I got mine today. I’m underwhelmed with the hardware so far. Haven’t played a game yet, but spent 45 minutes or so doing the setup: the text and visuals were extremely blurry, at least for me (and yes, I read and followed all the setup guides I could find, on this site and elsewhere; and I tried with my glasses on and off). It was so bad that I figured there was no point even trying a game yet. The problem seems to be that the “sweet spot” for crisp visuals is incredibly small, and I can only really hit it by holding the headset in a very specific position using my hands; I can’t get it to stay in the sweet spot with the unit actually positioned on my head. (Judging from Reddit, it seems like lots of folks are having this issue. Maybe it’s just a problem for newbies to VR, because I don’t recall it being mentioned in the reviews as a significant issue.)
It also gave me a blinding tension headache during the setup phase. I didn’t have the strap on super-tight; just tight enough to hold the headset in position. (This latter issue might just be me: I also get headaches from most over-ear headphones.)
Anyone else having similar problems? Would love to hear some setup tips from this community. I’d love to get it working right so that I can keep it; but as it stands, I’m going to have to send it back if I can’t get the blurry-ness resolved.
I had high hopes for this game, but after playing just 30 minutes of the demo, it was clear that this game isn’t for me. The dialog was grating; the visuals left a lot to be desired; the wheel-switching magic and weapons was clumsy, the combat was unsatisfying, and the traversal wasn’t exciting. In many ways, it felt to me like whichever one of the Final Fantasy games that was re-released for PS4/5 a couple of years ago: I bought it and just couldn’t finish it (can’t remember right now which one). So maybe my reaction to Forspoken is just that that type of game isn’t my cup of tea. (I do like Bayonetta and love Breath of the Wild, though, which have some similarities to Forspoken. So I don’t think it’s entirely the genre of Forspoken that turned me off.)
I wasn’t really interested in this at first: games that do horror & gore for their own sake don’t really interest me. But the trailers have convinced me that this going to be a great story with great gameplay, and the Helix Station podcast sealed the deal! (The podcast is really worth a listen to; I hope they continue to expand the Callisto Protocol universe through such podcasts post-launch).
This is great news, but I cannot understand the logic of them choosing midnight on a weekday for the release. That pretty much limits it to (1) people in other times zone where it’ll be a more reasonable time of day and (2) people in the U.S. for whom it’s not an issue to stay up til midnight on a weekday (which is not most people: anyone who has to get up early for a “regular” job, caregiving responsibilities, etc., can’t readily stay up til midnight). All I can figure is that the target demographic for this batch really is folks in non-U.S. markets or the stereotypical high school/college aged gamer.
I disagree with all the negative commentary about a possible TLOU remake. Do I “need” a remake? No. But I’d be first in line to buy it if true! Playing my favorite game again remade for next-gen would be amazing. So, just to balance out the negativity: I hope this is true!
Same question as many others have posted: how is the difficulty compared to, say, Demon’s Souls and Sekiro? I rage quit those two after investing many hours: both the degree of difficulty and the nature of the difficult rendered them not worth my continued effort. By contrast, I enjoyed and completed Returnal: very difficult, but at least the repetition had variety. If Elden Ring is more like the latter, I’ll try it out; if it’s more like the former two, I’m gonna pass.
I had planned to play Horizon first and then Elden Ring on PC, my theory being that the latter might be subject to more quirks/bugs upon initial release. I may now do the opposite; seems like they’re going to aggressively address the various issues with Horizon, so may as well wait til that happens rather than plowing ahead (I’m only a couple hours into the game). To be clear, none of the issues I’ve experienced make it anything close to unplayable and I’m enjoying it overall; but I figure I’ll get the most enjoyment by waiting for all of the fixes/improvements.
That’s cool. I was running it in Resolution Mode based on the recommendation in several articles (like this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gamingbible.co.uk/news/horizon-forbidden-west-runs-best-on-ps5-at-30fps-20220216.amp.html). I switched to Performance mode and it’s now running better in some respects, but not all. No more late loading graphics/textures, but still graphical errors like Aloy’s spear killing machines by stabbing into air near the machine rather than the machine itself. And still some janky NPC behavior, like the NPC standing in the open directly in front of a machine and the machine not noticing him at all. (Of course, Performance v Resolution mode wouldn’t affect that: just saying that it seems like they still have some not-minor tweaking to do.)
I don’t know exactly what “shimmering” is supposed to mean, but:
I’m about 45 minutes into the game on PS5 and, while it’s fun, I’m underwhelmed with the graphics performance during gameplay so far. The cut scenes/cinematically look amazing, but just in my few minutes with the game, I’ve already noticed (1) late loading textures/graphics; (2) weird gameplay mechanics (like the behavior of the only NPC in the game so far - running in place, etc.); (3) “misaligned” graphics during combat (not sure if that’s the right word), like Aloy’s spear stabbing into thin air while finishing off a machine rather than into the machine itself.
I was going to buy it, but decided to pass due to the lack of any difficulty options. I will definitely buy it once those options are included! I just have no interest in brutally difficult games: there’s no enjoyment in that for me. I know that there is for others, so including the option allows folks like me to play it and enjoy it without taking anything away from those who want the brutal difficulty.
I very much look forward to all of these TLOU-related happenings. The current version TLOU does run fine and look good on the PS5/PS4, but I’d look forward to a remake and would definitely purchase it. As to a TLOU2 Director’s Cut: if it’s anything like the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s cut (significant added content and significant improvement over the already gorgeous graphics), I’d definitely buy that too. I have little interest in Factions because I have little interest in multiplayer generally, but maybe it’ll surprise me.
So: hardly a waste of time and resources in my opinion; to the contrary, I’m excited by this news.

Help me out: who were Troy and Ashley in this trailer?

Whoa! That trailer somehow exceeded my very high expectations for this game… wow. Kinda speechless.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part 1 Really a 'Cash Grab'?
I’ll be buying it day one. So no, I don’t think it’s a cash grab (unless “cash grab” now means “a way for a for-profit entity to make money.”)
Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay Reveals a Pretty Big Mechanical Change from the Original
I stopped playing RE4 after about 10 minutes because I despised the controls. Looking forward to the remake.

Re: Elden Ring (PS5) - Likely Another FromSoftware Great
@WallyWest
That’s not universally true. I “complain” about the difficulty/repetitiveness of Demon’s Souls and Sekiro, and I own and invested hours in them both.
