Oh wow so let’s squeeze more pixels out of this PS4 game yay! How about they develop a non cross generational full GT8 for the PS5. Then focus on making a good targeted 4k experience on the PS5. Nothing special new hardware running older software.

@Rambo-kind gamers whom are mostly men like female characters whom are attractive by worldly standards especially for fantasy games. Have since the beginning. Like you said men don’t like the loud and in charge characters that the Anglo world loves to produce. For somewhat historical period pieces the blokes including myself don’t like the infusion of modern practices into something that is supposed to be a period piece. The reality is that throughout the ages war has almost exclusively been the province of men. Even today only men are required to fight when things get rough despite equality under the law. Japanese history has so many warriors stories that could be told whom are blokes.

Wish there was another bloke as the main character for this type of game. I’ll pass.

@Lexluther23 the pro will be used longer than a year or two. As many will use it will into the PS6 launch. Judging by how the PS4 is still relevant. Unless Sony completely changes the mindset for PS6 and does not cross gen games which I truly hope for. Then I think your estimate would be correct.

If people are silly enough to sign up for this that is on them. 10K could be used for ones gaming needs for many years to come. One could even buy two launch PS6s then keep one sealed to sell for later. It’s a personal problem if someone uses these services.

@Malaise i vehemently disagree. Governments are already so large. We don’t need the biggest voting base deciding what we can buy. Responsibility and accountability comes with being an adult. From a legal standpoint these scalpers are just offering a middleman or consulting service. With your proposal, therapists/psychologists should be banned too since they cannot guarantee to fix anyone’s problems.

@Czar_Khastik and the Xbox series s would still be blamed for its poor performance on the PS3 as holding this generation back.

@NEStalgia I always get roasted for this but I believe they need to spend the money again to make a real bespoke console. One that has enough overhead to last 8 years. Yes this is a pricey strategy. But it’s needed to avoid these weak sauce SOCs that have been the PS4 and PS5. So no pros for a console generation. Early adopters would just pay a higher price like usual but make the games that showcase the potential of a new stronger platform that aren’t cross generation. Then people will adopt them. Either way I’ll still be a console gamer as there are just certain games I want to play in front of a big TV instead of a monitor.

It’s up to the consumer to educate himself. My dad always told us to do our research. And many premium electronic brands do provide more measurable value through metrics compared to a normal brand, beyond just a name. I’m really into audio and good equipment does provide value. Of course one can go down a rabbit hole and keep upgrading. As past a certain point one has to decide if the gains are worth it.

@SilentBluntman yes Sony makes good products. Their TVs for example hold their own in this competitive industry. My dad has a cool stereo system that he bought in the 90s that still works. In the 90s and early 2000s it was common for laser disc drives to go out. As the technology was still new and the laser wasn’t constantly in read mode. DVD players during the time had these issues as well. Compound this with the fact that consoles are cheap for what they are bringing to the table. PS1 and PS2 especially.

@jrt87 im saying the pro isn’t a cash grab because its just a higher trim of an existing product. In which there is a market for. Don’t forget the goal of any business is to make money no matter the industry. And Sony isnt a nonprofit agency. They are a hardware company at heart. Sure the LE pro has a stronger argument for cash grab as they are using nostalgia to lure people. But it’s an anniversary edition for the brand. Every brand does this. Every brand has super fans whom place immense value on these special editions. Not a problem for what people want to spend their money on. Again a base PS5 is still being mass produced.

@jrt87 they are barely making any of the LE pros. So they can get away with it. As there are millions of PS fans. This is what a true special edition looks like. More exclusive. Which will make the value very high for those whom like to collect things.

@NEStalgia the pro is no more a cash grab than PC GPUs coming out so often. Just so people can have more pixels and graphical fidelity via brute force since PC needs it. And many justify their purchase by showing that current or old game x can run at 1,000 fps. The pro is for those that want newer tech that is more flashy. The console market is just following the phone and PC market. I see no problem here. And of course they are into the development cycle of the PS6. That’s just how R&D works. Still years away.

Sonys electronics are expensive because they are good and quality. Their TVs especially. Sony is a premium electronic brand. But there are plenty of normal brands like vizio and insert Chinese brand here. Luxury lifestyle examples for electronics are McIntosh, Bang and Olufsen.

PS brand does have prestige worldwide. With prestige a brand can lure people in on name alone. And this is what the PS has. Sure we can all protest about how it’s being ran now. But I’m confident the Japanese will turn it around.

@thefourfoldroot1 developers hold the series s back mate. People need to stop repeating that as that isn’t how development works. Series s is current generation with “current” console tech. The reality is that this generation was/is held back by the Xbox one and PS4.

And so what? Sony is a hardware company and needs its own ecosystem to survive. PC gamers have a multitude of games to play anyways.

@Deadlyblack well PC gamers can always buy a console? They always say console gamers should buy a PC. Sony is a hardware company and needs its ecosystem to survive. Microsoft wins either way as PCs use their operating system software. And more money in their pocket when Xbox games go on the platform.

@trev666 for the games that Nintendo makes less raw power is okay. The trend that Sony and Microsoft set is more power the past two decades. Allowing for more ambitious console titles. And fans of the PS and Xbox expect these games each generation. I like Nintendo and I’m not hating on them. But Sony and MS suddenly going to underpowered systems for the present day would be a negative for them. Of course optimization play a big role but power is power.

@armondo36 early adopters for any generation of product will miss out on a fresh during a products midlife refresh.

I seriously hope that those that want the pro special edition get it. Since it’s limited. I suspect the base is to some degree also. I hope since it will be on PS direct that some scalper conglomerates don’t get anything.

I wish Sony should give more love to its other IPs which didn't make it past the PS3 generation. Spend the money to modernize those to fill this void of lack of bespoke PS5 games for this current generation. Horizon was fine when it launched on the PS4. It was a great tech demo from very competent Guerilla.

SE will still fail to meet their expectations going on the Xbox, also considering time spent to make a build for that system. Most of the user base for Xbox doesn’t care for these types of East Asian games. Historically PlayStation is home to these types of games. From the days when Sony treated the PS as a Japanese machine and not mostly western.

I wish they would just add the strider class back to the game like in DD1. As I liked having a bow and dagger attacks early on.

I don’t know why people were expecting this game to be a huge hit among the PlayStation base. PlayStation and Xbox tend to have a more “serious” console base. Meaning less people interested in the Nintendo style of games. For the record I’m not hating on these types of games at all as there is a market for them too. Just not so big on PS. I guess people thought the drought of first party games would lead people to buy this just because of PS studios on the box. Little big planet was the same despite it also being a good game series.

I haven’t enjoyed a battlefield game since the bad company games for the PS3/X360. The maps were great with true destruction befitting the modern theme.

Hopefully the next consoles have an impressive CPU. As I expect games to become more CPU intensive. Especially if specialized procedural generation is used to supplement gameplay (AI). The next xbox is rumored to be impressive and launch first. The next generation of consoles needs to launch as powerhouses with a lot of head room for years to come. Especially as more people have 4K tvs at home.

@Rob3008 We aren't at peak technology for the consoles. Will likely never be anymore. As the cost that consumers are willing to pay is the biggest bottleneck. As people seriously don't understand how much raw power is needed to go from HD to 4K, even for the same graphics or game so to speak. Couple that with the fact that people expect games to look better too.

@Bamila i have a feeling it will fail. Rumors are that pre-orders have been lower than expected at retailers. I don’t feel sorry for Ubisoft as they messed themselves up these past few years. Now I do have sympathy for the backlash against the main character. As Ubisoft was a victim to the false information on the person in real life. I read that the Japanese people said that person was real but never was a samurai but merely a sword bearer. Which means just carrying equipment for a lord during those times. But even before this game was announce. I remember seeing information on the internet about this samurai with a darker skin texture package. And i thought okay that’s interesting and thought nothing of it. Turned out it wasn’t accurate. Revisionist history is never good for anyone IMO. Sorry I digress.

@Boxmonkey Sony is in a good position because Microsoft isn't running their Xbox brand well. Sony still has plenty of good grace left from the PS3/PS4 era. Although this old prestige will run out.

@johnedwin by roots IMO, it means making more games across many genres. Not everything needs to be a large game.

I don't think the PlayStation audience is so big for this type of game compared to Nintendo. I think many people set such high expectations for this game. Due to the fact that we have a drought of current generation only exclusives from Sony.

@Ainu20 Perhaps many gamers in general aren't into this type of game on PlayStation. I think the game will break even and generate some profit. Not every game will be huge even exclusives. In the earlier days of consoles many games were launched by first parties and third parties. Then there were big hits.

@Loamy GTA 6 will be very successful among the large bulk of casual gamers. The people that like to play the titles don't care about performance as the game is fun. FPS for GTA's IMO was never the issue for this game.

@OldGamer999 Hopefully the next generations of consoles don't have weak sauce CPUs. They will need strong beefy CPUs and developers will need to fully embrace multicore games. As graphics are good now but the next evolution of games is more advanced in game features in which AI can enhance. This will require more CPU power.

@LogicStrikesAgain Yea exactly. Its developers that design the games around the hardware. 60 FPS is achievable for all consoles if developers design for it from the ground up. Of course that means compromises for a games vision.

The game will be fine overall. People need to stop expecting everything to be huge over night. As long as a game is profitable and a company makes money all is well. And I’m sure they made their money back if they didn’t already. As the studio is small and the time frame for development good. Not everything is going to be big, life doesn’t work like that. This is why the entertainment industry is lame these days as everyone is chasing huge. With a 0 or 100 mindset in regard to success. We need more middle games. This just isn’t my type of game.

The reality is that manufacturing post cough era is still expensive. Which is why no significant price drops have happened for these SOCs over the past few years. If Sony made the console cheaper, they would loose money on the new production line opened up for these. Remember almost all of the semiconductors come from China and Taiwan. Demand didn’t go down for them throughout the cough era either so there was a backlog. So prices are what they are. Besides Microsoft is making a 600$ series X to put things into perspective. So the pro is a good deal for those that want it. People need to stop being dramatic about this move by Sony. The real issue we all care about is lack of current generation games.

Depends on the game for me. For example I play the Witcher 3 on fidelity mode. 30 fps for that game was no problem for me on last generation and I can still play it at 30 fps. I just enjoyed how beautiful the world is for that game on fidelity. For shooters I have played in performance mode for both consoles.

@NeonMullet im an older millennial but i never felt tied to anyone ecosystem no matter the industry or product. I buy what is best after I do my research. I buy both Xbox and PS because I liked when they really had different ideologies as far as games go. Competition used to be good. I’ll be getting a pro also because I just prefer to play most games in front of my TV. I use my PC for strategy games most and serious shooters like the Arma series. If you built your own PC or paid someone else to do it you would avoid the anti-plug and play. But it’s just a matter of how you prefer to game.

What are they talking about? There is a 600$ special edition series x coming out soon which doesn’t add more transistors to the SOC for processing power. The PS5 Pro is in line with present manufacturing costs i reckon. Let us not forgot how the cough era delayed production of semiconductors which are almost all made in China and Taiwan, all while demand increased. Also let us look at the competition. The switch is still priced a certain way as are the Xbox consoles. If Sony made the pro too cheap then they would not re-coup on this new production line and new SOC R/D plus procurement.

@Rjak agreed mate. Even with the lowest job in any country on, a person should still be able to afford a roof over their head and food.

@Westernwolf4 With the way things are tracking. The best Sony games will come out when the PS6 PRO is out. So those that buy a PS5 PRO will get very good use out of it and not feel inclined to get a PS6. Unless Sony is forced to make a really strong base PS6 because the next Xbox is alleged to be a significant leap.

@jrt87 If you took that as a humble brag then so be it. I understand that people have disposable income. Hence the success of the west and all of the excess. Plus time for people to complain about vanity goods. All I'm saying is that people need to stop complaining about the prices of things in this hobby industry. People should stick to whatever budget they have and not bemoan that a new console is coming out for gamers that want more powerful hardware the base that was designed 5+ years ago. People are really overreacting to this whole PS5 Pro.

@NeonMullet I didn't take it that way mate. There are die hard fans for every corporation on the earth. There are apple fans that buy the products no matter what, there are BMW fans whom buy whatever they put out even if all hate the direction the car brand is taking, etc.... It is what it is. At the end of the day its just money and we don't take any with us when we pass away. That is not to say people shouldn't take care of important things for themselves or family.

@McTwist You do know that the base PS5 is still available? Like the PS4 PRO, the PS5 PRO is optional. Plenty of users still enjoy the base PS4 across the world. Forcing consumers to go all digital stuck behind connected digital subscriptions is a better use of the world anti-consumer IMO. Not complaining about a highly priced version of a console that is launching for those that want it. The PS5 will continue to do well. Especially once more Sony games come out. In life there are those that can get better things than us. So what. I don't complain when I buy a car if I cannot buy the best trim for a respective model.

I’ve been saying this for years about the console prices. But I’m sure now many more will believe it since FPS Foundry said it. Remember folks electronics are vanity goods. No one is entitled to their hobby. Besides the pro isn’t needed as there is still the base PS5.

@PuppetMaster if Sony did charge that much for a PS6, it would give them more leeway to build a stronger base system. As they always loose money on consoles in the beginning. Then people would feel that there is a bigger leap between the console generation. As 4K gaming is very taxing on hardware. And a single digit more in teraflops from the PS4 pro to PS5 isn’t so dramatic.

@Gost reasonable response. I’m so surprised why everyone is mad. What do they expect? The GPU is really beefed up from the base. Also a base PS5 can be had still. I would understand if Sony was dropping the base and forcing people to buy this vanity hobby good. I see the pro as a top trim. And I expect pros to stay. As there will be people like myself willing to pay more for the best. Similar to every other good. Sony sells a range of TVs. But no one protests the top level 4K TVs which cost the most because they have the best electronics. Again no one is forcing anyone to spend money on electronics.
