Topic: USB hub for PS3

Has any one tried adding a USB hub to their PS3, or have you heard if it will work?  I just got my gaming headset which uses a USB port, and so does the EyeToy for my Move.  So, I either have to unplug something to charge a controller or charge it from my PC, but I'd prefer to add more USB ports.  What if something else comes down the road, for example I also have the dongle for D.J. Hero.

I use an old 4 port hub with mine. I think all should work as long as they are USB 2.0 and self powered (or powered with an A/C adapter). Mine is pretty old so I'm not really sure if "hub technology" changed much, but without the A/C plugged in, it can only pull enough power for USB 1.X causing it not to work with ps3.

rockband had a usb hub for ps3, nyko makes a hub with sd reader and infrared (for universal remotes) that plugs right into the front of the ps3. USB hubs work fine on ps3 but id recomend getting one with its own plug so its not draining the ps3's overal power when you have multiple things plugged in.

Same as always. All bark, and no bite!

I tried an old unpowered USB hub, probably not 2.0, and it would charge the Move controller but not the Dualshocks. I also found the Move wand will charge on almost anything while the Dualshocks seem to test for something. I have the Eye and the Singstar dual mic bundle plugged in so lots of jostling to either charge stuff OR more importantly to use my 2 non-Sony controllers which require dongles. Don't know what we'l do for 4 player LBP2 if we want to either use the Eye alone or with the Move. Stupid Sony.

I'm not sure I follow. Why would four players cause an issue with only two usb ports? It's all wireless lol. You'd plug the Eye in, and be good to go? With all my bazillion devices, the only time I had a problem was while playing Singstar Dance when I wanted to charge my controller while I played. Extremely minor problem imo. I could still use Move or my voice to navigate.

Not sure where mine is at, but I use a 4-port USB Hub to play on Rock Band, and it's not powered and it works fine.

@slap - same....at least that Rockband purchase is still doing something for me .

4 port hubs are crazy-cheap though, and of the 3 or 4 I've tried on PS3, they've all worked perfectly.  I need multiple USBs since my arcade stick uses a converter so each player needs a USB input.  Having all my controllers run through the 4 ports on the hub, then using my usb keyboard/mouse dongle in the single remaining port on the ps3 tends to be the ideal setup.

I linked a pretty cheap one (was $6 I think when I checked...and Belkin is pretty high quality) if you want it below:

Thanks, I'll get one, just wanted to know if I need to get a powered one.  Seems like that's the best/safest route, if not strictly necessary more most input devices.  USB 2.0, seems to be the key.

They're dirt cheap here in China, but don't have one yet and wanted to know what to get.  Thanks for all the input.
