It’s a good thing that the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed: Rogue doesn’t have a ship as leaky as Ubisoft, otherwise he’d be living it up in ol’ Davy Jones’ Locker right now. After months of speculation – and a morning of YouTube copyright claims – the French publisher has finally confirmed that its popular stealth series will be setting sail on the PlayStation 3 as well as the PlayStation 4 later this year.
However, while the next-gen console will play host to Parisian adventure Assassin’s Creed Unity, a completely different title will be heading to Sony’s ageing system. Developed by Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation maker Ubisoft Sofia – alongside a billion other separate studios – the title will see you play as Irish Templar Shay Patrick Cormac, who perhaps has the most appropriate name since The Saboteur’s equally stereotypical Sean Devlin.
Apparently, this will be the “darkest” entry in the series to date, and will allow you to explore the Northern Atlantic Ocean, as well as a new district of New York. “Assassin's Creed: Rogue completes the North American saga started with Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and gives previous generation console owners an exclusive opportunity to experience fan-requested features, such as playing as a Templar," said director Martin Chapel.
It also means that you may potentially have to purchase two Assassin’s Creed titles this year if you’re particularly invested in the property's plot. Do you think that your stomach can take double the amount of tailing missions this Christmas? Feel a little queasy in the comments section below.

That Irish guys likeness and voice are blatant rip off of sean beans mate in sharpe's rifles!!
I'm kinda glad I'm over this otherwise I would be upset that ibis oft would like me to downgrade to a ps3 to play their franchise. The publishers can put out games that require the less investment on last gen for the same price to a larger install base. This is why there is a Barren next gen exclusive release schedule. I would have rather the ps4 games cost an extra $10 like very other transition (it's only fair with inflation alone) than not get any new ps4 games! It makes my heart sad, this very we'll be the last console I buy (and I've bought every console since the Atari). Thank you, I will now step down from my soap box.
I enjoyed black flag mostly, not sure I'll bother to finish it as I've watched my brother play through most of it to the end. Before black flag I had no interest in the franchise and after it I won't either. I loathe the abstergo crap and it's a fairly poor story in general, some of the missions are pretty repetitive too, destroy 8 of these all over a map, capture 6 of these blah blah. Far cry is a lot more fun and watchdogs is already better than AC including the side mission repetition.
What annoys me the most about Ubisoft games is that the very first trailer reminds you that there's DLC.
Perhaps announce a game, then tell us about the pre-order DLC when stores have had enough time to list the game for preorder?
AC Rouge has really got me scratching my head. I simply don't understand Ubisoft's logic....it's exclusively last gen???
Even after AC4 ran beautifully on ps4/x1?
It just doesn't make sense. I understand supporting last gen, but after a full year of new consoles being out they release a game only for last gen, when we all know the engine they are using is fully operational on next gen, AND the year BEFORE we got a game that was multigenerational?
I'm looking forward to AC: Unity more than anything, but I'd love to play Rogue as well. I still have my 360, but after playing AC4 on PS4 last year it's going to feel like a big step backward to play Rogue on 360.
I understand last gen is still a huge market and it makes financial sense to support it, however, what doesn't make sense is to also shut out the 10 million+ people who have already switched over to PS4/X1 when AC4 bridged the gap perfectly a year ago? Why would you NOT make a current gen version?
Looking forward to this more than unity.
It may or may not be because of the awesome black cloak..
How unimaginative. Lets make an assassins creed game where for all intensive purposes it looks like you play as an assassin from any of our previous games. But heres the twist lets put templar logos on the clothes instead! At least haytham wore another outfit and it was a little bit of a suprise when you found out about him! This new guy could be altair/ezio/connor and i bet they probably just reuse all the old free running animations from black flag AC 3. Also while im having a rant why is it that so many people could free run in these games? Guards can climb anywhere you can thiefs/messengers can run everywhere you can.....two steps forward one step back ubi soft and i havent even mentioned the pre order dlc!!!!
I smell trilogy HD Remaster for ps4.
@Gemuarto
Maybe, but unlike some other developers/publishers, at least Ubisoft is putting new games on the new hardware first.
@drumsandperc92
I agree with their logic from a business point of view. I think the availability of a next gen version puts people off on buying a last gen version..... If the game is available both next gen and last gen people who haven't upgraded yet may decide to wait until they have a next gen console to play a superior version... those people are more likely to buy a game that is only on last gen
First Irish main in Assassins Creed and hes a damn Templar. God dammit! Accent is horrible as well.
I'll be waiting until AC: Rouge (PS3) is $30 New normally in a year, but I definitely look forward to playing it.
As for AC: Unity, I won't own a PS4 until Christmas 2016, since I'd rather wait for all the bugs to be patched and have a bigger HDD for $100 cheaper (1TB PS3 for $300 ftw).
