Man - this game is obliterating me and the difficulty spike is crazy- just made it to Sinner’s Road and how this game suddenly went from challenging to ruthless has me frustrated- not enjoying this one as much as Hollow Knight >< but music and art direction? Amazing

I suspect the idea of working on a live service title is creatively awful - I couldn’t imagine making your life’s work a singular effort and watching people exit these types of projects tells me it remains an unattractive pursuit.

I’m surprised over the doubt surfacing- to each their own but people who have played the previews it were giving it glowing endorsements and I thought they nailed the creepy atmosphere in the trailer shrugs I remain hyped!

I’ve made the decision to make plans specifically around this showcase- I just can’t deal with further disappointment from Sony. Buut I hope those who tune in are rewarded!

Right now, my ps5 is a clunky tv streaming unit ( for some reason, Crave runs like ass on it but only on ps5… which means it’s only function I use it for is still problematic). Sony has really lost my faith this generation and at first I thought I was being a cranky gamer but so many here were able to articulate my beef with their output lately. It would be refreshing for Sony to remember variety is a thing and perhaps to let their studios release games in other genres. Maybe instead of the umpteenth FPS, make a new racer, puzzler or survival horror title. Hell, if Sony is too cheap to invest in a brand new IP, how about bringing back older classics? The thought of what could be done with a new Ape Escape entry after what team ASOBI did with Astro Bot is too good of a possibility to ignore. But sure. Try to make the next live service game happen >.<

I love 8 - though for me, the pinnacle is at the beginning -such a great hook having a military school - after that , it gets a bit rough around the edges but it sticks the landing with a phenomenal ending FMV that chokes me up to this day - I remember people hating the romantic angle on this one in particular…

For me these days, games with good to medium reviews make a purchase a tough enterprise, as I don’t have a lot of disposable income to spare. My gaming purchases have changed drastically and I do quite a bit of research to avoid a $90 dud. I’ll pass on this one but hope those who invest enjoy it.

Def rocketed to one of my most anticipated games - between this, Penny Blood and Armed Fantasia, turn based fans are going to be eating real good in 2025. 😍

Love the original- my only issue was with staff quitting inevitably no matter what you do. If they refine the management system, this could be a great sequel. Also (maybe I missed it) as I didn’t watch the full video - co-op would be amazing addition.

14 is crazy overrated IMO and to have one of the head people responsible for putting Final Fantasy on the map say he doesn’t want to ruin his enjoyment of 14 by developing another game is so upsetting to me- I always thought he had one more FF in him But, live your best life sir.

Aww so excited ! I hope this is a remaster done with love and care - come on Ubisoft, time to polish a classic !

I hate to join the grumble train but there is setting expectations and then there is diminishing hype. I would have left it alone after Geoff’s last don’t-get-too-excited spiel. Not a lot of new games or updates for games of current interest to the public. Got it.

Say what you will about marketing costs, but nothing in the dust of E3’s demise has been able to excite and invigorate me as a gamer. Maybe it’s just a drought for announcements too but I miss the expo format.

Excellent article that articulates my feelings on the matter. Sony has shifted into what it stood against and my console is used to stream movies now and not play video games. I became a PC gamer with the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 and haven’t had a reason to return. Does Sony not have people monitoring the feedback from this ? Does no one over there even care about the lukewarm/cold response from the viewers (excluding the love towards Astro Bot)? Sad days for the big S. Not so big anymore.

Thrilled about the quality over quantity mindset- what I hope is that at some point in my lifetime they remember they have incredible dormant IP’s they can mine from- Parasite Eve (ripe for a remake), Xenogears, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, Einhander, Chrono series, Brave Fencer Musashi… their catalogue on psone is what made me fall in love with gaming in the first place - I remember a Square ad in a magazine during this golden era saying “pick a world, we’ll take you there.” Give me that again !

I feel so out of touch with modern PlayStation as nothing truly excited me but happy for everyone that loved it. Anyone else reverting back to older titles? I’ve had the urge to play Vagrant Story again and boot up the psone …

IMO, Remake was 2/3rds good- when they went full Nomura at the end, they lost me- the promotional trailers look great for Rebirth but I am curious how off-the-beaten-path the game goes - it does get me hyped having a new Tekken and FF coming out within a month of the other, like we are back in the 90’s - hope this one delivers 🤞

So happy to see Octopath getting some love in the voting! Brilliant series that keeps getting better. SE should really let that development team take a crack at a mainline FF

What a way to kill any excitement - I suppose this is the way things are done now to avoid blowback from disappointed gamers but this whole “nothing you want to see will be announced but please celebrate with us by buying our merchandise ” is equally terrible.

@MagisterMagi you know , you’re right! I had to double check and it seems your squeenix account links to psn without needing +- thanks for catching that still not enamoured with Sony these days but it’s an expense we all have to weigh

I think Sony makes it an easier choice as they have started porting their “console exclusive” titles to PC - also, for FF 14 players, you are being double gouged as you need a ps+ account to play along with Squeenix’s sub costs - it’s insanity and a primary reason I don’t play online games on the console anymore.

Leading up to the release, 16 was supposed to be a banger. After finishing it, the game was surprisingly derivative. It missed delivering that magic sauce necessary to become a true classic and I can understand why it’s just not resonating with a lot of gamers - FF used to lead the pack and now I worry more than ever that the series is stuck in identity limbo 😣

100% agree with this review! My best friend and I are over half way through and … love the combat, enjoying the story , but man those side quests- you go from epic adrenaline-flooding battles to fetch quests of the most mundane variety. I would fully support a philanthropist’s gild and toss them Gil to get the quests done. The pacing is jarring and in between the MSQ, it just brings the story’s momentum to a grinding halt.

The poster child for “meh.” A few standouts but man was this underwhelming. Where is Naughty Dog? What is Blue Point Studios doing? Where are the exclusive heavy hitters to look forward to? Jim Ryan is missing the beat big time.
