Game of the Month: Ghost of Yotei (October 2025)

Just to note, Dispatch won't be counted in this Game of the Month vote since it's an episodic release.

It'll be included in November's Game of the Month poll instead, once all of the episodes are out.

My vote goes to Digimon Story Time Stranger, a great game and personally the best digimon game to date.

It doesn't surprise me Outer Worlds 2 is underperforming - Good enough yeah, but hardly set the world on fire.... personally, Obsidian really need to buck their ideas up 😐

A very easy poll - I was playing Ghost of Yotei most of October and its easily my Game of the Year, and one of my top 10 this generation (which contains a lot of Sony 1st party games).
Quite a turnaround in my eyes, as GoT was a game that I just didn't click with.

I am having fun with Outer Worlds 2, but Ghost of Yotei just might be my game of the year for 2025. Fantastic game, easy choice.

I mean, it's Yotei and it's not even close. But let's say Yotei wasn't there I would vote Arc Raiders.

Yooka Replaylee is the only one I've played, so my vote has to go there

Arc raiders just edged BF6 into 2nd place. BF6 is a superb game but arc raiders is just more atmospheric and interesting.

Knowing this site, the vote will be very one-sided. For me it's Once Upon a Katamari, finally new and good Katamari game since Vita.

Yotei of course though BF6 is a close 2nd for me.

Arc raiders by a long shot in my book.

I went with Ghost of Yotei because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Outer Worlds 2 would be my second choice, but I have not yet finished it, so cannot say with any level of certainty how it compares to Ghost of Yotei. Both are extremely good games though...

It's months like this that I'm grateful for my backlog. Woof.

I LOVE Digimon Story Time Stranger... but Ghost of Yotei was absolute PEAK!

Didnt play one of these games but the headline got me. I read deicide instead of decide. Deicide is always + 1000!

I heard very good things about ARC Raiders, especially for people who never play extraction shooters. Will probably give a try.

Ghost of Yotei was phenomenal. I’m already missing it after moving onto RE3 Remake. I do wish there were more enemy variants and movesets. But nonetheless, I had a blast in the open world riding through the gorgeous flower fields.

The only game I’d even consider aside from the obvious best choice that most people here seemingly have the good sense to vote for would be Dragon Quest 1+2 HD2D.

@Max_the_German yah its a fun time, you just cant go into it expected some fps run around guns blazing and respawn to do it all over mentality. It really is one of the bst mp games ive played period. That all boils down to how dynamic and different every run can feel and the people you meet along the way.

The best way i can describe the tension is that of an action movie. surviving with a dodge roll into an elevator or tunnel before a rocket shooting drone ordinance hit you. Or the music ramping up as the time ticks down to extract. It's all so well done. With a pair of headphones, the sound design is also some of the most impressive I've ever experienced.

I too went in having never played extraction, nor did it appeal to me, however this one really hits. (I play mostly solo and love it, however team is also great, although a lot of folks on PS5 don't seem to use mics which is definitely not great when playing team in this. The ping system works, but mics are so much better.

Digimon Story Time Stranger is easily the best game of October. Nothing else touches it.

Can only go for the brilliant Battlefield 6 ... .not played any of the others yet. Tho GoY is ready to go and Outer Worlds 2 downloaded on GamePass

Arc Raiders is good. Haven’t played Yōtei but I suspect it’ll take the gold here.

@KundaliniRising333 That sounds really like the best MP game for my gaming habits and preferences. I just decided to play it for the two weeks after Christmas, when I have some time and can focus on learning the maps. Thank you!

Since Yotei gonna win, this time i'll give my vote to NG 4. Finally NG series got a new main title after 13 years.

Not actually played any of them as I’m trying to dig through my backlog but I’d guess it’d be Yotei if I had!

Voted Ball X Pit b/c Yotei is gonna win anyway. Enjoyed both games a lot!

I chose Ball x Pit. I played Ghost of Yotei and got the platinum for it. The game was top notch; however, Ball x Pit just had me thinking about it when I wasn’t playing. When a game can do that it is something special.

I couldn't choose Alan Wake 2.

I know, it's not a new game for October - but since it hit Plus in October, it was new to me, and I'm enjoying it. Hope to finish it before my Plus subscription expires.

I even picked up the DLC on sale - I was thrilled to see Jesse from Control show up!!!

Ghost of yotei but ninja gaiden 4 and the outer worlds 2 are pretty good

Been burnt out for months, hits about 10pm and I crash out. I got Ghost of Yotei yesterday and played it until 4am. Weirdly had energy to go to a gig tonight. If it cures my Burnout I’m recommending it to the government for NHS rollout.

Yotei is my game of the year, even though Death Stranding 2 is more profound to me if that makes sense, I cannot deny that Ghost of Yotei is just more fun from start to finish. The obvious game of the month.

Yotei easily, outer worlds 2 ain't so good at all, so Ball Pit gets my second vote, then Arc Raiders

Yotei certainly is popular. As someone who loved the art direction of Tsushima, liked Jin's characterisation and the mythic tales, but found the combat lacklustre and open world to drag (a lot in late-game), is it worth trying?

Little Nightmares 3 for me but haven't played Yotei may pick it up this week. Judging by some comments above even if you didn't rate the first game highly Yotei is a piece of art. I suppose I could new game plus Tsushima as can't for the life of me remember much about it. That in itself is all that's putting me off Yotei.

Ghost of Yotei is great, but I'm finding myself struggling to finish it. It's absolutely beautiful but feels a little less captivating than GoT for some reason.

I voted for Arc Raiders as that's distracted me and I'm really enjoying the loop so far.

@Weez I personally Yotei has improved on Tsushima in every single aspect.

@Jammer Just take the plunge brother and pick the game up, You don't need to know anything from Tsushima to enjoy Yotei to it's fullest as it's set 200 years after Tsuhisma.

Ghost of Yotie is the only game i bought in October, so the only game i could vote for. It is good though.

Yotei has been brilliant. I'm nearing the end and have loved pretty much every minute of it (with perhaps the exception of getting Revenant-ed by that damn bear). I pray that big-budget single-player experiences like this never go away.

@Uromastryx more niche then Outer worlds you think? genuinely asking. Also Silent Hill f won last month and before SH2R came out I would say 80% of gamers have never heard of SH as a franchise.

@Oram77 yeah inthink outer worlds would get away without been niche has thath fallout, post apocalypse, survival feel in it so, and your definitely right about SH, but for me always back in the younger days I tought you were SH fan or RE fan, but soon realised that SH was definitely the outlier

Had to fire up Tsushima first as it'd been a while, but started Yotei last weekend and well happy with it thus far.

Ninja Gaiden 4 being seriously slept on here. Best action 3rd person combat in forever! Outer Worlds 2 has been great so far though I'm not far enough in to truely judge it.

@Dalamar this is the site they all come to! nothing wrong with that of course - lots of games this month but in my opinion really not much quality but the excellent return-to-form Ninja Gaiden 4 is the easy winner for me

No surprise. Well deserved. One of the games I have had the total pleasure of gaining the platinum for.

@Rich33 In what way do you find it better? I really liked GoT at first, but got bored with all the repetitive side mission clutter. It felt like the generic open world formula in a good looking skin.

Does GoY improve on that? Or more on other aspects?

Please bear in mind I only played through GoT once, back when it launched, so I'm a bit hazy on some of the details. I didn't replay or buy the dlc as I just didn't find it enjoyable enough.

I didn't like the whole Samurai honorable, ghost bad, story of GoT - whereas GoY may be a relatively typical 'revenge' story in some ways, but I enjoyed it far more. I also though the character of Atsu was at times better written than Jin, and there was a better supporting cast.

The way Atsu's backstory is filled out - particularly in the early stages felt much better, backed up by the enjoyable mechanic of switching between timeframes (though I will agree that 'Young' Atsu is grating on a VA / Processing front - its the same actor).

Graphically, I wasn't a fan of GoT - it always looked very 'muddy' to me even on a PS4 Pro. GoY looks excellent (played on PS5 Pro), with stunning looking locations, and that really helps the game in my opinion.

The Spyglass in GoY allows you to highlight distant POI and add them to your map, allowing you to use the map much more effectively.
There is still a lot of side content - it feels better handled and more interesting than I remember for GoT, and the Spyglass mechanic likely aids in this.
The wolf mechanic is a nice touch.

The combat is also better than I remember, and I prefer the new weapons to the stances in GoT.

If they released a Story type expansion for GoY, I would be buying it day 1.

Not surprisingly, I uninstalked AC Shadows and reinstalled Tsushima. I may just start it over again. Shadows is just too bloated, aesthetically messy, and I don't dig the constant updates and tiered loot. Less is more really worked out for Tsushima.

@Lysterao NG4 stages look like the subspace from Smash Bros, or a Street Fighter training area.

I couldn't put Tsushima down, the tight narrative keep me gripped, I really enjoy this game, but its really easy to put down, which reminds me, I haven't played it for a week.. I've only killed 3 so far

About as predictable as the game.

Well earned, brilliant sequel, the atmosphere and setting is just fantastic.
I think it's better than Tsushima but I did really like Jin too, the original was just a bit long especially the 2nd map/area but Yotei feels a much tighter experience - loving it.

Ghost of Yotei was so much fun, couldn't put it down! Great story, great combat, diverse side quests! I don't see how anyone couldn't enjoy it! I'm getting into Arc raiders now and as someone who generally avoids multiplayer PvPs I'm having fun with it but wish it had stayed the PvE that the devs started it out as...
Outer Worlds 2 I really wish I hadn't bought it, don't rate it at all and playing it just to get my moneys worth feels like a chore that I do in 30 to 45 minute chunks bleeaaargh!!
