell 6 Million Copies in Six Weeks

Ironwright

I played Anthem and the Division 2 betas. The key takeaway for me from both was that Anthem didn't seem to care if you knew what was going on. TD2 gave clear explanations on what did what whereas Anthem seemed like they just threw it out there and said "figure it out yourself."

In Anthem I played right up until I left the fort. Suddenly I'm in a team of four on a launchpad. Everyone but me flew off. I'm left standing there unable to get my suit to do anything. Check settings, no button map I could see. Mash all the buttons, guy jumps around a bit but no flight. Finally I got frustrated and just deleted the damned thing. The game felt frustrating and indifferent.

TD2 went a different way. Tri-panel pop ups explain game systems concisely and using multiple steps. You knew where you were going, what you were trying to do, and what buttons to press to do that. When you left the main base of operations you already knew how to move, you were NOT thrown in to a group of other players, and there was plenty to do on your way to where you were going. The game seemed like it cared about your time investment in the game. The game felt fun.

Between multiple past concussions, post concussion disorder, and PTSD video gaming can occasionally be quite a challenge for me. I am not alone, and there are many men and women like me. I understand that Anthem and The Division 2 are completely different games. I am not comparing the games to each other so much as how they familiarize new players with in-game systems.

I ended up playing TD2 for HOURS. I couldn't wait to delete Anthem. I never even got to play Anthem really, but I'm not about to 'play' a game that frustrates me so much I can't even figure out how to follow the other three people forced upon me.

ANTHEM COULD HAVE DONE BETTER - but they decided not to.
