@BAMozzy I mean yes the Series X might be around the same size in volume as the One X but it's layout/fan design seems to be a direct result of efficient cooling.
I have no doubt that is exactly why we ended up with budget hardware in current gen consoles. Everyone thought gaming on your phone was the future. That couple with the economy at the time like you mentioned played a huge part in spec choice. I have seen comments even as recently as a couple of days ago stating it is too soon to release the PS5 as the PS4 is "Still fine". People don't realise how bad the Jaguar CPU was even at launch let alone 7 years later.
I keep reminding people to look at Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4 and remind yourself that it is running on what is essentially an HD 7850/70 and a mobile CPU! Now imagine those same developers creating a game for a 5700 and 8 core 16 thread high end CPU. Those are going to be some AMAZING games and I am all for it.
@BAMozzy Yeah 2.2ghz is extremely high clocks for a GPU... especially an AMD GPU. The CPU being an actual high end part this time as opposed to a mobile chipset is also great for consumers, but with both those things in mind it is no wonder both MS and Sony had to go much bigger this gen. Neither want a RROD/YLOD situation again.
I personally think the PS5 looks really good and can't wait to get it into my living room.
@TrueAssassin86x I ain't triggered in the slightest and if you are truly getting both next gen consoles then what difference does it make if Series X can run it or not? Like I said, The fact you feel the need to clarify that it's coming to series X (Although until I see that exact demo running on XSX then i will save judgement) tells me everything I need to know. I have access to all Xbox games on my PC and probably on my phone by next year so why would I buy a Series X? If a demo comes out running on Series X showing some awesome tech that's pushing the hardware then i would be all for it but it's doubtful.
@TrueAssassin86x Just go enjoy your 12 terraflops somewhere else. The day I find myself trawling through positive articles about the series X just to say "PS5 will do this too guys" just put me out of my misery.
@Tharsman I thought this myself. With how close Epic and Sony seem to be, it wouldn't surprise me if they demo the unreal engine 5 version of Fortnite running on PS5 when they have their reveal event. I doubt there are many people who don't know what fortnite looks like now so it would be the perfect game to show just how far ahead the next gen is.
@nenads Unfortunately I doubt they would be able to do that. The whole SOC is engineered around the I/O so that there are no bottlenecks to the NVME SSD, Plus gen 4 PCI-E needs Zen 2 so at that point it wouldn't cost much less than the PS5.
@MattSilverado Exactly! Last gen was basically low end PC/Mobile parts. A console with a true 8 core CPU with 16 threads, A high end GPU with ray tracing and PCI-E 4.0 SSD support. This is true next gen and I am very excited.
@Constable_What Sony have confirmed that there should be thousands of games playable at launch. Not all games will be utilising the faster components on day one put it will be similar to Xbox where they add new games every week that run at higher resolution/framerate. You definitely won't need to keep your PS4
@wiiware This is a really good analogy. I would like to add that Xbox also have to support the OG Xbox until 2023 so their exclusives will not be revolutionary until ties are broken with the older gen... Also to look at it more scientifically both Series X and PS5 are exactly 6.1 teraflops faster than their mid refresh brothers. All that plus the increased I/O tech in the PS5 should lead to some very awesome games when it launches.
@starman292 Yeah for sure. Like I said Destiny has always had rock solid fps and frame pacing even since the Beta so it isn't like console is going to be hobbled. I must admit though I am curious to play it at 60 as I think it will probably feel like a different game. PS4 Is where I will mostly be playing though as that is where most of my friends are.
@RedMageLanakyn you may be "Well versed" with all the YouTube videos you have watched, But the only games a 1080ti wouldn't play are unoptimised ones. I can get my strix 1070 to run games like gta5 and FH3 at 4K 60 by tweaking a few settings. 500-600 PC would do great. My PC was 1000 and like I said it plays 4K great. I just reduce shadows/ AA/ Texture Quality to high which is still Very pretty. I will try and upload some videos of GTA 5 running 4K:60 with a lot of settings on ultra.
@starman292 It will feel noticeable, But only for the first couple of minutes. I play The Division on both PC and PS4. When I have been playing on PC and then switch to PS4, It feels like it is in slow motion for the first few minutes but then you start to adjust. I will probably end up getting D2 on both PC and PS4 as I have friends on both. I just wish Bungie would have implemented some kind of cross platform save.
@wiiware Yes but battlefield isn't a locked 60 though. I would rather have stable 30 than unstable 60. I still remember when DRIVECLUB was announced to be 30 fps and every one was saying how it is a poor choice, but to me that game plays super smooth. Some developers have a knack for implementing techniques to make games more responsive than they should be. I mean it says it all when both streamers and games journalists play D2 for an hour and are not sure if it runs at 30 or 60. That is a compliment to Bungie.
@get2sammyb I agree. The main issue I have is that Bungie should be more honest about it. Just saying the PS4 PRO isn't powerful enough is a cop out in my eyes. We all know that if they really wanted to have D2 running at 60fps then they could, Even on OG PS4. The reality is that their engine probably doesn't scale very well, So they would have had to make more sacrifices than they were comfortable with, Which is fine IMO. The amount of Xbox players that are thinking the scorpio is going to get 60fps though is just laughable. Even if Sony didn't have exclusivity with D2 it still wouldn't happen. I will eat my DS4 with some red sauce if I am proven wrong :'-)
@Mega-Gazz I would wait to see the 1080/30 , As that is the mode that has the highest settings. I am looking forward to the comparison between that and 1080 pc/original ps4.
