It's always a bit concerning when we've only really seen screenshots of a game that's apparently set to release in a few short months, and this is absolutely true of Ready at Dawn's alternate history romp The Order: 1886. The only footage we've glimpsed of the impending shooter is that memorable trailer at E3, and, unfortunately, the California-based developer doesn't appear to be to ready to break this deafening silence any time soon. It has, however, decided to grace us with four tasty screenshots to keep us busy until we get something a bit more substantial.
The images – spotted on Sony Santa Monica's fancy new website – show off a variety of new locales, as well as a veritable menagerie of the title's fascinating weapons. With that said, it's unclear if these screens represent actual gameplay, or if there's some other nefarious force at work. Regardless, the third-person shooter's striking steampunk style is particularly palpable in the pictures, so we don't think that there's any real need to panic. What do you make of these brand new screenshots? Do the PS4 exclusive's visuals have you ready to fawn, or just ready to yawn? Protect the monarchy in the comments section below.

As far as I'm aware, these are in-game - although a couple may be cut-scenes. In fact, one of the developers was saying on Twitter overnight that these are old and the game looks better now. Bonkers...
I seen some screenshots this morning and the game is looking unbelievably good, graphics wise it looks amazing the level of detail is insane.
Just show some gameplay footage already T_T
I can understand them keeping schtum, they don't want a bunch of average gameplay sequences flying around the net and creating indifference like we've seen with infamous. Better to wait and blow our minds. Looks pretty good.
This releasing in a couple of months? When was this announced?
Hoping for a lot good news at E3...
@SuperSilverback They announced a tentative "Fall 2014" release date a while back. But judging by the fact that we haven't seen any gameplay, we might not be seeing it that early. Or they're just holding their cards close to their chest, and I need to stop being so cynical....
@k_andersen Ah right! I see! going by Ready at Dawns last few epics, i still believe this is going to be something special!
Is it just me, or does the guy seem to be doing the splits in the first pic o_O
Love that we're having a debate over whether these shots are in-game or not. I think that means Ready at Dawn's done its job!
@SuperSilverback Gymnastics was totally all the rage in the 1880s!
This would have to be my most anticipated ps4 game. Really hope its the game that makes me need to buy a ps4. I never got around to playing the infamous games but that new trailer didn't do anything for me at all.
I want to get hyped for this game but there's no gameplay.
Ugly characters to be honest.
Developers almost completely stopped doing cg cutscenes that were not in engine during the ps3 gen. They are even less likley now. Its crazy that this game comes out this year but they have hardly shown us anything. The game must be very close to done...
There is no way this game is running at 60fps, but that seems to be the trend with all the first party games. Must be an order from sony to do all games in 1080p 30fps. I think its a better trade off than 900p 60fps, like xbox1 games.
@goonow
Hopefully 30 FPS stops being a trend. I know Tomb Raider is a port of a last-gen and so because of that should be able to run 60 FPS on PS4 but still, if a third party can do it, first parties that are familiar with the hardware should have no problem. I give Sucker Punch a pass for inFamous: Second Son because it's a massive open world game running on new hardware. I'll give any studio doing that style of game on PS4 or X1 a pass for the first release. After that though, the gloves are off. It's 2014, time moves forward, not back, anything less than 1080p, 60 FPS better be a thing of the past in the coming months and years.
