Dire numbers, and it’s not getting better.

@PuppetMaster Nintendo fanboy? Out of the three big ones, Nintendo systems are my least played systems these days, I mosly only play for the first party titles, like 3-4 titles a year at best. I’ve been a multi console owner since the ps2 days and ‘I’ve never looked back. You should try it. Owning a ps5 pro, switch 2 and series x, you get the best of all worlds.

The only one showing fanboy tendencies here is you since you flat out defend anything Sony and hating on anything that remotely puts Sony in a bad light. Defending mandatory crunch is absolutely insanity. Jason is one of the most respected journalists out there.

@Flaming_Kaiser Oh they are! Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games of all time! Prime 4 was really good as well, would probably rate it an 8.5.

@PuppetMaster Well, I said consoles, not PC. There’s almost no reason to buy an Xbox at this point, hence why sales are plummeting, and with the Switch 2 you are either off with not getting a specific third party title or you will get an inferior one compared to the ps5. So again not much choice if you want a high end one that will give you most AAA third party games.

Just because Metroid cater more to the western audience doesn’t mean they are big sellers. The best selling Metroid game has sold roughly 4 million world wide (Metroid Dread), which is miles off of franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon etc.

I’ve been following sales threads since the 00s and I can guarantee you that the discounts had a major impact on the November sales. Was it the only factor, obviously not, but it definitely was a factor, like it always is.

@PuppetMaster I think third-party support is more important now for Sony than first-party. If you want a high end console with the best third party titles, AAA and Indie, you're basically left with one choice: The PS5. There's no point in buying an Xbox at this point, since Microsoft has essentially left the console race. So you want the best place to play the latest COD, EA FC Sports, GTA, Fortnite etc. etc. you basically have to buy a PS5 if a console is what you want.

And yes, Metroid has never been a big seller, even in the US.

I think the major factor as to why the PS5 sold more than the Switch 2 this November was because of the discounts. The same thing happened back in 2017 when the PS4 beat the Switch in November. Big discounts for the PS4, while practically nothing for the Switch.

Absolutely disgusting by Naughty Dog. Right before the Holidays as well.

1. No one has ever said that Sony will go multiplatform, at least not here.
2. Remember, the PS4 also outsold the original Switch in the US in its first holiday season back in November 2017. These are US sales only as well.
3. Saying people have zero interest in the Switch 2 in Europe is nonsense. The system is selling fine, even though it's not selling quite as much as the PS5. It's doing quite well here in Norway.
4. Saying these numbers are a disaster is funny because Nintendo just raised their forecast in the latest quarterly report from selling 15 million Switch 2s in it first fiscal year to 19 million. So the Switch 2 has actually sold MORE than what Nintendo anticipated.

@PuppetMaster The PS5 received $100-$150 discounts in the us, so yes not as heavy as in EU, but still bigger than the Switch 2 which had a $50 discount for 2-3 days.

It’s going to be interesting to see who “win” in December with no discounts to speak of (at least nothing big). These are dire numbers, and December probably won’t be a big difference unfortunately.

@PuppetMaster I haven't seen a single person who thought the Switch 2 would outsell the PS5 after the heavy discounts the PS5 received last month, at least not in the US. Remember, the PS4 also outsold the Switch back in November 2017 in the US, after the PS4 also received heavy discounts.

@ThomasHL It’s the fastest selling system of all time, at least with the official numbers we have. Nintendo also raised the forecast from 15 to 19 million sold.

@graymamba I’ve never really understood the mentality of joining a community or a site just to spread hate. Like, c’mon got nothing better to do?

@LogicStrikesAgain Forced might the wrong word yes, but there’s a reason why the sales of the Series s/x are falling of a cliff at the moment, so in reality there’s only one viable option if you want a console with all the AAA third party games, and that’s the ps5.

@LogicStrikesAgain There’s basically not a single reason to buy an Xbox at this point since MS has been very clear about their position. Plus, all games published by MS will arrive on Playstation at this point.

@gamepadnomad Sony effed up big time with the live service push, but somehow Microsoft has effed up even more with their decisions over the past five years. I bet Sony is feeling a huge sigh of relief right now. If Microsoft had played their cards right, and not the opposite, the ps5 could’ve ended up selling even less than the ps3.

@naruball If people want a high end console right now the only viable option is a ps5. There’s no competition at all, since MS has essentially decided to abonden the hardware race. There will always be people who are on the lookout for a new console, and a lot of those want a dedicated console and a powerful one. Again, there’s only one on the market right now, the ps5.

After the success of the ps2, where Sony at the end of the day faced no competition, they became arrogant Sony, which resulted into them making a lot bad decisions during the ps3 era. The ps3 ended up being the least sold console by Sony and the only one to not reach 100 million. Competition in that sense, is always good.

@gamepadnomad Yeah, Microsoft essentially leaving the hardware race is not good because Sony will be the only one with a premium console. People are basically forced to buy a ps5 if they want a high end console. Competition is always good. Hopefully this doesn’t mean arrogant Sony is back.

@naruball The ps5 was out of stock because it was very popular but also because Sony just couldn’t ship nearly as many units as they should have. Nintendo delayed the launch of the Switch 2 in order to ship enough units to safely meet demand and then some, which is the reason you why it’s not supply constraint.

@PuppetMaster Well the ps5 had massive discounts, while the Switch 2 had a $50 discount for two days. It’s all about the bigger picture anyway, The Switch 2 is still the fastest selling system ever six months in and they are on track to sell as much as they predicted within the first fiscal year. Infact they even raised their forecast during the latest earnings.

The ps5 being down compared to last year, WITH a recent price drop is not a good sign.

Disgusting, especially coming from Sony. Really disappointing. People defending this, would you defend it if it was Nintendo or Microsoft?

@Gunbeld I hate when people paint a black and white picture like this. Both the Switch 2 and the PS5 are performing well, no one is mopping the floor with the other. Let's just enjoy the fact that Sony and Nintendo both have successful consoles at the moment.

Also, there’s been plenty of good Pokemon games since the DS days, like the recent Legends ZA.

@KawakiisaFraud Pretty sure I’ve never heard any Nintendo fan proclaming the Switch 2 will make all consoles obselete.

Also if you think Switch 2 sales will collapse next year, you’re in for a huge disappointment. The next mainline Pokemon game, for example, releases next year. Even without that sales would never collapse.

Am I the only one here who actually want all consoles to thrive and sell well?

@naruball This is just one market though, I can almost guarantee you that the Switch 2 will outsell the ps5 when it comes to world wide ship numbers for this fiscal year. But why focus on that, why not focus on the fact that both systems are performing well?

@judgmentarrows Why is Nintendo any worse than Sony if you don’t mind me asking? They’re both multi billion dollar companies, mostly about making even more money at the end of the day. Who’s worse is splitting hairs, and you can make a narrative of who’s the absolute worse if you really want to, but then you’re entering haters gonna hate territory.

@judgmentarrows You feel like playstation exclusives are better? How about actually try Nintendo games yourself? Nintendo have some of the highest rated exclusives of all time, including the Switch era. I own a ps5 pro, xbox series x AND a Switch 2, which means I can play the best games and experience the best games from all words, instead of making ridiculous comments like these.
