@jrt87 Sure, I wish Apple would target me with their top of the line computers.. But they don't and I can't afford them. However I don't feel the need crying over that. I just get the MacBook Air instead and it's a pretty good computer
@Scrubchub is it too expensive though? Like really? Try to find a gaming PC for the same price and see if the gaming performance compares.. Especially with raytracing.. The gaming performance you get for the money when buying the PS5 pro is actually a pretty compelling deal (If you have the money). YES it's a lot of money, but it's also a lot of machine.
Now you can cry about it all you want, but given the technical specifications I think the price is kinda justified here.
So no it comes down to the fact that you don't wan't to spend this kind of money on a game console, and that's ok.
Perhaps you can't afford it, that's also ok.. This is not a product that anyone needs for survival.. This is the "Pro" premium model.. And still people spend more money on Apple Watches..
But enthusiasts who have the money and understand the value of the tech in this product will likely buy it.
800USD (Playstation 5 Pro 700USD + 100USD Discdrive sepparately) OR 800USD (Playstation 5 Pro with integrated discdrive) OR 800USD (Playstation 5 Pro with detachable discdrive bundle)
if the price is all together the same for a disc capable PS5 Pro then why are people crying about it? Why do people assume that Sony takes a meaning premium for the detachable discdrive vs what they would if the drive was integrated? for all we know the difference could have been like 5USD. But I would say that I would much rather prefer paying that to have a discdrive that I can easily replace the day when it decides to fail.
People will keep crying over how expensive this is. But I doubt it's actually that expensive when you stop and think about what a gaming PC would cost that is about as powerful and as capable of raytracing..
No-one is forcing you to buy this machine, just wait for next generation and enjoy your regular PS5's if you can't afford this product.
Meanwhile I will look to put in a preorder for this console because for me it's worth it, and no I won't but the disc-drive anyway because I don't care about discs these days.
@themightyant Would you have preferred to have the cost of the disc drive included in the PS5 Pro and a disc drive that is permanently attached to the system?
Hmph.. The PS5 Pro will probably be terrible for most game collectors and people archiving games anyway since Sony probably won't re-release the entire PS5 library on physical media just to include the "Pro enhancement" patches on disc. Well this means you are going to have to rely on the internet regardless to get the full PS5 pro experience. And that defeats mosts of the arguments for physical media I suppose.
Anyway I am well aware that there's people who will be fine with this compromise and the idea of only having to download the patches but having the rest of the game installed and played from disc.
Still.. I see the most benefit of this Pro systems for people who already chose the digital version not because it's less expensive but because they're tired of physical media, scratched discs and noisy disc readers.
@themightyant I am pretty sure it will support the disc drive attachment.. This is a good thing, everyone will buy the same system regardless if they want the disc drive or not. And those who already spent money on a disc drive won't have to feel like they wasted money as they will be able to move it over to the Pro model.
The only "issue" is arguably that it's not included in the box..
But to me that's a plus because I don't wan't a disc drive and not including it obviously drives down the price.
So I see very little reason for complaints about this
@thefourfoldroot1 Not everyone is ok with the idea that games that you have payed for could be unplayable because Sony close down their servers. That's the reason to buy a large storage device, that way you can keep you games on till the drive eventually dies at least, and perhaps indefinitely if you make backups using drive cloning software
@trev666 You can skip most of the "Bloat".. Yes they wen't a bit over the top with the mini games in this one. But I personally think that Queen's Blood was a great addition. But they could have skipped the frog game and the Tifa gym mini game (you know of which I speak).
Those were challenging while not being fun or having any significance in the story at all. And the rewards was "meh..". so it ended up just feeling frustrating
@NEStalgia We already have hardware capable of decent foveated rendering at high resolution. Not we just need some generational improvements basically.
@NEStalgia I mean the reason why most headsets don't support foveated rendering is because most headsets today do not have the necessary hardware (eye tracking hardware)
This will change, I think eye tracking is going to be in pretty much all headsets in the future together with foveated rendering.
Foveated rendering IS the future of VR, I can see little reason not to use it. Except the cost of including eye tracking hardware.
But prices will drop.
Hmm, the screendoor effect on the PS5 is caused by them using fresnel lenses rather than pancake lenses, that's not related to resolution. I have yet to see 2x4k OLED screens with pancake lenses so I don't know what screendoor effect to expect. also there's MicroLED on the horizon (which should be great for VR)
sure native 16k @+90fps is a long way off, I am not arguing against that. But usually it's easier to render 2 screens stereoscopically over rendering one large screen, that's because the only difference between the two screens is a slight camera angle adjustments. and so that should make it more difficult to render than 8k, but less difficult than native 16k in theory.
Then if we add foveated rendering I assume that the actual render resolution will be closer to 4-6k (depending on how aggressively they cut back the resolution in your peripheral vision), the thing that matter is that what you are looking at is super sharp, if your peripheral vision is running at 720p that's fine.. you probably won't notice it.
The peripheral vision is over 90% of your vision. So 90% of the screens can in theory be running at super low resolution to improve performance and only 10% needs to take advantage of the super fine DPI. But probably better to make some extra headroom so 85+15 is probably not a bad idea.
I own a PSVR2 and I never saw any issue with it's eye tracking and foveated rendering, Also tried the Apple Vision Pro and it's great at foveated rendering too.
It's one of those techniques that just makes a lot of sense for these products. Linus from Linus tech tips tried it as well and seemed really blown away by it.
I absolutely feel like foveated rendering is more than a wildcard, it's more important for VR than VRR or DLSS is in the PC space.
@nocdaes You had too high expectations and asked too much out of this game, take a few steps back and look at the game objectively.
Even if you are disappointed that it didn't live up to the standard ok Final Fantasy VII the original you have to admit that it's a damn good game.
I was completely and utterly disappointed with Final Fantasy XVI, but I can at least admit that it's a really good game. Even if it isn't really a Final Fantasy game.
@NEStalgia I dunno, with foveated rendering being a thing as well as hardware accelerated upscaling like DLSS I think we could reach that level of clarity within just a few years, If someone is trying to.
I don't know what you got the 16k number from (2x 8k)? I think 2x6k probably will be good enough?
That being said with foveated rendering I wouldn't be surprised if the best GPU's today are already powerful enough.
@Flurpsel Yeah, when it comes to form-factor those are getting close to where it needs to be at.
Although we need so more breakthroughs before I would say that we got THERE.
I think the field of view needs to expand in such a manner that you don't see any edges at all, I don't know how they will achieve that , perhaps curving the old displays and lenses in a slight dome shape or something so that the edges can get closer to your face perhaps? I don't know if that would even work with the optics. But it's clear that some sort of breakthrough is required there.
I also think that eye tracking needs to do more. I feel like in order to really feel like you're there your eyes should be able to adjust the depth focus in a natural way like in reality. I know there's research being done in this area so that's something to look forward to.
I also love Sony's approach of putting a fan inside the headset to deal with lenses fogging up, but how do you make that work in a small form-factor headset?
Perhaps some sort of heat pipe that goes from the inside to the outside where there's small fans, so that you get condensation on it rather than foggy lenses? I don't know, just farting out random ideas.
@rjejr Well it's not strictly a VRR system.. The regular PS5 has VRR support as well.
The new system should be capable of delivering an enhanced experience for people without VRR capable TV's as well.
there's plenty of games that struggle keeping a steady 60fps on the PS5. And some of these games support VRR (meaning that the frame rate could drop to every now and then without it being extremely noticeable)
For people who don't have VRR the frame rate will dive straight to 30fps when it's not capable of maintaining 60fps.
But a new more powerful system should be capable of hitting that 60fps target more often if not all the time. So that is an improvement even for those why don't own VRR capable TV's.
@Rob_230 I have the 65" C1, it's great for gaming, 120fps, VRR and HDR support, it's really specced out for modern console gaming. later models like your TV should be able to get a bit brighter for HDR content so that's cool.
Even if they show the PS5 Pro during the Tokyo game show in September, there no guarantee that the console with be in the hands of customers this year.
It's not unusual for consoles to be revealed many months before launch.
@DeusX Me personally never really minded the camera or chocobo travel, I don't think there's anything wrong with the pacing really (and I did every side quest) and 100% the world intel.
But I do agree that the game has too many mini-games.
But I get it, if you just wanna play the main story then perhaps it can get annoying that there's a lot of extra content in the game.. And yes there's a lot more content than in Remake, it actually feels a bit more like a Final Fantasy game. Personally, I think that's a good thing.
I absolutely loved the inclusion of Gilgamesh, and also what they did with chocobo races, it's actually fun this time, way better than in the original game in my opinion.
and yeah while I get that Chadley/Mai can be annoying, I personally never felt that it was anything that bothered me too much.
Navi in Ocarina of Time was way more annoying for me and that's still regarded as one of the best games of all time.
I think Rebirth is indeed a great game, way better than Remake and XVI. One of the best games of all times? Probably not.. But still great
I hope they end the whole pro console thing.. it takes away too much from next generation and justifies a long cross-gen period. I personally don't like that.
I would have been a lot more impressed with the PS5 if the PS4 Pro didn't exist, and I think the gross-gen period would have been shorter.
@PuppetMaster I read the first few lines and your checklist as well as the Mario part.
the checklist and it's mostly full of thematic STUFF, none of which has anything to with the actual gameplay of the GAME. except a few small things that also exist in a billion other games that does not have Final Fantasy in the title.
About Mario, Mario RPG is a spin-off, it's not mainline, it's never been mainline.. it's closest relatives are the spin-off franchises Paper Mario as well as Mario and Luigi. You don't know what a spin-off franchise is or what?
Mario 64 is trying new things sure. but it's still a platformer with Mario where you jump through levels and explore. and stomp on Goombas.. The core Mario essence is still there, it's the same genre. It's just in 3D and have sandbox levels instead of linear start -> Finish-pole levels.
I never said that change is bad..
As long as it's done within the confines of the genre change and innovation is a good thing that should be celebrated.
But change the genre and you're bound to tick some people off.
Anyway I lost interest in continuing this discussion with you.
You and I will never agree that much is certain.
@PuppetMaster the "creators" can sometimes have stupid ideas and I am encouraging people to speak up about it.
SquareEnix are not perfect beings or gods that never make mistakes.
We the players are ultimately the ones who decide whether or not a product is going to be a success of fail. So why shouldn't we make our voices heard?
And why shouldn't SquareEnix care? Because if they make a game that we don't want and won't buy, then they loose money.
There is no written rule that a game can't change genre.
but in the history of mankind it's been shown that we are a species that tend to value tradition. If you change tradition too much, you'll upset people.
It's just the way things are. (and the key words are "too much")
Changing some aspect here and there is usually fine and even valued to a degree.
I call it common sense (which you shouldn't need a manual to understand)
But let's say that your country decides to stop all the creepy/spooky stuff on halloween and ban all the trick or treating.
Instead we should all dance around a big pumpkin and sing song about some saint or whatever.
that would upset people, obviously. Because you're taking away years of tradition.
If we are talking about Mario Bros vs Super Mario Bros (or early Donkey Kong games) there's a big difference, these games were just in the beginning of the franchise, before they had defined identities and a traditions to follow.
When a franchise is new you can experiment with it's identity differently then what you can once it's old and have an established identity and tradition already.
I understand that you are extremely open to the idea of change and seem to have no understanding to how anyone could want a franchise to carry on tradition.
But there's plenty of people who do care about these things.
Would you complain if Square Enix Decided to return to a turn based formula for Final Fantasy?
@PuppetMaster No Final Fantasy XI may not exactly be a spin-off but I will never accept it or XIV as main line games.
To me they should be part of a Final Fantasy Online branch.
Much like how World of Warcraft is not part of the mainline Warcraft franchise.
Why should they be separate from the mainline? Because they're a vastly different kind of game.
I think of all of those as spin off titles. Mainly because they're a completely different genre than the mainline games.
It has nothing to do with putting a certain logo on the cover and/or stuffing as many chocobo's, crystals, Moogles and Cid's in the game as you could. Then it would just be a Final Fantasy themed game, not a Final Fantasy game.
A game franchise like Final Fantasy has established a gameplay identity after 10 games.
10 games of single player turn based RPG games where you control a party and take advantage of enemy weaknesses.
Now comes a game that requires you to subscribe to play online with other player and has completely different gameplay.
It's even a different genre.
No matter how good it is and how many Final Fantasy references they throw in. I can't see it as a mainline Final Fantasy title.
Why would turn based combat kill the franchise?
People still play chess, don't they?
I don't remember people complaining about the battle system in 9 or 10 or even 13.
Sure people have complained about a lot of other things about those games, but usually not battle system.
Heck most people seem to like the pure turn-based implementation of the FFX battle system for it's tactical aspects.
When these games were new, I never heard anyone complain about them being turn-based.
It never felt like turn-based was getting stale or boring to me because they always innovated within that genre, coming up with new features for the turn-based system and the other mechanics of the gameplay.
No I do not limit myself to huge budget. I do play DQ and many of the other titles you mentioned.
However Final Fantasy filled a certain spot which no game currently occupies.
(a really high quality, polished Japanese RPG experience that has a sense of taste and strong art direction)
And you know sometimes I am itching to play a Final Fantasy game, the last one I consider a proper Final Fantasy game is 23 years old..
They tried with XIII but it fell flat due to its linear approach, not due to the turn-based battles. The sequel XIII-2 was generally more well received due to it being more open. I never heard anyone complain about the turn-based combat.
So I really don't think turn-based combat is going to kill the franchise.
If anything is going to kill the franchise it's the lack of consistency and identity of the franchise in recent years.
It's absolutely dividing the fans and causing confusion.
@PuppetMaster most of those games you mentioned are classified as spin-off titles. And honestly I think the online games should have been a separate branch of Final Fantasy games. (Much like how World of Warcraft is not considered a mainline Warcraft game.)
The practices at Square Enix are just plain weird at this point. Oh so if Sakaguchi likes the new direction then everyone else should be ok with it? Is that your point?
Personally I don't think "Adventurousness, Courage, and Determination" are key qualities of a Final Fantasy. I Disagree with Sakaguchi on that point. Those can be some "key qualities" of any adventure story. I don't about that interview man..
But since you seem to like brining Sakaguchi up, perhaps you should read into why Final Fantasy exists and why he created it..
He created Final Fantasy because he didn't want to do action games, and he wanted to make an RPG. That's the reason the franchise exists. And turning the franchise into an action game franchise is kind of disrespectful to not only the fans, but also to itself.
Yeah there's some turn based games still. Usually lower budget project or (like someone said) anime style things. But nothing like Final Fantasy.
Where's the big epic turn based games with great quality and huge scope? Well perhaps Dragon Quest XII can be that, who knows.
@PuppetMaster it's true that he said that, but changing the genre is probably not what he meant.
You can still innovate within the same genre and come up with new mechanics and fun new features.
I never thought the turn-based combat felt awkward in XIII for example.
say what you will about Final Fantasy XIII, it definitely was too linear. But the combat system wasn't bad.
Although they messed it up by having a super linear growth system. Otherwise it could have been pretty great.
And you know, for me it doesn't quite need to be turn based. I would prefer turn-based but I am ok with the system they have in VII Remake and Rebirth. At least there's a bit more PRG elements in those games.
But preferably I would see them try getting back to making a classic Final Fantasy RPG game.
It's not for everyone. But isn't there plenty of action games as it is already?
@glennthefrog But it doesn't play like a Final Fantasy game. And it IS a game, it's not a movie or a TV show. So it's kind of, sort of important that the gameplay still is somewhat Final Fantasy like.
You wouldn't make a Final Fantasy themed RTS game and call it a mainline Final Fantasy title now would you?
@ShogunRok perhaps you should read the comments again, it seems like most people agree that it's a good game.
Even many of those who don't think it's a proper Final Fantasy title seem to agree that it's a decent/good game.
Even though I agree that it's a good game, I feel a bit disappointed that it wasn't more of a Final Fantasy game.
And when I say Final Fantasy, I mean the core gameplay and genre.
Imagine stuffing a Tekken game full of Nintendo characters and calling it Super Smash Bros. That would disappoint a lot of people even if it turned out a fun game.
However I would never guess it was a Final Fantasy game if it wasn't for the Chocobos, Eikons, crystals and some names that is reoccuring throughout the franchise.
But when it comes to the actual gaming (because final fantasy is a game franchise) it's completely something else.
I sure hope that Final Fantasy XVII isn't a Tekken styled fighting game with a Final Fantasy story that you get to experience in cutscenes. (No offence Tekken, Love you bro)
Like I said, I enjoyed 16, but I don't agree with the change of genre. I'd say it's about time they go back to the more tried and true formula and see if they can still innovate with that genre.
I mean if Mario and Zelda can still pull out new surprises out of the hat without changing genre, then why can't Final Fantasy do the same?
@Drago201 Well he did mention that if they find something while working on the PC port then they might be able to carry that over to the PS5. But that was "if" and "Maybe" so I wouldn't keep my hope up for it.
I still have hopes that one day VR will be less of a gimmick and more like the standard way to play games.
I think it has the potential to do that eventually.
But first we need smaller and lighter headsets/glasses that are comfortable to use. And I think the optics needs to improve.
I think everyone want's clear super crisp visuals (4k-6k OLED screens with HDR is probably fine) with eye tracking, no screen door effect, or color fringing, full field of view and no ghosting when you turn your head around.
Eventually we'll get there. Apple is doing a pretty good job pushing the limits, but they are also way too pricy.
But we need more players on the market to drive innovation and acceptable prices.
I would have absolutely loved to see a new Uncharted game made for the PS5 from the ground up.
I feel like they definitely could do some prequel or even hand the torch over to the daughter. Or why not go even further back and perhaps reveal the story of Nathan and Samuels parents, perhaps they also had some adventure going on.
We know that at least their mother Cassandra Morgan was an archaeologist
@BeerIsAwesome Probably a new character, if it was a crossover character then that would probably have been mentioned. But you can't really have too many foxes so that's fine!
Guys, I know that you are proud Playstation owners and would never get an Xbox (because it suck) or a Nintendo Switch (because it's lame old hardware with no horse power)
Right?
The fact is that you probably wish you could afford to own all consoles and a super beefy gaming PC as well. Not everyone can afford access to all platforms and there will be awesome games then that you can't enjoy.
But that's not a good reason to get upset and act like a teenage fanboy. (Unless you are a teenage fanboy)
Me myself, I am finally at an age and stage of my career that I can afford access to all platforms. But most of my life there was Nintendo + Playstation (No Sega or Microsoft love)
@FullMetalWesker Well, better story, characters and music is not related to cost as this is more of an artistic focus.
(I've seen indie games do better than Square Enix in recent years on these things)
I do not only want better story characters and music. I am saying that I am fine with them compromising on the budget and graphics among other things to achieve that.
So no, it's not that I want more.. I just want different. And I am potentially fine with less if they start going the right direction. But they think it's more important to put their budget on awesome graphics and fast paced action with a million sparkling particle effects every time you swing the sword.
I can assess that the recent games are good for what they are..
I genuinely did enjoy my time with Final Fantasy XVI and VII Rebirth.
But they do not tickle the Final Fantasy spot for me, they just don't.
It's as if Nintendo announces a new Mario game, but it turn out it's a first person shooter Mario with almost no platforming. Nintendo would never do that and say that it's the next title in the mainline.
Because they have a clear understanding of the Mario formula.
If they released such a game it would be classed as a spinoff title.
But Square Enix on the other hand have lost the perspective on what the core gameplay formula should be.
They just think "Oh MMO's and action prints money so let's take Final Fantasy that direction".
And I think that is the wrong approach.
They can still make action Final Fantasy games and MMO Final Fantasy games.. (But classify it as offshoot branches from the mainline or spin-off titles then, it worked for Persona for example)
Or you know create new action IP's that are actually good?
And before you write: "But Final Fantasy has always been innovating and experimenting"
I am sick and tired of this argument. Yes they have always done that, but generally within the boundaries of the turn-based RPG genre. I do not agree with them completely abandoning this genre in favour of action and online.
I would have been fine with them releasing the action based games as a off-shoot branch and being vocal about that.
And I would even be fine with them prioritising their budget on the action based games as long as the true RPG mainline branch still existed and there was still games being worked on in this branch (even if they were lower budget)
The sad thing is that there's pretty much no replacement for the Classic Final Fantasy games.
Most other jRPG franchises are action oriented, low budget anime games where you can spend extra money on swimsuit outfits for your characters. Dragon Quest is probably the closest thing we have but that has a very different tone compared to Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy had this more adult tone with a very delicate taste for art and music.
Dragon Quest was more aimed towards everyone with a more cartoony and humoristic style.
Kinda like comparing Lord of the Rings with Harry Potter.
@FullMetalWesker Well I think that the realistic fans do not expect "more". Me personally I expect them to disappoint me at this point. But not because I want "More".
But if they didn't disappoint me, if they made the game I dream of.. Then I wouldn't expect more of it than Final Fantasy XVI or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
In fact I would expect that they could make such a game on a smaller budget, I expect that it would be a step down in graphics quality.
But I would expect better story, better characters, better music and a more tradition Final Fantasy formula.
And I think such a game would be a bigger hit.
I think that a lot of fans of the franchise feel the same way.
It's not that we expect "more", we just want a Final Fantasy game that feels and plays like a Final Fantasy game.
(Which could be done on a much lower budget if Square Enix wanted to)
As much as I love Final Fantasy 14 I have to say it..
F*ck Final Fantasy 14!.. It's a good MMORpg game but I am tired of hearing the 14 fans being disappointed that the new games are not like 14.
14 is not like any of the great Final Fantasy classics.
If anything I think it's about time for Square Enix to look further back for inspiration.
Screw the random encounters but bring back the ATB turn based combat.
Also lower the budget... As cool as the Eikon battles look they were too expensive to make.
Instead of making an action game with incredible visuals I wish they would focus on making a good RPG with great story and characters.. And they don't need to reinvent the wheel or change genre. They only need to try to be somewhat innovative within the boundaries of the genre.
Like they demonstrated that they are capable of doing with Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default.
It's been so long now since we had a Final Fantasy title with a more traditional system. So I actually think it would be refreshing to see a game returning to that style.
And it doesn't need to look like either Octopath traveler or Final Fantasy XVI, they could come up with a new look that still looks good but perhaps doesn't require such a huge budget.
(Perhaps take inspiration from the Final Fantasy IX FMV's for a more cartoonish style)
It's high time they returned to their roots and created a game that is a proper Final Fantasy game and not something else dressed up as a Final Fantasy game by just stuffing googles and chocobos in it.
Imagine someone releasing Chess 2 and it being a first person team shooter were each chesspiece is a player and the objective is the same as in chess (protect your king and take down your opponent's king)
I am sure that could be a fun game, but it would hardly be a proper chess game worthy of the title Chess 2.
If I think what Chess 2 should be, I think of a turn based boardgame with the same or similar objective as chess.
Perhaps introduce some new chess pieces with new movement and maybe have some slight changes to the board that allows for more complex strategising.
I feel the same about Final Fantasy or Mario or Zelda.
Stay true to the core gameplay formula for sequels.
And for different type of games, release them as spin off titles or branches from the mainline.
That third phase of Leviathan though, where you need need to press the DPS to prevent Tsunami... I do not think I am a bad player but man I think it took me like 10 tries before I finally got past that..
@NEStalgia Yeah none of the options are really optimal, I just prefer to get used to the slow but somewhat more stable 30fps over the highly unstable 60fps that you get in performance mode.
Again, I am much more happy with the performance they achieved in Rebirth (Thank you Unreal Engine). Over there I am actually playing in performance mode. I obviously prefer a stable 60 over 30. But I can't stand that kind of unstable framerates it totally ruins the experience for me, it makes me not even wanna play.
So I beat 16 in the 30fps graphics mode.
I also have not tried the new patch yet but I am planning to give it a spin later this evening.
@Th3solution I don't know about it being too long, depends I guess on how you look at it.
I would say that at times it feels too slow, like the battles take too long to finish. But in terms of story, I feel like the game is quite short for a Final Fantasy game. It's not as short as Final Fantasy XV but it's not a lengthy Final Fantasy game.
It's just that the battles can get kinda slow and boring after a while.
Adding Expansions and buffing damage throughput should certainly help a bit to balance that in the right direction.

Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@jrt87 Sure, I wish Apple would target me with their top of the line computers.. But they don't and I can't afford them. However I don't feel the need crying over that. I just get the MacBook Air instead and it's a pretty good computer
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@jrt87 Sony is most likely not making this console in the same quantities as the regular PS5.
Sony don't expect everyone to upgrade..
Remember, this is not the PS6 or PS5.5, this is marketed as the more premium and extra powerful PS5.
They know that it won't sell like the regular PS5 (especially not for that price)
So obviously they will be producing them at a lower capacity
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@Pranwell Indeed, most likely the scalpers will be hesitant with all the negativity
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@Bizzy Not you can't.. not with raytracing
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@Slideaway1983 Then you know, this product is not for you, and that's fine. Just stick with performance mode on the regular PS5 then.
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked
@themightyant That was not my point.
So what would you prefer
800USD (Playstation 5 Pro 700USD + 100USD Discdrive sepparately)
OR
800USD (Playstation 5 Pro with integrated discdrive)
OR
800USD (Playstation 5 Pro with detachable discdrive bundle)
if the price is all together the same for a disc capable PS5 Pro then why are people crying about it?
Why do people assume that Sony takes a meaning premium for the detachable discdrive vs what they would if the drive was integrated? for all we know the difference could have been like 5USD. But I would say that I would much rather prefer paying that to have a discdrive that I can easily replace the day when it decides to fail.
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
@Slideaway1983 Well good luck finding even a 2nd hand PC with the same performance for less money.. Good luck
Re: Don't Worry, You Can Add an Ultra HD Disc Drive to PS5 Pro
People will keep crying over how expensive this is. But I doubt it's actually that expensive when you stop and think about what a gaming PC would cost that is about as powerful and as capable of raytracing..
No-one is forcing you to buy this machine, just wait for next generation and enjoy your regular PS5's if you can't afford this product.
Meanwhile I will look to put in a preorder for this console because for me it's worth it, and no I won't but the disc-drive anyway because I don't care about discs these days.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked
@themightyant I am pretty sure it will support the disc drive attachment.. This is a good thing, everyone will buy the same system regardless if they want the disc drive or not. And those who already spent money on a disc drive won't have to feel like they wasted money as they will be able to move it over to the Pro model.
The only "issue" is arguably that it's not included in the box..
But to me that's a plus because I don't wan't a disc drive and not including it obviously drives down the price.
So I see very little reason for complaints about this
Re: PS5 Gets a Staggering, Officially Licensed 8TB SSD
@thefourfoldroot1 Not everyone is ok with the idea that games that you have payed for could be unplayable because Sony close down their servers. That's the reason to buy a large storage device, that way you can keep you games on till the drive eventually dies at least, and perhaps indefinitely if you make backups using drive cloning software
Re: PS5 Gets a Staggering, Officially Licensed 8TB SSD
@thefourfoldroot1 Can you still buy and download games on the PS3?
Re: PS5 Gets a Staggering, Officially Licensed 8TB SSD
@thefourfoldroot1 Surely Sony's servers will be available forever and games will always be downloadable for the PS5...
Re: Queen's Blood Confirmed for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sequel, CCG to Be Expanded
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
@NEStalgia We already have hardware capable of decent foveated rendering at high resolution. Not we just need some generational improvements basically.
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
Re: Feature: The 10 Best PS5 Games of 2024 So Far
@nocdaes You had too high expectations and asked too much out of this game, take a few steps back and look at the game objectively.
Even if you are disappointed that it didn't live up to the standard ok Final Fantasy VII the original you have to admit that it's a damn good game.
I was completely and utterly disappointed with Final Fantasy XVI, but I can at least admit that it's a really good game. Even if it isn't really a Final Fantasy game.
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
@NEStalgia I dunno, with foveated rendering being a thing as well as hardware accelerated upscaling like DLSS I think we could reach that level of clarity within just a few years, If someone is trying to.
I don't know what you got the 16k number from (2x 8k)?
I think 2x6k probably will be good enough?
That being said with foveated rendering I wouldn't be surprised if the best GPU's today are already powerful enough.
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
@NEStalgia It's not horrendous, but it is overpriced
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
Re: PS5 Pro Still Likely to Launch This Year, Tokyo Game Show Reveal Possible
Re: PS5 Pro Still Likely to Launch This Year, Tokyo Game Show Reveal Possible
@Rob_230 I have the 65" C1, it's great for gaming, 120fps, VRR and HDR support, it's really specced out for modern console gaming. later models like your TV should be able to get a bit brighter for HDR content so that's cool.
I think you will be satisfied with that TV
Re: PS5 Pro Still Likely to Launch This Year, Tokyo Game Show Reveal Possible
Even if they show the PS5 Pro during the Tokyo game show in September, there no guarantee that the console with be in the hands of customers this year.
It's not unusual for consoles to be revealed many months before launch.
Re: Feature: The 10 Best PS5 Games of 2024 So Far
But still great
Re: Feature: The 10 Best PS5 Games of 2024 So Far
@nocdaes average? What are you talking about?!
Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year
I hope they end the whole pro console thing.. it takes away too much from next generation and justifies a long cross-gen period.
I personally don't like that.
I would have been a lot more impressed with the PS5 if the PS4 Pro didn't exist, and I think the gross-gen period would have been shorter.
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
@PuppetMaster No Final Fantasy XI may not exactly be a spin-off but I will never accept it or XIV as main line games.
To me they should be part of a Final Fantasy Online branch.
Much like how World of Warcraft is not part of the mainline Warcraft franchise.
Why should they be separate from the mainline? Because they're a vastly different kind of game.
Dude.. do you think of Mario an Rabbids as a mainline Mario game? Do you think of Mario & Luigi as mainline Mario games?
Do you think of Pokken tournament as a mainline Pokémon game? Do you think of Hyrule Warriors as a mainline Zelda game? Do you think of Final Fantasy Tactics as a mainline Final Fantasy game?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
@glennthefrog But it doesn't play like a Final Fantasy game.
And it IS a game, it's not a movie or a TV show. So it's kind of, sort of important that the gameplay still is somewhat Final Fantasy like.
You wouldn't make a Final Fantasy themed RTS game and call it a mainline Final Fantasy title now would you?
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
@ShogunRok perhaps you should read the comments again, it seems like most people agree that it's a good game.
Even many of those who don't think it's a proper Final Fantasy title seem to agree that it's a decent/good game.
Even though I agree that it's a good game, I feel a bit disappointed that it wasn't more of a Final Fantasy game.
And when I say Final Fantasy, I mean the core gameplay and genre.
Imagine stuffing a Tekken game full of Nintendo characters and calling it Super Smash Bros. That would disappoint a lot of people even if it turned out a fun game.
Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?
It's a good game, real pretty too.
Re: Round Up: What Was Announced at Summer Game Fest 2024?
Soo, pretty much nothing then.. Well except for Civ7 (But that was just a cinematic teaser with no in game content)
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Patch 1.33 Makes Us Think the Frame Rate Will Never Be Fixed on PS5
@Drago201 Well he did mention that if they find something while working on the PC port then they might be able to carry that over to the PS5. But that was "if" and "Maybe" so I wouldn't keep my hope up for it.
Re: PSVR2's PC Adapter Available on 7th August, Costs $60
Re: Naughty Dog Won't Be 'The Last of Us Studio Forever', Says Neil Druckmann
I would have absolutely loved to see a new Uncharted game made for the PS5 from the ground up.
I feel like they definitely could do some prequel or even hand the torch over to the daughter. Or why not go even further back and perhaps reveal the story of Nathan and Samuels parents, perhaps they also had some adventure going on.
We know that at least their mother Cassandra Morgan was an archaeologist
Re: Rumour: Full Astro Bot PS5 Game to Be Announced Very Soon
@BeerIsAwesome Probably a new character, if it was a crossover character then that would probably have been mentioned. But you can't really have too many foxes so that's fine!
Re: The Next Naughty Dog Game Its 'Most Thrilling Yet', Says Neil Druckmann
I would have laughing if it was Tom Howard at Bethesda saying this.
But this guy.. I'm not laughing, I'm sceptical but very curious what they are cooking up.
Re: Soapbox: Once a PS4 Console Exclusive, PS5 Players Are Missing a Visual Stunner in Hellblade 2
Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5
Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5
(Which could be done on a much lower budget if Square Enix wanted to)
Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5
Re: Hades 2 in Early Access Has Critics Raving, Big Jump Over First Game
That artwork gives me Zelda - Tears of The Kingdom vibes.
probably a combination of the actual art style and the use of green magic stuff.

you probably meant polygon count?
Re: Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide (PS5) - A Fantastic Sendoff for Square's Action RPG
That third phase of Leviathan though, where you need need to press the DPS to prevent Tsunami... I do not think I am a bad player but man I think it took me like 10 tries before I finally got past that..
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Patch 1.31 Out Now on PS5, Brings Big Damage Buffs for Clive, Better Side Quests, and Much More
@NEStalgia Yeah none of the options are really optimal, I just prefer to get used to the slow but somewhat more stable 30fps over the highly unstable 60fps that you get in performance mode.
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Patch 1.31 Out Now on PS5, Brings Big Damage Buffs for Clive, Better Side Quests, and Much More
@Th3solution I don't know about it being too long, depends I guess on how you look at it.
