It's crazy to wonder how far ai will go. If it reaches the point where someone can type 'make me a football game with x parameters' and the ai just churns one out, then is anyone even going to want to pay for it?
I think the problem is the rotating nature of them. With ps+ basic, at least you get some feeling of ownership because they stay in your library indefinitely after you've claimed them. Even my old PS3 games that I claimed 10 years ago are still accessable.
The new model, you don't even know if the game is going to around long enough to even finish it. You feel like you are playing on some hidden time limit, which I don't think most people like.
Playstation has a history of being a bit barren in the first half of it's consoles life, then tons of great games in the second, but yeah it has seemed even slower than usual lately.
@tomic20 I think it's something that needs to be there right at the start to avoid things like this. Sure they may have had reasons for delaying it, but it's not something you can insert after everyone's bought it already.
@rjejr dreams isn't monetizesd it's just people making stuff for fun/display talent as far as I know. No idea how Fortnite/Minecraft works. The basic idea is fine I think, an engine for aspiring programmers/creators to make some money and learn to program. But seems from my limited understanding of Roblox, claims of those people being taken advantage is muddying the concept somewhat.
TVs appear to the recurring theme here and other frame rate debates, I personally am not that bothered, I appreciate a console has only so much power, something's got to go sometimes if you are making a game that is more ambitious in other areas, graphics, ai etc. That said, Im using a fairly old TV that wasn't even that expensive in the first place.
@Melee_Ace it's definitely not the difficulty as far as ESO is concerned. If anything I think it may be too easy, although that seems to be a very hot topic among the ESO fanbase judging by forums. They seem to like it that way, apparently the dungeons are where the challenge is.
Coincidentally I tried it again last week, saw a tempting sale price. My level 50 character from the launch days was still there, but I had no idea what was going on, so I've started a new one. Feeling a little underwhelmed so far to be honest, maybe it's best not to go back sometimes.
@NEStalgia the cartoons and merchandise of Nintendo weren't really a thing in the UK back then. Before the snes and megadrive, home computers like the spectrum, c64, Amiga were the UK gamers preferred gaming machines, thanks mostly to their affordability. Nes, Atari etc were around but they didn't have the same user base as America apparently had.
I mean, if you are looking at the whole history of video games, Lara croft possibly deserves it just for how huge she was in the 90s. There's an argument that she led the jump to mainstream. Agent 47 though, uhh...
I'm just confused it was possible in the first place, I assumed streaming devices were incapable of running anything natively. It's got enough memory to install stuff?
What are fans expectations? I was just expecting a better graphic version of the original, but considering all the trouble this game seems to be having, I assume the developers vision is far grander.
@Octane yeah the draw distance in Minecraft isn't that far actually. Well the landscape goes on for ages but the details vanish from not too far a distance. Even say being able to see your stuff fully from the top of a mountain would be a big improvement, at least for me.
I thought both games were great back then. I liked their breezier atmosphere than most of the RPGs at the time. The grinding doesn't bother me as much as it seems to reviewers, but the 3dish graphics do take a bit of getting used to when trying to explore. I'd still recommend any jrpg fans to try them though, cool stories, likeable characters.
@SgtTruth resident evil 7's exclusivity ran out years ago, yet capcom never bothered to move the vr to pc. Honestly it suggests they'd have never made it vr at all if Sony hadn't funded it. I personally think that's an example of exclusivity being a force for good, a product being made that very likely never would have otherwise.
Also this game is quite unique in that playing the first is probably considered a requirement by most people. People who haven't played the first prob won't even be tempted to buy it even 'to add to the pile' yet.
I don't know about Japan, but I do know that games disappearing suddenly in the second week can often be down to physical availability issues. It might just be that there weren't any copies to buy.
@skaarj217 yeah the ps1 original via ps+ premium. This is the remastered version. Not that I'd imagine a huge difference between them. Grandia 2 is new to PS4/5 though.
@DaniPooo they are talking about a physical version of the pixel remaster collection I think. The one run was so limited that it sold out in seconds. Copies rarely even appear on eBay, suggesting that the number printed was ridiculously low.
@Flaming_Kaiser don't even get me started on ff pixel remaster. I swear square must've only made like 100 copies for PS4. I know it's hard to judge how many games are going to sell and sometimes under estimate, but the demand is/was clearly there in that case.
I bought the original dlc, prob not bothering with this though, not planning on playing again anytime soon. Extra songs are quite cool when you are playing though. You can go to the settings and change the battle music to random, so you don't get the same song every single time. There seems to be a bug (?) where selecting random takes the actual original music out of the mix altogether though.
@Czar_Khastik yeah switch was limited run only. I doubt it'll get another physical. It'll very likely hold its value if you get one though. Assuming you don't mind waiting a year for it to turn up 🙄
@RudeAnimat0r I've read the original was about 30 hours, but it got a very mixed reception at the time. maybe the remake alters it a lot though who knows.
Persona 3 seems to be out of stock, in all the town stores at least. I suspect it would be higher if it was more available.
Edit : oh these are digital sales? I can't explain that then. Except RPG fans are possibly more inclined to buy physical than other genres.
@ATaco did you play the original? I never did but reviews of the (PS2) final chapter seems to be pretty negative from what I've seen. Complaints that it's just a dungeon crawl, and a really hard one at that.
@kedireturns yeah the phrase 'console exclusive', ignoring pc releases has been around for a while now. It's understandably a bit confusing so usually when you use it you'll get at least one response disagreeing, pointing out it's on pc too.
It probably wasn't that difficult to get, Xbox doesn't seem to have a huge jrpg fanbase. They've been trying to change that lately, but they still seem to be at the point where they need to offer a sweet game pass deal to get the devs to even bother putting them out on Xbox.
I've played this briefly on pc. From my short go, it does seem a lot more streamlined/simplified. Which is better or worse, depending on your opinion. It certainly didn't grab me like the first one did though for some reason.
@TrickyDicky99 yeah it's just the sacrifice the devs are willing to make to make other areas of the game better. Games are still power hungry, conforming to 60 (or even lol 120) FPS would push back other areas by several years. Maybe one day hardware will be so powerful and affordable it won't matter any more but we are clearly not there yet.
I don't know why they dont understand how successful live service works. Make a good game, attract the players, then introduce the live service elements when and if the game is successful. Dlc shops from the start are really going to hurt your chances of being successful in the first place.
Great series. In hindsight it's kind of surprising that the originals 3 and 4 didn't get more recognition on ps2. Well persona was quietly regarded as a series that people who tried it loved even back then, but it's odd that it didn't take off more.
@Ajbr8687 there are more indie games than before, but I don't think games from bigger companies has increased, if anything they have been making less lately. Putting all their efforts into making the two/three brands they hope will keep selling. The days of ubisoft/ea etc putting out loads of cool new games seem to be gone sadly.
I bought dreams as soon as it came out, but unfortunately I never found the time to learn how to use it properly, and ended up not playing it a lot, apart from sometimes looking at what other people have made. Technically it is fantastic though, seems a shame to break up a team capable of making something so good just because they made something this time that didn't take off as well as they'd hoped.
@amatmulisha yeah technical issues aside, streaming seems like a bad time for gamers even if it ran fine. Your gaming library will be constantly at the mercy of the off switch, I really hope gaming manages to avoid the streaming route.
@Jill_Sandwich googling playstation tournaments brings you to the details, there's quite a lot to read so I can't summarise it, it doesn't really interest me. Sports, fighting games and uhh sackboy seem to be the games.
@Icey664 for a game that nobody supposedly wanted that game is certainly holding its value remarkably well. Even physical second hand is refusing to drop.
@Babayaga people have been able to trade their old games since the start of the industry. If anything it is less of an issue now with more people moving to digital. Subscription services on the other hand, well who knows, they haven't affected my buying habits personally but I can't speak for everyone.
@CutchuSlow it's probably a bit presumptuous to assume that everyone has a phone that can do this. I think a lot of people are happy/put up with phones that are considered outdated.
Especially by phones ridiculous turnover rate, outdated if over a year old.
@Nem first time I played it I got through the entire game without figuring out how to get the summons, i finally found out near the end. The world without internet was a dark time. Though I did like 8 a lot generally. The graphics especially, they did look realistic at the time.
@Bionic-Spencer I'm guessing there's a bit of time between a game releasing and it appearing the recommendation lists, even the new releases one, well most games, bigger ones prob get on them straight away.
Edit : nm me it is one the new releases section, I missed it first look
