@wiiware cannot have attractive females for western devs anymore it seems. It’s a shame for a bond game or anything bond related. But im not surprised by this.
@BAMozzy agreed that people go to far. And yes there will always be fanatics for anything. Humans are very tribal for many things or find something to hang on to. It’s just how humans are when we really like something, sometimes we cannot process how or why someone else doesn’t see it how we see it. I think humans will always find a reason to compare even if as you said the hardware is similar. Well it comes down to packaging, looks, feel, the people affiliated with the brand etc. Agreed about competition. For any industry having a good competitor(s) leads to innovation. I hope all console manufacturers have success enough to justify continuation in this hobby. As each company has brought something cool to gaming for the past several decades.
Better for them to cancel it then release something that wouldn’t live up to the ethos of the old ones. From the music to the character design of Agent dark. The new one seriously seemed to lack that ethos which made me love the first two games.
Even with inflation the cost of the PS5 remains low still just like all of gaming. People at Sony and software developers need good compensation just like you and I. Also if people aren’t tracking where nearly all semiconductors are made too plus the increased demand which places stress on chip producers in one of two countries. So all in all it’s not bad for hardware nor software which remains low in cost. At the end of the day gaming provides more entertainment than other forms of entertainment by hour and re-usability. I don’t get why people complain about this luxury hobby.
@Casco Xbox as a subsidiary of MS has not given up. They have been forced to evolve. Since they have windows money plus many multiplat studios they are attempting to redefine what a gaming device or ecosystem is. They are trying to be on many fronts. I think it will be a challenge for them because outside of the Anglo countries people haven’t flocked to Xbox since Xbox one. And to be fair the series consoles with subsidized gamepass are a good deal. I think a more expensive Xbox next generation even with access to a PC library will be a hard sell for many judging by the series consoles performance worldwide.
@BAMozzy and there is nothing wrong with the console competition. People act as if it’s a bad thing. Yet the same people more than likely have sports teams that they follow. Humans like certain brands no matter the industry. Competition brings innovation and I like the companies trying to make compelling reasons for us to get their hardware.
@darylb24 yup! It’s going to need a lot of love since they are using the Toyota corolla game engine that is the UE5. So within the next decade gives them enough time to have it optimized for PS6.
It’s a fun live service game no surprise here. Even though it’s not on subsidized gamepass. Sony should hold all its IPs nearby still. As we don’t really know for sure what MS’s next generation strategy will be despite what they say.
And microsoft is working on two system on chips for whatever the next Xbox will be assuming MS doesn't lease out the rights to other manufacturers to make an Xbox. It will be interesting next generation. As long as Sony launches a PS6 which can be had with a real blu-ray disc drive, I will support the traditional console.
@nessisonett The PS5 is being pushed plenty due to the target resolutions. If it had plenty of overhead its significant library of PS4 games should all run at very high frame rates with a high pixel count. The PS5's approved system on chip that launched to us in 2020 was okay for a two+ year old design by the time it launched. Not saying its not a capable machine, we have horizon and death stranding 2 to show for it. There just isn't going to be some crazy amount of extra power that isn't being used that people are thinking. A pro wouldn't have been launched if that was the case.
@Oram77 big studios have a lot of overhead. Corporations even engineering and software companies mostly aren’t full of engineers and software developers. So they need more revenue to stay afloat. Even if as a consumer it seems greedy which is relative if we are being honest.
@Czar_Khastik last time I checked they don’t have a lot of employees. Just a few men working at the studio last time I checked. They don’t have a big HR department, marketing department etc. Just positions that directly contribute to the end product. Also it is clear that the owner isn’t so concerned about making even more money than he could. Their next title should be very successful if they continue with their lessons learned from the launch of NMS.
@OldGamer999 gaming is a vanity hobby. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Sony, MS, Nintendo are for profit companies. People want so much out of the gaming industry but don’t want to pay for hardware or new games that should all be priced so low according to them. Then get sad when we hear about layoffs for working professionals in the industry. It’s such a delicate balance but the industry provides so much value for the prices of content/hardware that has to last for several years.
@Can-You-Believe-Sith the PS3 was priced high because it was state of the art and technical powerhouse. It had so much tech built into it and the console had a lot of overhead. The PS4 and PS5 were built cheap from the get go with the mindset of having a decent SOC for the new system’s respectively.
@EfYI long console generations don’t bother me. But if we are to have them then the successor must be a powerhouse with a lot of overhead to last in the long run. Sure Sony wound lose a lot of money in the beginning finding the right price to sell a higher tier medium PC equivalent but people would see the value in a new machine.
I’d like to see an impressive base PS6 SOC at launch. With a good GPU and solid CPU that isn’t weak sauce. That way the console could have more overhead. Should be more expensive to make than the PS5. So it could be equivalent to the placement of the PS3 when it launched as state of the art for the time. But I know that will not happen at all.
@LogicStrikesAgain yes exactly. The PS5 was very mid when it came out. The SOC even for the time wasn’t so special. Sony learned its lesson about making a state of the art console at launch in the PS3 era. There isn’t a lot of overhead left in the PS5 with the resolutions we are targeting. But that isn’t to say that we cannot have pretty games on the PS5. Sonys first party studios show us what is possible and the results are good for the price of this lower mid tier PC equivalent for 500-600$. It’s still a super deal IMHO.
@naruball depends on when ones basic basic PC was built. A medium PC isn’t basic which is what the PS5 is but on the lower end. Lower tier would be considered basic, you know the ones that are prebuilt for normal tasks.
@OldGamer999 well they haven’t had a chance to shine because developers still made games for last generation. Recent games that are only current generation show that we are in a new generation. So I don’t see what others are talking about when they say what we have now is like last generation. People want many pixels so that is what developers are focusing on which requires raw power.
MS could charge 70$ for it. It’s their IP and a new PS game. Besides many on PS haven’t even played it. People will always complain about the price of a game even if it was free because micro-transactions are in it. These games were great to me in the X360 era! If only MS didn’t fumble the Xbox one we wouldn’t be here.
The Rimac doesn't inspire excitement in real life let alone a game but all of the cars are more fun in the top photo than the pagan one haha. Japan will be a great setting! Might be the best horizon yet. Still sucks that this isn't Xbox only as the Forza IP is good.
@get2sammyb they will need it to be on PS5 day because it will be on subsidized gamepass day one for sure! And MS execs are so pleased with more coin from the paying PS fanbase.
@Oram77 I remember getting MGSV and playing it on the base PS4. Was so good from what i remember at launch when I got it. It’s all about money. These company executives just don’t want to spend the money to develop their own in house engines as that means overhead. They want to reduce the developmental costs so games can get to the market ASAP. But as you know specific tools are suited for certain jobs. An all purpose tool will never be great at many things. OT: I’m also disappointed that CDPR ditched the Redengine for their next games and went to UE5.
Word on the streets is that the Toyota Corolla common-class UE5 has a horrible showing here! A real shame! They should have kept developing their Fox engine.
Subsidized gamepass works as long as there is a pot of money to throw at it to pay off developers. Once that runs out things will be different but the Xbox subsidiary is a part of MS which has windows as a currency basically. Had Xbox been its own thing and strictly gaming they would not have enough cash to even consider subsidized gamepass as it exists today being in third place nor acquire large publishers. Xbox would have had to innovate another way.
@rjejr capitalism has allowed for the vanity luxury gaming hobby. The reality is that normal people have to work. Same story since the early empires that are in the history books with normal people having to work. This will never change.
Not surprised to hear this. Very unfortunate though as I was really looking forward to this! Unlike others I don’t have a backlog of current generation games that interest me.
People roasted me months ago for saying that Sony is a hardware company at its core and it needs people to be invested into its physical products for services. This is just more Sony adapting with a vertical business model to stay relevant. The PlayStation is a strong IP, we will have some sort of PS hardware for the foreseeable future. As gaming is still at the end of the day a luxury hobby as it’s hasn’t even reached critical mass yet across the whole world and the west isn’t the whole world with its under 1 billion population.
@Porco pc isn’t a direct competitor to consoles. Families and young boys still want PlayStations. Families can get a console for a good price which provides a lot of value for the family. Contrast this to an entry level PC for gaming which most families wouldn’t consider.
@Runex2121 seems that Sony makes enough coin to justify keeping it running. But this is why I want real physical media as I don’t have to worry about digital store fronts for said console.
@KawakiisaFraud people aren’t paying for cheap series Xbox consoles now. I don’t think people around the world will rush out to go buy a more powerful Xbox PC hybrid which might not see its power utilized since developers may not specifically optimize for it. Just like a real PC. PlayStation has nothing to worry about if the PS6 is priced lower than whatever MS comes up with. Families don’t rush out to buy gaming PC’s that’s mostly an 18+ thing when a person gets a job.
Massive overreach IMHO. I don't trust sending these companies ones own official government IDs or their own face. Even if countries adopted a recent law like Denmark passed, I still don't trust it. As these aren't official government requests. Burden is on the parents for these games and movies. This is a very very slippery slope towards more control which is what others want. I don't support this at all but I know millions would still buy this game.
@ShadowRJ the thing is that those games were still playable. Video games are manmade therefore there will always be improvements that can be had. Anyone that has done code knows that there is always rooms for improvement with software once new techniques and assets become available. But with physical copies one will always be able to enjoy their playable game for the years to come. Sure older games could have a patch here and there but to the vast majority of gamers playable games are fine.
Want realism then play Arma. Has been grounded since its inception as “operation flashpoint.” Battlefield is arcade simulation like COD. Console gamers don’t really want an Arma.
MS needs the PS and Nintendo fanbases whom actually buy games. Subsidized gamepass isn’t sustainable on its own. MS bragged about how well COD did last year. It would have done better without being a day one game.
And nothing to brag about here. Imagine Toyota buying the Volkswagen automotive group then Toyota bragging the next several months about how amazing their revenue is. It’s like MS bragging about being the biggest publisher on PS. Any publisher that owns a lot regardless of industry can tout the same feats.
@Foxx_64740 it’s not sustainable. As MS has to prop up the studios developmental costs plus salaries to offset the nearly free cost for consumers. Also MS has to pay off other companies to get their games on gamepass. And with inflation things go up each year. It’s why MS puts games on PS, as the PS base will buy new games at full MSRP for whatever interests them. If Xbox didn’t have Windows as a currency behind it, Xbox wouldn’t have considered the model years ago.
MS might as well just rename Xbox to Xbox Publishing as they will continue to acquire in the future I’m certain. As they put everything on all the platforms this will allow for them to acquire more. Xbox as a unique platform is gone. But MS still has its true winner which is windows, so Xbox hardware will likely just be the cheapest entry for a console/PC. Which could prove very popular if they keep the design bespoke and powerful for the money one pays. Either way I still want good competition. I hope that the Japanese brands retain almost all of their IPs and don’t put them on other consoles. PCs don’t count as they don’t compete with consoles. Young lads and their families still buy PlayStations. When that lad is over 18 and gets his first real job then a PC becomes a reality.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare brand identity is a console war I suppose. Not sure why people are ashamed to support it. All brands are in competition with each other for profit corporations. It’s the same for every other industry I.e automotive. Except in other industries, companies don’t give away IP without some type of mutual deal. But MS with each passing day is truly just a publisher which they haven’t directly said.
Really big numbers for a game I hear virtually no one talk about. Besides it’s worth seeing how it looks on one’s setup. I got the second one because I wanted to see how it looked too. Pretty game and superb engine. I just don’t like the characters or story. Not to my liking.
I don’t understand this mindset of the more people that can play games the better it will be for all. No one is entitled to the gaming hobby. People are free to spend their excess money and buy into a platform to gain access to some IPs. I hope Nintendo keeps its IPs under lock and I hope Sony does for most of its IPs. And PC isn’t a competitor. Many young lads still want PlayStations and families buy them still. Let us see what Sony has in mind for their IPs.
If it sold 5 million copies they would have said it. Player count has never been the metric of success for video games. So it’s underperforming. This is just word play to control the narrative to appear cool so people will still get it. As many people base their decisions on popularity. They need sells as they aren’t MS whom can afford to prop up its subsidized services.
It’s an online game with influence from a non Sony derived IP. The PlayStation brand is fine. All I care about is the next four years of 1st party PS5 exclusives.
MS could have raised the price of windows and subsidized gamepass by 0.01$ to generate more revenue quickly. It sucks for these professionals. Hence forth those working within the gaming industry must have one foot in and one foot out mindset. It sucks because MS has the money but it’s all about projecting good numbers on MS PowerPoint to shareholders.
I hope its a powerful console at launch and expensive. That way there will be a lot of overhead as they can put in a relatively good GPU and CPU by the time the SOC is approved before production. What made the PS3 so special was that it was a state of the art console for the time and expensive to build as it was really custom.
@Oram77 I say make it expensive and powerful so that a pro isn't needed later on. If people cannot afford to make the leap the first few years of a PS6 then so be it. They will still support PS5 for the next 7 years starting now at least as we finally get PS5 games.

But MS with each passing day is truly just a publisher which they haven’t directly said.
Re: Sony's Horizon Franchise Has Sold a Wild 38 Million Units Worldwide
Really big numbers for a game I hear virtually no one talk about. Besides it’s worth seeing how it looks on one’s setup. I got the second one because I wanted to see how it looked too. Pretty game and superb engine. I just don’t like the characters or story. Not to my liking.
Re: PS5 Fans Getting 'Really Carried Away' with Job Listing Which Implied More Exclusives Could Be Ported to Xbox, Switch
Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Tops 5 Million Players, Performs 'In Line with Expectations'
Re: Industry Body Representing Publishers Like PlayStation Says Stop Killing Games' Proposals Would Be 'Prohibitively Expensive'
@Luvstagrind don’t forget the PS3 and Xbox 360! That generation was as you describe. Games were launched playable still as that was the expectation.
Re: Gran Turismo's Primary Console Competitor May Be No More
@Bagwag82 I used to love to play the cat and mouse mode online! Such a fun game. Good times.
Re: Romero Games Appears to Have Closed as Xbox Layoffs Cast Dark Shadow Over Industry
@Bionic-Spencer perfect translation of this corporate message and moves by Microsoft.
Re: Reaction: Helldivers 2 on Xbox Signals Another Unexpected But Not Overly Surprising Shift in Strategy from Sony
It’s an online game with influence from a non Sony derived IP. The PlayStation brand is fine. All I care about is the next four years of 1st party PS5 exclusives.
Re: Mass Xbox Layoffs Begin, Rare Game Everwild and Zenimax MMORPG Both Reportedly Cancelled
Re: PS6 to 'Push the Boundaries' of Graphics, Doubles Down on Machine Learning
I hope its a powerful console at launch and expensive. That way there will be a lot of overhead as they can put in a relatively good GPU and CPU by the time the SOC is approved before production. What made the PS3 so special was that it was a state of the art console for the time and expensive to build as it was really custom.
Re: PS6 to 'Push the Boundaries' of Graphics, Doubles Down on Machine Learning
@Oram77 I say make it expensive and powerful so that a pro isn't needed later on. If people cannot afford to make the leap the first few years of a PS6 then so be it. They will still support PS5 for the next 7 years starting now at least as we finally get PS5 games.
