@HonestHick You highlight a big issue. Single player games cannot get people off their live service dopamine drips. I heard an interesting stat recently that said more people are playing old games than ever.
@HonestHick while there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of games on PS5 (I can’t even keep up) I would love a first party banger sometime soon. Seems like Ghost of Yotei in less than a year and then Intergalactic I predict in 2026. Wolverine in 2027?
@LikelySatan 🤣 just saw this. In the U.S., corporations are basically super citizens and receive special treatment far beyond an individual person. This is both hilarious and sad.
@Northern_munkey Can’t wait for the arguments in the comments sections. Interestingly Sony just said they are looking into alternate ways to sell consoles… they are not looking to make cheaper consoles… the discourse will not be improving 🤣
It’s obvious people hate crunch, and for good reason, but I love crunch at my job. It’s so exciting to pull those hours with your team and execute at a high level.
@Steeleye50 Well I’m pretty sure she famously denied people pain killers because she thought pain brought them closer to God… so she might deserve some light roasting 🤣. But I completely agree even if you yourself are a positive influence it’s pretty much drowned in a sea of negativity
@Rich33 It doesn’t even apply in this scenario. Free speech doesn’t really exist in a private setting and a corporation can 100% deny service based on what a customer says.
@JokerBoy322 Free speech applies to the government and not to private corporations. They absolutely can ban entire IP addresses. It’s a common misconception but everyone should know the first amendment (most amendments really) only applies to government speech. Corporations have the right to refuse or ban anyone for any reason. In fact, I have drafted many terms of service with that very right and courts have no issue ruling in favor of the corporation.
@DennisReynolds I liked outlaws and got the platinum. However, I hadn’t played a Ubisoft game in years and have never played an assassin’s creed game for more than 20 mins so it didn’t feel super old to me. However, I think Outlaws was a perfect storm type of failure. Disney’s continual stream of mediocre to poor Star Wars content, Ubisoft’s current reputation, and a cultural shift in the largest market (U.S.) all worked together against it. Too bad to I thought it was a solid 7.5 - 8//10.
@nessisonett I agree. If nothing else companies can come down hard and waste peoples time/money and make examples of them. Shoot even if a case gets tossed the discovery process will expose online posters names and have an effect on their lives. Good way to deter future behavior?
@Steeleye50 I have been off social media for ten years and it has not negatively affected my social or professional life in the slightest. You are gonna love the freedom of not being beholden to it.
@JokerBoy322 First, they likely can legally deny an American’s services and right to purchase and use their products, especially for a digital license. The ability to do so would be difficult, but there may be a way to ban an entire IP address and they could do so without running afoul of any law I am aware of. Second, why wouldn’t you want them to be able to enforce this? I don’t begrudge any company from taking drastic measures. Fanbases absolutely suck across the board right now.
RDR2 was incredible and I sank a few hundred hours into it. I would be much more interested in GTAVI if the trailer didn't make it appear that social media usage was going to be such a large part of the game. That just seems annoying. Love the Bonnie and Clyde style story though so I hope I am wrong. Far from a day one buy until reviews tell me how much I have to participate in fake social media.
@Apollo2212 You would have to ignore the history of large tech companies since the 90s to not be worried about the trajectory of AI. Anytime they are given an inch they take a mile. A site like pushsquare should be worried as well. Clever AI use can dismantle SEO and is already bogging down the internet. I don’t think AI is the end of times, but its potential to widen the wealth divide and spread misinformation should have most people worried.
@KoopaTheGamer well said. I’m a civil defense attorney and my perspective is that in theses situations, in most civil lawsuits, everyone did something wrong. I might just be jaded 🤣. Also as to your comment about the $35 million, he doesn’t need the money true, which makes me think this is personal. If this goes to trial and doesn’t settle and he did do the things Sony fired him for then that info will be in everyone’s hands. Makes me think he possibly has a case a la Chris Avellone.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare very good question. And breach on contract is one of I believe nine causes of action being brought. His employment contract likely has a clause voiding vestment on termination. Most of his claims, even his breach of contract claim, turns on a wrongful termination COA. So the case precedent of where he filed is more important than the contract. Yes this will discuss contracts, but it’s going to really focus on bungles employment practices. Any contractual interpretation will be in light of the states employment law.
EDIT: based on what I see so far he is claiming, essentially Sony did not fire him for sexual harassment, they fired him to not pay him so they could breach the contract. An interesting tactic, but again this mostly will not focus on the contract itself. Discovery will focus on the internal investigation etc.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Oh got it. So you are commenting on a contract you have not read to tell him not to comment on contract law if he isn’t a lawyer. Was this filed in Washington or California? Because that might matter much more than the terms in the contract in an employment law case, which this will be. Not a contract law case.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare where are you seeing the contract? All I see in the tweet is an equity report. Definitely just emailed my paralegal to pull the complaint this morning though. Should be an interesting read.
@DennisReynolds well they did sell 3 million copies in the first several weeks so I wouldn’t say barely anyone played it. If they hadn’t had such a ridiculous budget it would have been a sales success. I actually really enjoyed the game though so I wanted to add a little positivity to the conversation 🤣
@HashtagTrowel 80s had great strong female leads too. Especially in SciFi. Ripley in aliens, Princess Leia in Star Wars, Sarah Connor in T2 (technically 1991 I think).
I might be in the minority but I live a crafted experience more than anything. Playing an rpg that has ai generated npc dialog sounds awful and means other people will potentially get a much better experience than I will. Generally when I play a game I want to see the artistic vision of the studio come to life. AI at this point barely earns the I in its name. It’s mostly just a word predictor that works to make something somewhat useful due to the amount of data processed behind it and an extremely clever algorithm. At the same time I have reviewed many contracts that start ups created with LMMs and they are all hot garbage. AI is important new technology but it’s also likely the next bubble to burst in the coming decade.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare 🤷‍♂️ an ad is an ad. This is an ad. I enjoyed it because it reminds me of many great moments I had on PS. I know a lot of people have been upset with Sony lately but gaming is a hobby to me and I don’t care to be upset over a hobby. There has been no shortage of games I have enjoyed over the past four years and I doubt that will change. Just got the plat for Killer Frequency today and while it had faults, I really appreciated what the game tried to do. Have about ten games lined up to play. If anything the “first party drought” has really helped me tackle my backlog and try new things!
Also, a lot of games popular with “hardcore” PS fans were not big sellers. Sad they don’t get sequels/new entries but it makes sense.
@BeerMonster to be fair if you have spent that much on PS you probably have whatever they would theoretically give away. It’s just a celebration. I wouldn’t take it too seriously.
On another note, I liked the video, great reminder of a lot of good games I played over the years. I remember being blown away by the scale of Shadow of the Colossus when it launched. Being so invested in The Last of Us in 2013 I played for ten house straight on a weekend. Driving myself crazy trying to beat Bloodbourne. Shoot I remember the playing FFVII for the first time and thinking graphics had peaked and would never surpass the pre rendered backgrounds. Playing Death Stranding late at night while my wife was asleep helped me through the loss of my son. Helldivers II got an old group of friends back together and even got my brother to hop online consistently to game.
Sony is a heartless corporation of course, they all are, but PS has been at least a small part of my life since elementary school and I have had a great time on all their systems.
@Vovander to me the uniqueness of the universe already makes it stand out but this is a fair point. Remedy is a special studio but they don’t seem to connect with the wider audience with sales.
The entire embracer strategy seems asinine from the outside. Just waiting for them to unveil their genius plan behind their insane pace of acquisitions.
Predictable. If memory serves, PS4 Pro was also easy to get at launch and only became scarce months later. Curious if the 5 Pro follows the same trajectory.
@UltimateOtaku91 Played for about two hours it’s really enjoyable so far. The environments are awesome I wish all the LEGO games were made completely from LEGO
@NEStalgia I can’t wait for final fantasy XVII so we can argue for several months about whether it’s a final fantasy game. Always a super productive discussion.
Real shame. I have played Firewatch at least four times and I had the theme on my ps4 since the game released. Was really looking forward to Campo Santo’s next game. It was probably “better” for the devs and founders to be bought out but I can’t help but feel we lost out on a truly unique studio when it happened.
