Ubisoft has announced over the weekend that it is returning to PS4 game Far Cry: New Dawn to give it a 60 frames-per-second enhancement patch when running on PS5. It will presumably release on Tuesday, 4th February 2025 to coincide with the Xbox Game Pass launch, allowing PS5 owners to experience a smoother version of the 2019 Far Cry 5 spin-off.
The patch was confirmed late on Friday night after Xbox Series X|S owners noticed they'd lost the ability to perform an FPS Boost on the title. In order to implement the update on Xbox systems, the feature has to be disabled temporarily. As the PS5 doesn't sport such a feature, it's a simple update to the PS4 version. The shooter is available on PS Plus Extra, so this improved version can be played without charge for current members.
French publisher Ubisoft has quietly been doing a fantastic job supporting its last-gen games with FPS patches on PS5. In the years since the console's launch, titles such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, The Crew 2, Assassin's Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate have all been enhanced.
In our Far Cry: New Dawn PS4 review, we awarded a 6/10 rating and said: "Its streamlined RPG elements do add some welcome structure, but this trek through Hope County may seem familiar to a fault. It's almost a shame that Ubisoft didn't go all-in on making New Dawn a totally over-the-top spin-off, rather than a sequel that struggles to tell an all-too-serious story."
Will you go back and play Far Cry: New Dawn at 60FPS? Let us know in the comments below.

Damn, RDR2 and Bloodborne still do not have 60 fps on PS5 (and PS5 Pro!).
Not as good as Far Cry 5 but I still really enjoyed it tbh. Used to love the old Far Cry expandalones, shame that they didn’t do one for FC6.
This one is easily skipable. I also remember this came out at $40 and literally 7 days later they slashed to $20
Now how about 60fps for Unity next please Ubi?
I hope AC Unity gets a 60fps update as well.
Would love to see a 60FPS patch for Far Cry: Primal! That’s a really solid spin-off in my books.
@Sacrosanctus
You can add The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 to that list.
Last Guardian is particularly galling as the non patch disc version is frame rate unlocked.
Similar for Assassin's Creed Unity, which I'm hoping is next on the list at Ubisoft seeing as they are pushing the AC Nexus/ Animus platform with the new one.
@PorkChopExpress Better to be nicer than your reputation than to actually be like the internet makes up in their heads.
I really enjoyed this when it came out. May have another blast on it
@Ashina Would love to see 60 FPS patch for AC Unity, especially since Syndicate recently got a 60 FPS patch, and 1.0 version of Unity supported 60 FPS (along with a hilarious number of bugs) before it was patched out later. That gives me hope that it shouldn't be too difficult to add it back in.
Oh, and I just started playing Unity so if they release a 60 FPS patch soon, I may be just tempted to start over.
Fair play to Ubisoft when it’s due.
Genuinely so happy about this announcement. When Syndicate got a patch I had hoped it was the start of a new wave (Origins, Odyssey and Far Cry 5 had been obvious picks).
I know this isn't many people's favourite Far Cry, but I've been holding off starting it in the hopes of a patch and am looking forward to finally checking it out. The setting and vibe really appeals to me.
No I just wonder if there's hope they might continue the trend, so that we might see a 60fps patch for Unity, Primal, FC3, Rogue etc.
Hopefully AC Unity is next based on their trajectory!
Now do Far Cry 4 you cowards
Not that old but definitely forgotten
Nice! This one is a tight, short Far Cry game, so I’ll definitely give it another go. Last time I played it was on PS5, so I’ll be treated to a resolution increase, HDR, AND this frame rate boost!
@PorkChopExpress I always have felt the anti-Ubisoft brigade to be strange when EA, Activision, and others had been far slimier with far worse AAA products for a long time. Ubisoft has been a reliable publisher in the industry for a long time, even if their process is formulaic. Outside Skull and Bones and their NFT projects (which I swear, it feels like they’ve made to bomb their reputation, so they’re cheaper for sale), they’ve put out a steady stream of 7/10 tier games with the occasional 8/10 (and the latest Prince of Persia was a 9/10 for me!). The value for their games is typically fairly strong too, given that they are fat games. The gameplay is usually solid, though the storylines and characters tend to be vanilla. I don’t get why Ubisoft has been the enemy of the internet community for years when there have been far worse villains out there. In a way, I feel the internet may have created the villain they wanted to see with the recent history of Ubisoft.
Nice! Can finally play it! I downloaded it a while ago but 30fps especially in a fps is horrendous.
@Sacrosanctus Lost hope of Red Dead 2 getting a patch rockstar simply do not care .
I hope they do Far Cry 3 & 4, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and the rest of the Assassin's Creeds.
How about Primal much better Far Cry game ubisoft ?
Worth noting when I played this on XSX, the boost option caused it to run (if I recall correctly) at the base Xbox One resolution.
Where as I seem to recall I played it without the boost mode at the Xbox One X settings as the higher resolution was so much higher that it was worth playing at the locked 30fps instead.
I played the main FC5 game from start to finish at 30fps on XOX and due to it being very consistent, it was more than playable.
That said, Sony were well behind Xbox this generation with their very mediocre backward compat support, as I'm sure many of you would have accepted 900p or 1080p 60fps.
Sadly with the loss of competition, Sony won't be too motived to do better next time...
It's out! The game is 60 fps now and 1680p. Quite an improvement, even if the now patched Series X version is superior running at 4K 60 fps. Both use the resolution from PS4 Pro enhanced and Xbox One X versions. That is why Xbox versions wins out here.
classic. I just finished it haha Game was ok. Good if you want more from farcry 5. But dont expect too much. I hope they patch 60fps on unity and farcry 3+4 soon as ive not yet played those and they are on the list.
Say what you want about Ubisoft but they have always been solid on supporting older titles.
Could never finish this game. It was just so boring. Nowhere near as good as Far Cry 5.
Still waiting for 60fps patch for Ghost Recon Wildlands, sigh.
Please Ubi do Primal the best FC game
