Re: Opinion: The PS6 Cannot Come Out in This Era of $1,000+ Consoles

@themcnoisy
It is not just 30 million consoles, it’s the cost of game development and only selling those exclusives games to 30 million consoles and that’s if everyone buys the game.
Remember the big sellers are fifa, cod and Fortnite.

GOY has only just tipped 5 million sales with a 90 million plus PS5 user base.

It’s gonna be a rough time for the accountants.

@NerdyPaul
And that is the potential threat to Sony and they will be aware of that.

Sony will only sell games to PlayStation consoles, same as Nintendo to their consoles.

But these high costs of consoles are making them concerned, sell less consoles the only place you sell games is not great.

Nintendo have some secret winning formula, basically based on less power, less console cost and less development cost.

Sony are known and admired for the power of their consoles and the games they can produce on it.

Due to rising costs and Sony only selling games on PS consoles next generation will very hard to sell especially as will have to make the games cross generation, to get any return on investment.

They are caught in a tricky situation.

They don’t have a 3 Trillion dollar daddy with them either.

I think the hard line Sony has is project Helix that seems to be heading for 2027 release with developer consoles going out to developers in January 2027.

Now we can all go XBOX with the silly console hybrid thing, but I don’t think Sony will see it like that.

Especially if XBOX do some PR and sell it as a console that can play all native series x games and PC games, then for fun XBOX could heavily take a big cost hit to sell the thing.

Re: Opinion: The PS6 Cannot Come Out in This Era of $1,000+ Consoles

Well the PS5 Pro is £780 but not the main production machine.

Of course the PS6 has to be more powerful
and have exclusives.

And there is the issue EXCLUSIVES, do we really think for probably at least for the first 2 years say Horizon 3 cost millions to develop it won’t be cross generation and on PS5 and PS5 Pro.

So the PS6 will have to show a very big difference over the PS5 and Pro version, even if they get the PS6 cost at say £750.

Next generation will at the moment be a very hard sell and mainly due to PRICE and CROSS GENERATION games.

It always amazes me how a few little independents having fun create stuff like this. You see it a lot with Nintendo stuff.

But massive organised studios with 100s of personnel at their disposal can’t and the top equipment and all the original source coding, data and assets can’t or don’t want to.

Too many coffee and biscuit meetings to discuss it for about 6 months before they even make a start.
Hang on, let’s not forget Teams or Zoom for those working at home. 🤣🤣🤣

Re: Sony May Mitigate Hardware Pricing Nightmare by Simply Selling Fewer PS5s

AI-Generation

It depends on your market strategy.
Sell at higher price but sell less but make more profit per unit.

Sell at lower price but sell more but make less profit.

Both have advantages and disadvantages.

As all common sense has left the game industry this generation, they all sell at a high price but sell less.
However this will mean selling less games and less PSN etc etc.

There is absolutely no need for a UK PS5 digital to be £570 or a Pro at £790.
Pure profiteering just like petrol and other goods currently in the UK.

Results since price hike, Xbox series £480 only 400 units behind PS5 recent sales in the UK.

I’m glad folks are voting with theirs wallets, might wake Sony up a bit.

Now don’t get me wrong I have a Pro, a Sony 65” TV and Sony Soundbar system, spent an about £4.5 thousand with Sony.

But Sony are an arse of business to me most of the time.

Re: Hermen Hulst Allegedly Said Sony's PC Ports Didn't Make Enough Money

AI-Generation

The biggest exclusive pull out for me was gears e day by XBOX.
That had at least 300 million in revenue from PS sales, and the game must of been finished or almost on PS5 and Pro with enhancements.

Yet they are realising FH6, Halo and Fable on PS5.
Seems a silly idea that far down the road and sends so many mixed signals to box Xbox and PlayStation fans.

Re: Hermen Hulst Allegedly Said Sony's PC Ports Didn't Make Enough Money

AI-Generation

Of course you have to get your return on investment and I guess a certain percentage for the effort put it, so maybe something like 5% return would not be enough.
Also I do think there might some concerns about project Helix maybe having the ability to run those PS games.

I like exclusives on all platforms especially single player, as usually it enables the developers to really focus and get the best out of the console and also especially Sony and Nintendo use in house developed game engines which helps with that.

@ArcticSin
But then again I’ve had ago about XBOX, but I’m here with a series x as well and GPU until into 2027 and I can’t fault it at the moment.
I’m playing FH6
Next up Halo remake, then Gears e day and then Fable.
And just downloading COD vanguard which is now free, never played it.
Then that’s not including all little game like Minecraft dungeons 2 etc.
and the dam it all looks so good on my Sony Bravia 9 65” TV.

Re: Sony Finally Speaks on PC Cancellations, Wants to Enhance Value of PS5

AI-Generation

I don’t think it would hurt PS5 sales if games went to PC.

But it is all about revenue and return on investment when porting to PC and how many copies you sell.
And if it is worth the perceived loss to your console sale base.
I think there is the little factor of project Helix that may of helped swing it a little but as well.

I mean look at Nintendo they don’t put a single game on anything bar a Nintendo console and I think they are doing great.

Re: Several Xbox Studios at Risk of Closure, in Talks to Become Independent

AI-Generation

@Balosi
I think they want to rely on studios that bring the big games and hopefully the money with them, profit in other words.

I don’t think moving forward XBOX are going to be into smaller games for game pass or just in general.

I don’t think they mind a big investment in say a gears e day or fable or FH6 as they know they can probably make on it, even if now or in the near future they can release on PS5 or Switch 2 and make good money back as well.

I think the wake up call was FH5 selling 5 million on PS5 and some smaller other games they released on PS5 doing terrible, which they already did terrible on XBOX and PC.
