PlayStation Network PS4

We thought that Sony had solved all of the PlayStation Network’s woes, but the infamous DDoS attack earlier in the year appears to have left the platform holder’s infrastructure rocking. Destiny’s launch came and went with nary a disconnect, but as the holiday release calendar has heightened, there have been reports of countless problems – as well as the whole DriveClub saga.

The platform holder probably could do with a ruddy good period of scheduled maintenance in order to dust out the server racks and settle everything down, then. And, while we daresay that it’s not going to go down well, that’s exactly what it’s planning for Monday, 13th October. That’s right, starting 10:00AM PDT (18:00PM BST), the online platform will go under construction for seven or so hours.

During this time, you’ll be unable to access Account Management or the PlayStation Store, but, as is so frequently misreported around the web, you will be able to play online – as long as you’ve logged into the PlayStation Network recently. In other words, if you regularly use your suite of Sony systems, you shouldn’t really notice any real downtime.

The firm claims that it will use the period to “deploy a series of back end improvements to the network”, so hopefully this will calm things down ahead of the busy Christmas period. Of course, there’s some speculation that it may also be clearing the decks ahead of PlayStation 4 firmware update 2.00, which is also supposedly right around the corner. Exciting stuff, huh?
