How could you resist?

Yakuza 5 landed a devastating blow on all of the other new releases in Japan this week. The latest title in SEGA’s seedy series registered 356,757 sales, which was enough to score it a spot at the summit of the region's charts. The hotly anticipated sequel sold more than the combined total of the top three Wii U launch games – but couldn’t beat the first week tally of Yakuza 4.

Despite the success of the new arrival, PlayStation 3 sales only increased by a small amount. Sony’s home platform sold 36,994 units during the period – a drop in the ocean compared to Nintendo’s hardware figures. Elsewhere, the PlayStation Portable shifted 19,637 units, while the PlayStation Vita stayed fairly static at 11,039 units.
