Added to that, the game scene used to be small, back in the 80s/90s/early 00s when just us 'nerds' used to play videogames, 1 million sales would be absolutely huge.
Flash forward to modern day, a lot of gaming has grown huge, but this is mostly the sports games, the shooter games and very marketed games like pokemon and mario.
Games like Persona and Metaphor are still only played by 'us nerds', cause games like that are not 'cool' and don't appeal to the masses (yeah i know, it's them missing out, just like back in the days).
Considering that, i think these sales numbers are absolutely fantastic. Seeing P5 sell 7.5 million copies (i'm sure metaphor will get there over time too) means to me there's still at least 7.5 million geeks like me out there, enjoying awesome games, and that gives me hope for these niche genres to not fully die out.
This discussion about ff16.. i think it's pretty obvious that Squex has lost it's FF crowd right?
FF used to be cool games, innovative but the core of the game was always relatively the same. In ff16 they went completely overboard with that, ditched anything that makes an FF game an FF game and pretty much just made a cinemactic action game that only resembles FF in it's title. Add to that, that for whatever reason they had their MMO team make it (and it shows, large parts of the game are very dull, where's the exploration etc.?) and it's no wonder a large part of the FF fanbase said 'no thank you'.
For the Sega numbers themselves, no idea how to interprete this. Some sales numbers are cool and all, but if we don't know what they spent on developing each game it's kinda meaningless
Death Stranding 2 here, but i refuse to pay more for 'early access', so i'll just be playing on the 26th. Guess i need a full stop on reading reddit etc from tommorow. cause there will probably be a lot of sour ***** trying to spoil the fun for others.
No, i have a switch and i enjoyed it for moments but i am not playing on it enough to justify buying the switch 2.
Aside from this, their direct had some scumbaggery, showing that introduction game and then casually mentioning it's a paid thing (like, really?), that left a sour taste in my mouth.
I wasn't fully impressed with the whole direct either. 95% of it was (very) old games being playable on the switch 2, like whooptidoo, i played those games already. Their 2 new games were, again, more of the same. It's another mario kart and another donkey kong. Looks fun but were is the innovation Nintendo? You show a whopping 1(!) launch game and it's a number 8 or 9 or whatever. Nothing truly new and exciting.
People who buy this slop should feel really, really, ashamed. I don't get it either, these so called 'trophy hunters', what the heck is the whole achievement in getting an incredibly easy platinum? Like, look at me, i spend 3 minutes doing this?
Maybe if the majority of FF fans doesn't like a new FF game, there's another reason than 'being toxic' (you know, if you discard someone elses opinion like that, it's YOU who's being toxic).
I'm a longterm FF player, since i got to play IV as a kid, i sat through 13 and 15, thought they weren't great but alright.
16 though? it's one of the worst games i've ever played. The only thing that game has going or it is it looks great. Otherwise it's an empty husk of a game. Most of the npc's in the game have the personality of a sack of potatoes, the questing is obnoxious and the constant flying from here to there on the map makes me feel more disconnected from the gameworld than in any FF game before, largely because the corridors feel even more boxed in than in something like FFX or XIII. The worst thing? it bears the Final Fantasy name but it's just not FF. There's no party system whatsoever, the fighting style is DMC and there's nothing of what makes FF FF; The monsters having their iconic abilities. Standing in front of a Marlboro, getting hit by its breath and not receiving a single status effect was the grand epitome of how bad it got in this game.
What a load of nonsense. A lot of people enjoy Ubi games, and you don't get to dictate what people can like or support, as much as you want to little man.
This is just modern times, people like to complain, about everything. They think it's cool to complain or something, you see it really at everything and not just at this State of Play.
They show an incredible lineup of games, probably one of the best in recent years, but no, we need to complain so we'll wine that there was no Ghost of Yotei or Death stranding shown.
The other day i actually heard a friend, of which i know he's a huge rpg fan, say 2024 was a bad gaming year for him. When i said it's prolly the best rpg year in a decade and reminded him of all the great rpg's that came out he thought for a bit and said 'you're right, i was just defaulting to complaining about something'.
The amount of grown adults i see throwing a tantrum over not being able to play games for 1 day... Not only on this site but on reddit etc. too... People seriosuly need to touch grass and consider seeing a shrink if not being able to game one day makes them this upset.
5 days compensation is very generous, legally they're not required to give you anything so be happy with it.
FF7 Rebirth, platinumed in 120 hours over 3 weeks.
Yakuza LAD:IW, platinumed in 85 hours over 2 weeks.
Octopath traveler 2, platinumed in 87 hours over 2 weeks but i did rush this near the end goes it got really boring).
Seems if i go further back, it's about the same, i seem to game for about 40-45 hours a week and if i'm playing a big rpg that's all i'm playing so i can just divide the times the game takes by 40.
Oh look, a FF7R post, half the comments is again full of ff7 'purists' who still don't understand they can just go and replay the original ff7, if they want exactly the original ff7.
I'm hyped for the 3rd installment. Longtime FF player and FF7Remake and Rebirth are both firmly in my top5 FF games.
Can only see this as a good thing. LSG's and always-online-games need to die out, let gaming be gaming again instead of publishers milking players with endless 'DLC's' that should've been in the basegame to start with.
Hopefully this is the first crack of many to that business model!
I'm not excited at all because TGA cares about nothing than the USA with the times they are broadcasting at. For a person with a job in Europe it's not feasible watching a show that starts at 1.30AM.
I think this is in big part due to ff16? ff7rebirth was awesome, but ff16 is just... dreadful. I've started it up several times and got about halfway through, but it just is not final fantasy, and for what it is (an action game) it's pretty poor.
@naruball No, not end of story. The DLC features are all part of the gameplay, optional or not. And the basegame IS very barebones compared to previous entries.
Besides, the entire point is not even if it's optional or not, the point is that adding almost 1000 euros worth of DLC's with features that should have been either in the basegame or added for free, like in many other games, is insane monetization.
Just look at this new DLC alone, 60 euros for a barebones feature that they could've just decided to add in a courtesy patch, but no, let's milk the players some more.
The way you're defending this malpractice almost makes it sound like you're part of the EA social media team.
@naruball I never claimed you need all the DLC's. I claimed it's unhinged monetization. The full game (cause all those DLC's are part of it now) does cost close to 1000 euros, even if you perosnally do not want the full game. It's just scumbaggery in it's finest form to charge for any and all features above the basegame, many of which were already present in previous entries. And when the Sims 5 inevitably launches, they'll do the exact same thing again.
I can't understand how anyone even tries to defend this kind of practice.
I was curious what all DLC's cost for the Sims 4, so i went and put all of them in the cart on Steam. The total price is 885 euros, and this is with the steam sale going on where many of them are discounted.
That's some insane monetisation if i've ever seen any.
The moment this happens is the moment i won't buy another console and go back to PC gaming. I buy some digital games now, but i still have a choice now. As soon as it's digital only you get vendor lock-in which is exactly what we do not want.
Yeah i know i clicked it, but.... Why is this on a playstation news website? Some random streamer did something random, what does this have to do with playstation at all?
Hmm, actually thinking of canceling my PS Plus alltogether now. It's been months on end where both essential and extra got nothing i'm interested in, but this month takes the cake for essential. BL3 is one of those games that everyone who is interested in it already has played it long ago, Among us is mp garbage and who's even interested in nhl outside the usa?
Nothing of interest for me sadly, but i can see extra has some quality games on there this month, just not my style of games. I think many people will be happy with these though.
I already got my money's worth this year from extra, so i'm not too fussed about it, anything else coming this year that i like will be a big bonus!
Rebirth on #1 is well deserved, this will likely be GOTY too, i'd be surprised if it wasn't. Infinite wealth also was greatly fun and nice to see a Yakuza game in the top 3! Helldivers 2, i played it and surprisingly (i'm not a shooter guy) had lots and lots of fun coop playing this with some friends too.
Rest of the top 10 are good too i think, haven't played Dragon's Dogma yet, but from what i hear it's very fun too. P3 Reload, Balatro and TLOU2 Remaster are still on my to-play list, and i might have to look at the Ronin game now too.
I don't mind 30 FPS so much. I grew up with PAL screens on 25FPS interlace and could game fine back then too, claiming i suddenly couldn't now would be a bit idiotic.
For some games i do set it to performance mode (e.g. Helldivers, in shooters the extra FPS actually helps) but for most i go with 30FPS quality mode.
Meh, i'm over D4 and de-installed it, not planning on installing it again. Campaign was fun, 'endgame' was fun for a little bit but then became super boring due to bad decisions at Blizzard.
In the middle of so many players leaving and all the issues the game had, they decided to aggravate people more by releasing multiple €40/$40 store mounts in a €70 game... Made me lose the last tiny sliver of respect i had for Blizzard, and i'm now fully free of their games and intend to stay that way.
I think this is the first month where i'm not downloading any of the games (extra), really not interested in any of them. But i'm also realistic and realise months like these can happen, not everyone likes the same thing, and other people might love these games. There'll be other months where i get stuff i like again.
Don't do it often, but i'm giving this a 10. The game feels absolutely perfect and i loved every second of it, still working on the last few achievements for the platinum, which is also properly hard. The music is gorgeous, the story stays mostly true but i do love the additions they made on it. The game looks beautiful too.
I think there is a LOT of sidecontent for those of us who enjoy it, but they also made it so people who don't want to can skip the most of it. If you do however enjoy it, apart from 1 or 2 minigames the quality of that is also really good.
Hmm, this is the first time i'thinking 'what a load of crap' for the extra tier Ah well, other people might find these fun, and i already had my whole year extra worth out of it already in month 6. More time to work on the backlog!
I think it's the textures and especially the character models. If you compare this footage to for example GoW Ragnarok or The Witcher 3 with PS5 patch (both (semi-) open world to compare) you can see the difference in quality very well.
Even Capcom's own RE4 Remake looks lightyears better than this, and that one is on the same engine. I think they've just hit limitations in what the ol' RE engine can do here (i think ReX isn't fully ready yet?).
Again it doesn't look like a bad game graphicswise, it just doesn't look like a PS5 game either.
Ofcourse it hasn't. Just look at the difference between first- and second-gen ps4 games and last-gen ps4 games. The difference is massive.
Every PS console, the games that were made near the end of it's cycle looked way better than the ones from the first or middle part of it's cycle.
Especially with this game, it just looks like it isn't optimized very well. They are running on a modified engine from 2014 that wasn't even designed for open world games in the first place.
Hmm i'm not one to complain about graphics. I usually don't mind, heck i'm playing retro games half the time.
But even i can see this looks like a mid-gen PS4 game (compare the part with the pillars with the PS4 version of AC Odyssey for example, i think Odyssey looks better). I'll still play it (as i said, i don't mind) but i can see that for people who do like current-gen graphics, this isn't it.
These are some quality games! Not all of them are my cup of tea, but some really good titles are there.
I'll only add Dragon's Dogma into my wishlist as i'm still playing FF7Rebirth and there's already like 15 games i'm planning to play this year. Glad there's a few months coming where i'm only adding 1 game to my wish to play
FFVII Rebirth it has been all weekend, and it has been a really good weekend so far! Suspect the next many weekends will look the same, with the platinum taking approx 200 hours and being notoriously difficult to get appareantly.
Nothing to do with 'fanboyism' and everything to do with parroting, like i said before.
Yes, there are few very minor things where it doesn't look as great as the rest of the world. But the graphics are still stunningly beautiful, this is even what it says in the article you mentioned....
People are absolutely nitpicking here, it doesn't even remotely look bad, not in performance mode either. Apart from some spots where there is a little bit of bluriness, it's not like you are ven noticing it when you aren't exactly trying to find that.
These issues existed before the patch, for sure, but thye really did fix it with the 1.010 patch, heres a performance mode comparison screenshot to show:
Waa waa game is unplayable cause it doesn't have 8k omega-textures, waaaaah. Like get real, there's few games on the market that look better than this game right now, especially open world ones.
The visual stuff from the demo has been fixed for some time already.
Started on the game few hours ago and it looks insanely beautiful, it's gorgeous especially on graphics mode (if you don't mind 30 fps, on tv it's fine imho), but on performance mode it still ooks beautiful too.
All the 'it doesn't look good' posts are just people parroting eachother without having played the game really.
Microsoft makes $211 billion a year in revenue. Sony makes $91 billion.
Of-course Microsoft is almost double Sony's, but it's not like Sony is a poor company who can't afford some risk or mistakes. People often forget how big sony is in markers outside of Playstation.
For their gaming divisions, i think they are p[retty much on par with eachother.
Good month! Both F123 and Sifu are on my wishlist, so this is gonna save some money They'll both end up in the backlog for a bit but nice to add them both now!
So you're out of arguments (which you kinda didn't have in the first place), then you decide to try and insult me cause you can't take a loss. Way to go dude!
First off, i suggest you look up what the word robbing means in a dictionary, i can give you a hint: Willingly paying for something does not account as 'robbery'.
Noone is holding a gun to your head and telling you to buy the DLC, you can just, you know, not buy it....
I am fine with paying what's essentially 2 coffees on the road for some extra content in a game i like. If you aren't fine with this, then don't.
But don't come here and tell me i am 'feeding' anything, the game is perfectly fine and playable without the DLC and there's nothing 'broken' about it.
Just own up and take your loss, several people in this thread have countered all your 'arguments' with straight facts, there's really no need to start trying to insult people over this.
Spouting more nonsense to hide your other nonsense is not how it works, buddy, that is what we call a strawman fallacy.
First off, as multiple others have mentioned CBU5 can absolutely create 2 DLC's of this size in 8 months. It is 90% asset re-use and really doesn't take long to develop at all. Also, as others have mentioned repeatedly, the first DLC really isn't 'taken from the main story', they are absolutely not relevant to it and it's clear to see this whas a post-product DLC.
So to your new nonsense about the sales being bad. FF16 sold 3 million copies in it's first week, and was nearly the highest selling non-Nintendo title in Japan for 2023. It's doing absolutely fine, the current estimates are it's sitting around 5-6 million copies sold. With few exceptions, almost every mainline FF game ever has sold between 5-10 million copies over it's lifetime. The only exceptions are FF7 (original), and X. No other mainline FF game has sold more than 10 million, and quite a few of them sold less than 5 million. FF16, having been on the market for under a year, is doing completely fine on sales numbers, and if you've really been playing since FF2 times, it shouldn't be new to you that Squex always reports on their numbers ina particular way (they are never happy, not even with the 20 million shipped on FFX).
A DLC like that won't take 2 years of development time, it'd take a few months, especially within a streamlined development unit in a big company like Square Enix. You have absolutely no idea what you're on about if you think a DLC of this size would take 2 years to develop.
Then again, i do wonder if you've even played the game after reading your '40 hours + 20 hours cutscenes' comment. Likely you're just on the 'hate things for no reason because i think it make me looks cool' bandwagon.
Bit late to the party, but i needed something to fill the gap between finishing Infinite Wealth last week and FF7R release. So i booted up the ol' AC valhalla and played the stuff i hadn't done yet. Siege of Paris was pretty fun, as where the puzzle tombs they added. I then started on Dawn of Ragnarök and am blown away! It's like a whole different game, with some very fun new mechanics and an absolutely gorgeous play world. Will be having fun with this for the whole week until the FF7R release.

Absolute deserved top 3!
Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?
I don't mind 30 FPS so much. I grew up with PAL screens on 25FPS interlace and could game fine back then too, claiming i suddenly couldn't now would be a bit idiotic.
For some games i do set it to performance mode (e.g. Helldivers, in shooters the extra FPS actually helps) but for most i go with 30FPS quality mode.
Re: Diablo 4 Season 4 Could Boast the Game's Biggest Improvements So Far
Meh, i'm over D4 and de-installed it, not planning on installing it again.
Campaign was fun, 'endgame' was fun for a little bit but then became super boring due to bad decisions at Blizzard.
In the middle of so many players leaving and all the issues the game had, they decided to aggravate people more by releasing multiple €40/$40 store mounts in a €70 game...
Made me lose the last tiny sliver of respect i had for Blizzard, and i'm now fully free of their games and intend to stay that way.
Re: Free Skins and New Game+ for Stellar Blade After PS5 Launch
I never understood, and never will understand, why people care about skins and appeareances in single player games...
In MP i can still understand some of it, because you want to look (semi-)unique in a world full of other players, but why is this a thing in SP games?
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for March 2024?
I think this is the first month where i'm not downloading any of the games (extra), really not interested in any of them.
But i'm also realistic and realise months like these can happen, not everyone likes the same thing, and other people might love these games.
There'll be other months where i get stuff i like again.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Don't do it often, but i'm giving this a 10.
The game feels absolutely perfect and i loved every second of it, still working on the last few achievements for the platinum, which is also properly hard.
The music is gorgeous, the story stays mostly true but i do love the additions they made on it. The game looks beautiful too.
I think there is a LOT of sidecontent for those of us who enjoy it, but they also made it so people who don't want to can skip the most of it.
If you do however enjoy it, apart from 1 or 2 minigames the quality of that is also really good.
Re: 13 New Games Land on PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Hmm, this is the first time i'thinking 'what a load of crap' for the extra tier
Ah well, other people might find these fun, and i already had my whole year extra worth out of it already in month 6.
More time to work on the backlog!
Re: Enjoy 18 Minutes of Dragon's Dogma 2 Magick Archer PS5 Gameplay
@Loamy
Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Uncapped Frame Rate Put to the Test on PS5, Preview Build Averages 31fps
@ZhuckelDror
Re: Enjoy 18 Minutes of Dragon's Dogma 2 Magick Archer PS5 Gameplay
@Loamy
Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for March and April 2024
These are some quality games!
Not all of them are my cup of tea, but some really good titles are there.
I'll only add Dragon's Dogma into my wishlist as i'm still playing FF7Rebirth and there's already like 15 games i'm planning to play this year.
Glad there's a few months coming where i'm only adding 1 game to my wish to play
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 518
@Mintie
All Yakuza games, wow that is amassive undertaking!
Props to you sir.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 518
FFVII Rebirth it has been all weekend, and it has been a really good weekend so far!
Suspect the next many weekends will look the same, with the platinum taking approx 200 hours and being notoriously difficult to get appareantly.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
@KundaliniRising333

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
@KundaliniRising333
Re: Horizon Dev Reportedly Loses 10% of Staff After PlayStation Layoffs
@Sanquine
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for March 2024 Announced
Good month!
Both F123 and Sifu are on my wishlist, so this is gonna save some money They'll both end up in the backlog for a bit but nice to add them both now!
Re: Second Final Fantasy 16 DLC Set to Be Revealed Next Month
@Neptunes
Re: Second Final Fantasy 16 DLC Set to Be Revealed Next Month
@neptunes
Re: Second Final Fantasy 16 DLC Set to Be Revealed Next Month
@Neptunes
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 517
