Days gone was an excellent game. Possibly it could have been improved with another 6 months in the oven. However if Sony aren't going to use the IP why not sell it to another Dev to create a days gone 2.
A lack of physical media will just prompt a lot of people to get a good pc with a lot of storage then never pay for another game ever. Because there are other methods of getting games y'see.
Dropping physical media will be a double edged sword for the publishers.
As for me , if it's not physical media it's likely not for me. I'll just got back to my vast collection ( I've been collecting heavily since the Sega Master System) and enjoy everything that has gone before.
Digital has its place. As a cheap, cheap backup to a physical disc to save wear and tear on the disc reader of your console. Other than that, digital simply has no place and is being sold to you, the fool, by snake oil salesmen. Digital media is genuinely fools gold. If you're unfamiliar with that term look up an explanation in your browser.
It's just a shame a lot of the world is too blinkered in its opinions to see that fact.
I'm not so sure about this "fact". It seems awfully convenient for any console maker or game publisher to state this as fact when IN FACT they make more money on their games by controlling the only market place they have Influence over. The digital only market.
A physical game is subject to market deviation ( discounts, the second hand market, trade ins and so forth) meaning they can't control that market as it is subject to too many variables. They do not want that.
I would warn all of you about encouraging a digital only future as once it's here you will lose ALL CHOICE as the physical market will be gone and you'll be at the mercy of the digital only price Setters. You'll miss the choice when it's gone.
Now don't get me wrong, digital does have a place. You can buy a game physically at whatever price and then when the digital version drops to something more reasonable, usually 10% of retail is it's true worth in my opinion, you could buy that.. Then you have a backup whilst still having a physical edition to actually show what you originally spent your money on.
Be warned, digital ONLY is fools gold. Always choose physical.
I can see why companies charge this much. Staff wages, land rent, electricity/gas/water usually a few overpaid managers, insurances etc. I'm surprised most games aren't more expensive. Ironically a guaranteed hit like the last horizon game could easily afford to come in at half its retail price and still make huge profits whereas a smaller studio can easily justify the higher price.
What no company appears to take into consideration is that games are a luxury item and certainly not a necessity to anyone. Those "anyone's" are you and I working long hours for barely passably pay in many cases ( certainly not all). Plus we likely have lives outside of gaming. So yeah. Games are too expensive.
So is food, gas/electric/water, petrol , car tax, income tax, Insurances etc etc. I wonder if the game companies consider that when they're high pricing games for their customers ?
Just give him back metal gear and let him make metal gear six as the follow up to 5.
If not, get him to make a new spy espionage series and make it as wonderful and MG5. Huge open world, freedom to do what you want....but this time let the player decide how to handle the badguys instead of making your game character grow horns and get covered in blood when you kill too many.
My last playthru of mg5 has my character looking like he had just stepped out of a bathtub of blood and glued goat horns to his head !
Ubisofts biggest mistake is making many games have a "must be online" and/or "must be multiplayer".
I'd love to buy ghost recon breakpoint, but as the game is online only I'll never get it . Consider that it sells for approx £6. And I'll still not buy it.
We need single player wholly offline games. If not, I won't buy them. Already dumped MMOs, division, destiny and the like ETC.
As for watchdogs legion it was fun but I only played as one character for most of the game. When the Aiden Pearce option arrived I wanted to play it again but I spent so long playing first time round I'll probably never go back.
Get it right ubi...Valhalla was dull, watchdogs legion was almost dull, breakpoint slated to hell...come on guys. You want some gameplay ideas, send the game to me during development, I'll tell you what's wrong. For now....I can't see myself buying anymore from my fave ubisoft franchises, those being watchdogs and assassin's creed. Plus what the hell are you thinking making games online only....
Odyssey is a truly great game, but now I've completed it with a 96 hour play through, I've moved on an I'm simply not interested in the DLC. If companies want people to play the content, give it ALL with the content from day one.
Odyssey is truly marvellous though, and I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't tried it, especially over the pile of tripe red dead 2 is.
Destiny, in fact no game, should be built around microtransactions or DLC.
Release a game. That's it, the buyer gets the full package. Microtransactions should only ever be cosmetic.
With destiny, you get locked out of content once a DLC is released. You also get locked out of content because you have to group up with people to play it. Every Mmo does this. That's always left a bad impression with me.
So, Destiny monetise everything, makes its very awkward to get top gear equipment, and what you might be able to get takes months to grind out. Then Activision wonder why the game isn't doing as good as they hoped, and yet everyone else can clearly see why it's under performing.
I'm always left gob smacked at both the arrogance and stupidity of companies that refuse to listen to their customers.

No physical release, no sale.
I'll stick with the original PS1 game.

A fantabulous game, easily the best AC since Black Flag.
