Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed

Last week, we heard that SEGA will be hosting a Sonic the Hedgehog panel during SXSW in March. The publisher has teased that we'll be treated to a look at what's next for the Blue Blur, and with the highs of Sonic Mania and the lows of Sonic Forces, we're very curious to find out what the future holds for the mascot.

One thing we hadn't really considered, though, was that there could potentially be a new Sonic kart racer in the works. Some slides from an internal presentation at Sumo Digital seemed to hint at such a game; one slide notes that the studio is working on an "unannounced karting game" with an "established global IP". Sonic the Hedgehog's social media and PR guru Aaron Webber subsequently took to Twitter to refute the rumour.

However, the rumour mill has whirred up yet again after the toy manufacturer Zappies, which dealt with the merchandise for Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, has claimed another Sonic kart racer is on the way.

With Webber denying a new entry in the kart racing series, there's speculation that this new racer could be a racing game featuring just Sonic and his multicoloured pals, rather than a broader SEGA love-in as seen previously. Hopefully we'll find out what's going on soon enough.
