Have you been watching the Netflix series The Witcher this past weekend? What do you think of it? The adaptation of the book series may be dividing opinions critically, but we've seen nothing but positive praise from fans. It sounds like a success, and the show has even had an impact on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's player numbers across the board.
Over the weekend, a reported 48,000 players once again took up the role of Geralt of Rivia on Steam, the highest number of concurrent users since the release of the game's Blood and Wine expansion pack in 2016. That's a huge increase, and it looks like player numbers on PlayStation 4 are also rising. Play Tracker reports popularity increases across the board, meaning that Sony console owners are also rejoining the search for Ciri.
We even considered kickstarting a new playthrough of the game, although then we reminded ourselves of the backlog currently on our hands. Has the Netflix series inspired you to replay The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Toss a coin to your Witcher in the comments below.

My mum’s going to start on Witcher 3 after she beats Red Dead 2 because she loves the show so much. She’s almost done chapter 4 so shouldn’t be too long tbh.
@LaJettatura your observation is commended Mr Bond.
I still really want to play this but never get round to it for some reason. Perhaps over the next few days I'll sink some time into it.
I wonder if it's also increasing the sales of the books?
My sister is actually interested in getting the game now that it's on the Switch.
Interest in this game just seems to keep surging back.
I need to get around to re-installing the game and redownloading all of the patches and expansions. I uninstalled them to make room right before I got my Pro.
Watching the Netflix shows haven't played the game yet, but I do have it.
Thought the series was okay. I give it a 5 out of 10. That being said, I do see some potential in it which is why I'm looking forward to Season 2.
I also replayed the game. Good because you can pick up on things said in the TV series (based on the books) in the game.
@Neolit I also thought the timeline was odd. Its obvioustly set over quite a few years from what we've seen so far. 16 years from what I could make out. It's hard to tell but the bard didnt seem to age from before Ciri's birth to the present day and it took me a while for it to click. Pretty enjoyable tho overall.
Maybe i should give it one more short and see what happens. Ive tried twice over the years and maybe i need to just give it more time on my third go round. I really enjoy the show
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L best since Spartacus...which will probably never be touched. Still my fav "series" of all time
Finished the Switch port yesterday and already reading book 1. Will get to the series shortly!
@roe with the recent January psn sale and the game I'm playing currently that is going to make it difficult, it's a beeefy game too so you really need the time for it, even for me after watching the show I wanted to play witcher 3 too lol
@Deadlyblack I have the game still installed on my hard drive, i have the goty version so no separate downloads I just haven't played it yet but it's still there lol
@Neolit yeah it really got confusing near the end but it was trying to explain that geralt was there all along during the events of ciri.
I absolutely love the show,it's a shame it's only 8 episodes.I think Henry Caville is fantastic as The Witcher and I hope he and the series goes on for at least another three seasons.
I've actually really been wanting to dive back into the game after watching this especially as I still have both expansion packs to left to try but I really don't have the time what with my ridiculous backlog..
I really want to get into the witcher 3, but i only got a couple of hours in. Ill play it....at some point. I just need the time to get stuck in properly. One day! 😬 i will defo have played cyberpunk before i've played this though.
@KratosMD The only confusing thing is that come characters have different names. Jaskier is called Dandelion in the games, and Moussack is Ermion for example. Can be a bit confusing, but they're the same people!
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L only got through the first season of Spartacus but it was very good. My favourite series so far is the punnisher tho.
The show delivered what I wanted for the witcher. I still have the game installed with a couple of side things left to do but after putting in 150 hrs more or less and the main story completed I will have to be pretty bored to go back in.
Season 1 was was miles better whilst season 2 was still good. If felt a bit disjointed with the kid bonding thing. The prison corridor scene was amazing. He played an amazing punnisher. RUSSOOOOOOOOOO! 😂
I swear it's times like this that I wish the first 2 games were available on the PS4 as I have already platinumed the 3rd game
@Areus I'd love to play a remaster of the 2nd one. I nearly got myself a xbox to play it.
I really enjoyed the show even though I was sceptical with Henry as geralt but he does a great job. My only issue was how they handled the timelines. That could of been a bit more fluid.
I actually just started the game yesterday since it became available on Xbox Game Pass recently. Didn't know the show came out till a co-worker told me about it the other day.
@Rudy_Manchego How does it run on Switch? Was thinking of picking it up on Switch but that price 😬. Kinda hard to justify paying $60 when I can get it for $20 or less on Xbox One or PS4.
Making me think I should actually play through the DLCs, which I started right after beating the game.
I reinstalled It to play the DLC for the first time. Really enjoyed the main game but needed a break after beating it. And yes, I had put it off for other games and forgotten about it until the show reminded me.
If I’d not platinum’d it twice already I’d play it again. Favorite game I’ve ever played!
@Nyne11Tyme what a show! Flawless! Even the transition from Andy to Liam didn’t miss a beat!
@AhmadSumadi Wow, platinumed twice?!! Talk about a time investment!
Outside of the casting of Triss I'm enjoying the show. I got three left to watch tho.
@AhmadSumadi yea the prequel focusing on The House of Batiatus and John Hannah helped the transition becauze you had almost 2 years inbetween season 1 and 2 proper. Glad somebody else appreciates that show as mucb as me. Epically written and acted, brutal actio. And arguably the best non porn sex scenes ever directed. Oh and everyone was a gorgeous lol.
Oh and RIP Andy Whitfield. Dude was going to be something very special
@Splat Agreed on Triss.
@Tasuki It runs well in terms of performance. Only slowdown on some very hectic screens that was rare. I had occasional crashes on my Switch and I have seen a few threads but apparently a recent patch has helped it.
That said, graphically it is less sharp and more fuzzy and blurry. So For me, I wanted handheld so was willing to compromise on that because I liked playing it on the go. However if you were going to play a lot docked, I would just go with the PS4 GOTY edition.
@nessisonett You have a very cool mom
Never played the games, as I'm not interested in RPGs or the setting in general.
Might give the series a go at some point, but I don't see it tempting me to play the games.
Yeah, Tris not being a redhead is a massive fail. But I love the show. Was considering getting the complete edition, but I read that saves for the standard game won't work with the complete edition.
Game looks great checkerboard 4k on pro too.
@doctommaso yeah, every nook & cranny explores. Blood & Wine is like a game in and of itself and is arguably better than the main game.
@AhmadSumadi I think I’m going to try blood and wine and pass on hearts of stone for now. I like the colorful world it has to offer and I think it will feel fresher.
@doctommaso Heart Of Stone is fun but it’s more of puzzle-type quests and not a lot of combat. It’s a great story though. Especially how they bring significance to a early character who’s existence had no significance.
@AhmadSumadi Thanks, maybe I'll go ahead with it then.
Lol, I haven't played the game for a while but I saw a friend replaying it on christmas and I just got hooked again, even without watching the show. Already finished it once but didn't get the cards trophies. After I finish my re-run of skyrim, I'll go for the witcher again.. What a game..
@Paranoimia It's not exactly the typical RPG. It's an action rpg.. Yes, there are rpg elements, but it's still very action focus. You should really give it a try. There are tones of potions that can help you, but I just didn't bother very much on learning what they did. Just used the best equipment I could had (searched a litle online ) and that was it. And studied the enemies also, to learn their weaknesses.
@Nyne11Tyme Loved the show. When Andy Whitfield passed away I was like "this isn't happening. The guy is Health in person"..
If you liked spartacus, you should try Rome. Is a litle bit older and has a lot less action, but it's one of my favourites.
If you like action and didn't watch Band of Brothers, just quite your job or anything that you're doing and go for it (and it's based on a real events).
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L The punnisher and the daredevil are, by far, the best marvel series. Just love them. The corridor scene is based on the Oldboy movie, that also has one made in one shot.
And the amount of violence is just perfect =D
@LowTech i enjoyed Rome a good bit. Also Tudors. Tudors was more on the scandal and politics though. Still hope Stephen DeNight is still planning on the Caesar series he spoke about years ago
@Nyne11Tyme I also liked The Tudors, but it wasn't the same thing.
I still think how ironic it was that the set burned down before they filmed the Nero era..
