I personally have never got the hype behind the game, it's a very good RPG, but it lacks any real depth and doesn't so anything that games like Zelda and Elder Scrolls haven't already done (and better) already. That said, I do go back to it occasionally and have enjoyed my recent excursion it's just an 8/10 game for me.
The simple fact is 99% of console owners will never even touch an expensive racing wheel and the devs have made the game compatible with a controller first and foremost so why review the game with a wheel for a target audience of about 100 people of that?
Of course it's the best way to play, but it should also be perfectly playable on a joypad. I've got the game and have to say a 5 is very harsh as it controls ok on a pad, but it's not a game for the faint of heart granted. A wheel is an enhancement but not a necessity.
I'm not too surprised, if anything dodgy is gonna happen it'll probably involved CEX! If this was the Neo I'd be there by now, but PS Slim? nah, think I'll pass..! lol
Bloody hell children! I appreciate the advantage of using a wheel when playing games, but this is ridiculous! Such vile comments made to the reviewer because of a low score, have you heard yourselves?!
You may have a fancy 3K wheel, but are you sat in a replica car chasis that's been placed on actual tarmac for that true authentic driving feel? of course not, no game can ever be a truly realistic driving experience, so just enjoy them for the entertainment that they are.
I love a good sim as much as the next man but saying you're a 'hardcore gamer' because you play a game with a wheel? gimmie a break!
There's some reviews I don't agree with on this site, but it's all about opinions as has been stated. Some of the comments I've read on here have been bang out of order and written by children it seems.
I'll give this game a go because I'm looking for a new sim racer after DIRT and it seems more authentic than Project Cars, so I'll judge for myself if a 5 is the right score in my opinion.
A great, fair review thanks. I personally believe the game is a 9 and GOTY as there's nothing that has rivalled it's addictive mining/space exploration gameplay loop for me in 2016 thus far. But I appreciate a game with such technical issues as forced console crashing has to be criticised.
But I agree with all the negative points here too. It's not a perfect game, as much as I love it; it can get repetitive and has a steep learning curve at the start, but I think the average reviews so far are extremely harsh and see to have been written by COD kids that need a story and massive battles to be able to enjoy a game.
It's clearly not a game for everyone, but it's such an incredible, addictive technical marvel that everyone should at least give it a chance.
@kendomustdie Ooh interesting thanks! so Nobunaga is the better, more involved, strategic battle game of the two then? I got Nobunaga at launch but never got into it, I keep meaning to give it another go but then I read this and was all like "another game like it?! oh oh.." lol
@mrobinson91 The controls are dated, no question. But it's still a classic game and has perhaps the best controls in the entire series, alongside the modern games like Revelations. Believe me, the controls were worse in the classic RE4!
@JoeBlogs The game pretty much is locked at 60fps, I've not seen any noticeable gestate drops yet and I'm almost halfway through currently. The graphics are still pretty good even by today's standards too, I'd recommend you at least give it a try at some point Or wait for RE4 if you prefer the survival horror over all out action.
@JoeBlogs It's a fun game even played on your own. It's not quite up to RE4 standards, but the faster pace and new additions and improvements to gameplay are all welcome additions and add to what was becoming dated. RE6 went and undid all of the hard work of the previous 2 games then, but this was truly the last great Resi game to me.
A very harsh review! It's not a perfect game but it's perhaps the biggest nostalgia trip to the great KOTOR I've had in the past decade. Enjoyable combat that offers some fresh ideas but still remains familiar enough. The story isn't amazing but the gameplay and combat especially is varied and great fun. I'd give it an 8 personally, but still thanks for the review as always!
This is a fantastic game! I've been addicted to it since launch day The UI is a little fiddly, but you can get round it by pausing time in the game while still issuing orders if necessary. But it's such a great nudes for a game and so well executed, minor control issues aside. A true addictive joy to play, a good 9 or even 10/10 for me!
@FullbringIchigo The strongly rumoured specs for the Neo aren't as powerful as the Scorpio though. The best thing Sony could do is bulk up the Neo hardware as a counter.
I thought it was pretty average. A laughable new console, some decent games but noting spectacular for me, ReCore looked a bit dull but Scale bound is definitely a GOTY candidate, reminds me of Dragons Dogma.
Then the Scorpio announcement...that single handedly saved the show for me, what an amazing end! It's a phenomenal unrivaled console powerhouse, Sony just have to get enough sales and popularity garnered before its release to convince gamers that the cheaper, popular option of PS4 is the better choice.
There's only 3 games in this list I'd consider worthy of a top 10 (U4, DOOM and Odin Sphere), I think I'm a bit underwhelmed by games so far this year! lol
It's difficult to compile a top 10 as I forget if certain games were released in the past 6 months or not lol but I'll give it a go..
10. Dungeons 2 9. RBI Baseball 8. DIRT Rally 7. Oxenfree 6. Not a Hero 5. Valkyria Chronicles 4. Battle Worlds Kronos 3. DOOM 2. Mirrors Edge (after playing the game via EA Access/Xbone this week) 1. Odin Sphere
Trying to get my City FIFA 16 career finished off (up to 2022 now!), but bought Oxenfree, Dead Island and Dragon Quest Heroes so will be giving them a go too. Thankfully I'm off work on Monday and Tuesday too!
Games support goes live in October and the rumoured Xbox Scorpio will be a huge threat within the next 18 months, so I think it would be crazy for Sony not to announce the Neo now so as to get as much hype behind it as possible over the next few months and what better place to do that than at the world's biggest gaming event?
Great review. The Japanese demo was a definite 9 for me though, I've never been so impressed and enthralled by a 2D game before (perhaps Sonic 2, but that's not quite the same genre here is it lol), very addictive, simple yet also deep combat and gorgeous visuals, it's a PSN pre-order for me!
I thought Dying Light was a step backwards with its botched stamina system that basically allows you to swing 2 hits before becoming gassed; Dead Island is just a much much fun game to me and a 6 is definitely harsh.
But I'm surprised no mention of a performance upgrade has been mentioned here? The main glaring issue of the originals on PS3 was the often terrible, nursery framerate, yet these remasters from what I've played so far seem much more smoother experiences.
@MinerWilly Lol yeah! I can't deny the beta I played was vastly more fun than Battlefront has ever been for me though and I'm still tempted by it. I'm gonna try resist the urge to get it til it's on sale though and at least DLC has been released.
The game is great fun, but with any game with such limited content should never be getting a 9 score to me.
MOBA's in general are quite shallow, but this in particular is like releasing a COD/BF game and limiting the number of maps, players and game modes. There would be outrage if that happened on those games! It's great fun to play though, just needs to practically double the maps, characters and game modes to be a plausible full price title for me.
I don't expect length from a hack and slash game so I've let it off and taken the plunge despite reviews. It's actually pretty good fun so far, I think alot of reviews have been overly harsh. It's not gonna win GOTY but great for bursts of action fun
I've ignored the reviews and stumped for the new Turtles game to sate my new hack and slash urge lol I've bought Dungeons 2 also after seeing it on Twitch, not enough RTS games on console! I'll hope to start playing Valkyria Chronicles again too this weekend and the obligatory post-season editing of FIFA begins too lol
I enjoyed the beta (the clown character I loved lol) but didn't think it would offer enough to hold my attention. The insanely positive reviews have swayed my head though so I'm contemplating giving it a go. I just find it mind boggling how many games have been slated for lack of content (Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefront), yet this seems to be ignored with the scores for Overwatch.
They're gonna have to produce a shedload more maps, modes and characters for DLC to make this worth it long-term cos currently it's not really a full priced game to me.
I'm still 50/50 about whether Overwatch will be able to hold my attention long-term, I'll wait for review
This weekend has been FIFA (as always lol got Bury in the Premier league now! lol) and loads of demos off the Japanese store, Odin Sphere and Grand Kingdom are great fun!
I need to get back into VC too, loved that game on PS3!
Amazing game; a 9 is exactly what I'd give it too. It stick to the simple gameplay of classic Doom but makes it fresh and just as fun with some cool new additions
Amazing game; a 9 is exactly what I'd give it too. It stick to the simple gameplay of classic Doom but makes it fresh and just as fun with some cool new additions
I expected a higher score to be honest, the game just looks sooo tempting and intriguing to me! The combat isn't revolutionary but the setting and some features are new to open world games and it seems now like how The Division should've been to me.
I've no doubt it'll get repetitive though so I'll probably get it when the price drops.
I only played a bit but f this game on the PS3 as I found it really easy and it put me off. I wish I'd stuck with it as I relished the short amount of time I spent with it and have been waiting excitedly to play this HD version for months now It's an amazing game and I'll be scowering the PSN store for the pre-order!
Argh! I've only just completed the main questline of the regular game Bethesda! lol I may give this a shot with a new character, though I suspect Dark Souls level frustration lol
I shall add to the chorus here and say "interesting" Shall see how fun they can make it with the limited weaponry of the era, but I'll definitely be excited if they make it at least vaguely historically accurate. Trench warfare online would be a new experience!
I know I'm waaaay late to the party where but I finally picked this up on the Store and am really impressed.
I've been 50/50 about Dark Souls 3 due to the difficulty and to call this 'Dark Souls Lite' would be doing it an injustice, but it definitely feels like a more accessible and enjoyable clone of that series. The gameplay and mechanics are virtually identical but loading tines aren't bad and the difficulty is slightly more forgiving so I'm gonna give it a go. I've got Dark Souls 3 and Nioh on my radar though still
@Ambient_Malice Are you seriously comparing Dragon's Dogma to RE6?! lol! Dragon's Dogma is a masterpiece that is an example of how stamina can be used effectively and tactically in a game; in RE6 you literally can throw 3 kicks before you're totally vulnerable. It's not realistic or fun and just adds to an already painfully mediocre at best game.
Got this earlier today and from first impressions I'm already enjoying it more than The Show 16! That game has all the polish and is feature-rich, but it's so overly complex! I don't think even hardcore baseball fans could fully appreciate the batting mechanics in that game! That said, it is still a decent game, just wish some of its mechanics were simplified.
...which is exactly what RBI does! 2-3 buttons used at most, responsive AI on fielding, simple batting and fielding controls, it's easy to pick up and play for even the most casual fan.
I enjoy watching baseball and The Show definitely has the better presentation and RBi suffers a painful lack of modes, not even a practice mode exists! But for fun gameplay I'd pick RBI every time.
I warned myself not to buy this when it came out, I'd somehow survived Leon's campaign last gen and knew that was the best the game could ever offer me, but being the typical impulse buying gamer and huge Resi Evil nut that I am, I got this HD version anyway! :/
Can't disagree with anything you've said, great review as always! I've played through the first level with Leon and that's enough this time round. Melee attacks are waaay overpowered (literally stronger than bullets), but you have all the stamina of an asthmatic ant carrying a piano on its back, so after one devastating combo you're kicking like Kimbo Slice by the 3rd round of an MMA fight.
I can't wait for Resident Evil 4 and 5 next though, both great games and pinnacles of last gen's era (4 especially). It's such a terrible shame the series went so off track with this madness! Hopefully they'll restore things with RE7 and the RE2 remake.
It's a sad state of affairs when consoles begin truly emulating PC upgrading and I don't agree with the business model of Sony here, which I believe will cost them fans, at least short term.
However, as a gamer I can't help but be fickle and want the biggest and best console gaming has to offer and anything that offers better graphics/performance/loading times/etc alone could be tempting. The fact is that the PS4 and Xbone aren't powerful enough to play games on close to the way they were intended.
I've never been a fan of the Souls series and this doesn't look like the game that will change my opinion on it alas, but I'm sure it'll still be mega popular
Am I the only one here tempted to get this game based on its actual gameplay then..? lol
I've been looking for an RPG that has a semi-turn based combat dynamic like this one seems to have for a while now. Something a bit slower and tactical than Dragon Age but not fully turn based either. Are there any other RPG's out there with a similar system?
This though does bring me on @Riririn to finding myself living proof against your quite bizarre assumption that everyone who would play this game would do so purely to ogle some computer characters within and are basement-dwelling loners with no hope or even wish of obtaining a partner. I'd be insulted if I didn't find it so funny! lol
I've never heard of the series before today and I can't say I've ever found a game character sexy before either lol I can appreciate that there are people who will though and can perhaps see why Jade would have felt a bit uncomfortable perhaps playing a game littered with innuendos and scantily clad anime girls. It wouldn't be my first choice for characters, but personally such things wouldn't even register to me as a gamer as I'm there for the gameplay and perhaps the story if it's a good one, I couldn't care less if the game included certain characters for fan services for a certain fan demographic as long as they weren't doing anything illegal or really dodgy lol

@Kyrul6959 I'd probably rank my top 8 Resi games in order of greatness as:
1. Resident Evil 4
2. Resident Evil/REmake
3. Resident Evil 5
4. Resident Evil 2
5. Resident Evil 3
6. Resident Evil Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles
7. Resident Evil Code Veronica
8. Resident Evil Revelations 1

@JoeBlogs this game is easily an 8/10 still now though..
Re: Review: The Technomancer (PS4)
@starhops Nope it doesn't.
Re: Review: The Technomancer (PS4)
A very harsh review! It's not a perfect game but it's perhaps the biggest nostalgia trip to the great KOTOR I've had in the past decade. Enjoyable combat that offers some fresh ideas but still remains familiar enough. The story isn't amazing but the gameplay and combat especially is varied and great fun. I'd give it an 8 personally, but still thanks for the review as always!

Re: Rumour: PS4K Will Cost $399, Will Feature 4K Blu-ray, and Will Boast Better Graphics
Re: Review: Dark Souls III (PS4)
I've never been a fan of the Souls series and this doesn't look like the game that will change my opinion on it alas, but I'm sure it'll still be mega popular
Re: Review: Megadimension Neptunia VII (PS4)
Am I the only one here tempted to get this game based on its actual gameplay then..? lol
I've been looking for an RPG that has a semi-turn based combat dynamic like this one seems to have for a while now. Something a bit slower and tactical than Dragon Age but not fully turn based either. Are there any other RPG's out there with a similar system?
This though does bring me on @Riririn to finding myself living proof against your quite bizarre assumption that everyone who would play this game would do so purely to ogle some computer characters within and are basement-dwelling loners with no hope or even wish of obtaining a partner. I'd be insulted if I didn't find it so funny! lol
I've never heard of the series before today and I can't say I've ever found a game character sexy before either lol
I can appreciate that there are people who will though and can perhaps see why Jade would have felt a bit uncomfortable perhaps playing a game littered with innuendos and scantily clad anime girls.
