120fps games are dropping frames on Series X currently, so I'm not sure how effective or vital VRR really is? I'm not about to buy an LG CX for insane money so I can get little benefit from it along with OLED burn in! lol
I'm getting the Series X tomorrow and PS5 next week. Based on the superior loading times, I plan to switch over to Xbox for current gen games and play all the next gen games on PS5, for the same reason 😁 I just hope to dear lordy all future games do load faster on PS5..! 😝😁
I'm just desperately waiting for someone to at least be able to confirm all of these games will load faster than the Series X version. I can just about take 1000's of current gen games loading faster on the Xbox, but if future games do too, then Cerny has a lot of answer for with the SSD! 😁
@East76landS yeah, the war of the chosen expansion does make it better, with longer times and even missions that aren't timed at all. But the fact they exist makes a tough game already really frustrating!
Great review thanks! I've been 50/50 about picking this up as I still play F1 2017 and wasn't sure there was enough of an improvement still lol I have a big question though please..I know the optional racing to get more resource points are in the game still, but are they the same as in F1 2019 (ie. annoying distractions lol), or are they integrated into the practice/qualifying this year?
@East76landS XCOM games are the bar for the genre to aim at in my opinion. XCOM 2 lost it's way with timed missions and other gameplay features, but it's still a fine game and it's prequel is still the best tactical game ever made I think. I never got in to Wastelands 2, but 3 is looking promising so far
@Nakatomi_Uk It's the best campaign in the series IMO, maybe second only to COD2. I'd give it a 9/10 for the campaign personally, it's full of personality and action! MP doesn't interest me either, can't imagine it's anything outstanding but it may be one of the few COD games to change MP with the change of setting.
I was beginning to think it was just me! I'm guessing the Xbox version doesn't suffer then? I wanted the old Mafia games on my PS4, trophies and all, as I've previously owned them on Xbox and PC and was pretty horrified by the very noticeable fps drops if you move the camera more than 2 degrees! The Xbox 360 version HD upscale on Xbox One that I have plays flawlessly, albeit at 30fps, so I'm doubly disappointed in this! I hope it gets patched soon cos the fps dips are very off-putting during gameplay!
@Ridwaano really? the X is faster typically, but I found even when both consoles have SSD in external bays, my PS4 Pro loads games faster than my X model 90% of the time. I have no clue why, it defies logic really! lol
@ChipBoundary agressively patronising someone else is hyperbole and sarcasm now? Did you sleep through English lessons at school? have you even left school yet..? lol Damn lad, show me on this doll where latency hurt you...! lol You seem awfully agressive and confident for someone who is now just waffling nonsense, I mean I suggested to increase latency somewhere in my post..?! Take some deep breaths kid, latency isnt something worth crying about
@Ridwaano not compatible? many tech sites even offered guides on how to do it back in the day! I've had SSD in multiple PS4's and never had an issue with any of them going back years now. I'd recommend it!
This looks like a game that will benefit heavily from the PS5's SSD hopefully
@JohnnyShoulder it runs identically on Switch and PS4 Pro in my experience, so am sure base PS4 will be fine! The only noticeable lag is 2-3 second pause as the game autosaves, but you can turn this off or delay it.
I've been playing this since launch on PS4 and Switch, it's nothing short of addictive masterpiece! every bit as amazing as Theme Hospital, easily a 9 or even a 10! GOTY for me so far on pure addictiveness alone
@munkondi respectfully, a "real gamer" is someone who loves playing all kinds of games and is devoted to the hobby, they dont have to be good. Otherwise every hardcore and real gamer would be a 13 year old playing COD online.
@OneManDroid Your love for the game is inspiring to me The demo (and indeed original game) feel smoother and more responsive than FROMSoft games, which was a major plus! but I still find the difficulty too unforgiving. I may give it a try when it goes on sale, but I dont find constantly dying to be fun to be honest lol I'm an old man of 36, give me an easy life! lol Although regarding stances...every youtube video I've watched so far just use high stance throughout!
@ChipBoundary I understand latency you muppet! You issue such moronic, blasé statements as "there's technical limitations called physics", yet I'm the one with a failed education here..?
Of course you can never get perfection with latency, but you can get it down to a virtually unnoticeable level with good software and hardware. I've used PS Now and XCloud and honestly didnt notice many lag hiccups on either. Digital and streaming are the future, thats just obvious. Now go get some ice and calm yourself down lol
@ChipBoundary what has physics gotta go with streaming over the internet? lol Hate to break it to ya, but with PS Now and XCloud, streaming is the future whether you wanna believe it or not
@ShogunRok thanks alot! How is Xenoverse a better game may I ask? Xenoverse seems more like a Dragonstone-esque arena fighter, while Kagarot is more a fleshed out RPG to me, would that be a fair judgement?
I'd previously dismissed Xenoverse as I thought it would end up being quite shallow and lacking in longevity, I'm guessing from your gameplay recommendation this isn't the case?
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Oh, my bad, I didn't translate "everything is downhill from here" as "not as good as one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time". Silly me... 😁
I'm gonna give it a go anyway, it's by the team that created Banjo Kazooie! which is still to this day the beat platformer ever made in my eyes. I don't know a 3D ever made where the camera hasn't interfered at some point, but I'm confident all the mentioned issues will be fixed with patches soon. It's a shame sites don't do post-patch score updates.
@AcesCharles I'm all for differing opinions, I think you should be addressing the person I was replying to.. Personally I find Horizon more fun to play too, but the better actual 'game' is Zelda in my opinion.
@ShogunRok Thanks Robert, great review as always, I was waiting for this! I'm still a bit on the fence with this one though, it looks fun from what I've seen of it so far, but I am a bit concerned that it'll become repetitive, a la Dynasty Warriors?
The clips I've seen tend to be spamming of the same combos, so I also wanna ask if is there any variety in combat? magic abilities too? what are the different sword styles you mentioned?
@Boerewors It baffles me how people think PES plays better than FIFA. It can be argued the game is more responsive, but for realism, physics and fun in my opinion FIFA is in a totally different league. The AI in PES is improved this year thankfully but it's still lacking at times.
You mention 2K, which I've had issues with over the years perhaps ironically. I'm glad they're back in form with 2K17 from what nice played of it so far, though my main issue still remains, that being the game going through 'scripted' motions when players face up, losing that sense of control and flow as a result for me. Still a great game, just not perfect.
This year's FIFA is a change from the last and has taken some getting used to, but it's all for the better so far and I've not even touched the Journey mode yet! A great game, worthy of a 9 at least in my opinion but I understand in the current anti-EA climate no one is ever gonna review it that high
@Anchorsam_9 that is a frustration with FIFA I agree with, defenders gaining super pace sometimes was a pain. Though I found it to be a rare occurrence and it seems to happen a little less now judging from the FIFA 17 demo.
@KAPADO Lol no sarcasm my friend, as someone who has watched football for over 25 years I cannot relate to the ridiculous speed and 'one man can beat 7 players' mentality of the average game of PES. I couldn't care less about licensing, I think it's become the fashion to go against EA and jump on the PES bandwagon, being the 'underdog' vs the 'evil corporate giant'.. It's a decent game and I admire the customisation available, both tactical and off the field, but the AI isn't up to pat to allow said tactics to come to fruition and as a result it's still in FIFA's shadow for me for realistic gameplay.
I'm still not converted back to PES judging from playing the PES 2017 demo, but it did feel more realistic and fun than last year and the gap between this and FIFA has been closed at least. FIFA is still the one to beat for me though for realism, physics, AI and overall immersion. I feel like I'm watching/playing a real football match in FIFA and PES just doesn't create that feeling and FIFA looks to have gotten even better this year. That said, PES 2017 looks like the best game in the series for quite a few years and I'll pick it up on sale definitely.
@Quintumply @get2sammyb I'm deeply concerned that you guys may not have played this game the way it was meant to be! If you had ingested LSD I'm positive it would have got a 10! I'm boycotting your site now until you come in line with the other professional reviewers out there and have a supply of class A drugs readily available for such game reviews!
I am kinda interested in getting this but feared it was just a poor man's Toukiden Kiwami. After seeing more footage and reading this review however...it still seems to be a poor man's Toukiden Kiwami Looks fun though so I'll surely get it when it goes on sale.

Re: PS Plus June 2020 PS4 Game Announced
@Uni_hater try downloading it from your Library, see if that solves it. If not, I'd guess it won't 'unlock' for download until June.
Re: PS Plus June 2020 PS4 Game Announced
@PJ5 it's the best COD campaign since COD 2 though.
Re: PS Plus June 2020 PS4 Game Announced
@Sooryakiran I own Days Gone and can confidently say you don't really lol not a bad game but it's an average 7 for me.
Re: PS Plus June 2020 PS4 Game Announced
@Clemerek I completed campaign twice, it's not massive but it's longer than that. I'd estimate 8-9 hours.
