It’s strange that Sony hasn’t officially said anything about the PlayStation 4’s pre-order scenario in Europe. We suspect that it wants punters to go ahead and put a deposit on the system, anyway – even if launch day consoles are now no longer guaranteed. That’s official at this point by the way, as UK outlet ShopTo has stated as much.
“Sony has confirmed [that] all PS4 pre-orders placed from 6th August will now not be guaranteed for launch,” reads a message on the console’s product page. “You can still pre-order [your] PS4 with us in case we receive cancellations and can fulfil your order for launch.” Chatting with Eurogamer.net, a spokesperson for the retailer said that this is an official directive from the platform holder, and applies to all European shops.
It corroborates, of course, with reports that we’ve been hearing for the past week or so: that the Japanese giant has more or less put a lock on PS4 purchases at this point. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, it’s still worth doing do so – if only to make sure that you’re in the queue. It looks like landing a console at release is going to prove difficult from here on out, though. Good luck, everyone.

Europe is playing second fiddle.. Agian. Europe is a far better supporter of the playstation brand ( expect UK).
@Sanquine I think this is just a case of the demand being really high.
@get2sammyb. Demand?? Really? How many pre orders do you think? More consoles than the awful sales of wii U or vita?
@Sanquine These systems always sell out at launch — even the Wii U did well in its first months — so, yeah, absolutely. I imagine the PS4 will be flying off the shelves until Christmas. It's the New Year when things will probably slow down — hopefully inFAMOUS: Second Son will give it a second boost, though.
I'm hoping this means we are getting closer to launch day, I feel like an 8 year old waiting for Christmas.
To be fair the UK started taking pre-orders Feb 20th. The U.S. waited 4 months (til E3) to start taking pre-orders.
@lvnlavitaloca and we ran out last month and its been on and off since then....with the remaining stock if they do open back up going in mere minutes.
Pre order a PS4 after the event in February, so I should be able to get one and well my friends should also as he order in March.
Pre-order after 6th August won't guarantee launch day delivery...
I just pre-ordered on 4th August does this mean i'm guaranteed launch day delivery?
*Pre-ordered from ShopTo
@Jasoon As far as I understand it, It means that you will receive your PS4 on launch day, yes.
