Do you remember Godfall, the PS5 launch title that never really struck a chord with the console's early adopters?
Well, its developer, Counterplay Games, has reappeared — and the team's bringing a new kind of action to Sony's system.
The game's called Armatus, and it's a fast-paced action-shooter with an emphasis on chaotic combat encounters. It's definitely got a bit of Returnal and Saros to it, but seemingly without the bullet hell-inspired enemy design.
Indeed, it sounds like there are roguelike elements to this one as well. The official description on the PS Store reads: "Knowledge is a weapon, and death is never the end. Each run, wield your scythe and a gun of your choosing against brutal demons hellbent on your destruction."

However, you apparently won't have to grind out a bunch of runs just to find your feet. The description continues: "From the moment you step into the ruins, you are heavily armed and powerful. Yet you will keep gaining new powers until you have the tools to lay waste to your enemies."
Armatus looks and sounds pretty cool, then, and it's targeting a 'winter' release on PS5. I'm guessing that means it's coming out early next year.
What do you make of Armatus? Don't forget to reload in the comments section below.

Godfall is a game that I’ve never come across any gamer who’s played it. Someone had to have played it. But it’s like they don’t like to admit it.
@AhmadSumadi I played it and even finished it. It’s not going to win any awards but It was a perfectly playable game that worked on day one, I’ve played worse from bigger developers. However I rented it at launch so that’s worth noting.
I doubt most of the people who ever complained about it even bothered to try it.
I kind of liked Godfall. You give me a game with a good aesthetic, a decent gameplay and some loot, and i'm happy.
Godfall had a lot of potential and visually it was amazing.
The story was awful, maps very repetitive and gameplay a bit shallow.
You could see the potential, but it was never realized.
Let it be singleplayer only, let it be singleplayer only, let it be singleplayer only....
Come in at a budget price like $40-50 and this is a top notch AA purchase in my book.
We have Saros at home
@AhmadSumadi My buddy and I played it and it was a decent time. Theres just not much to say.
It falls into that category of games that’s a solid 6.5 to 7 that’s kinda forgettable, though I had a decent time with it.
This is compared to Saros or Returnal?
Looks more like DOOM the Dark Ages to me.
I could be wrong, but this could go nowhere .
Anxious to see the real game play in action and will decide from there.....
Played godfall, overall 7 game.
Great visuals & fun gameplay but got repetitive at the end. Bad story..
Looking forward seeing more from Armatus.
Something about medieval themed games with primarily a gun focus just seems so silly to me. Just like forcing guns into a desired gameplay design and slapping the art style on it to make it seem different.
If this had been a melee focus then sure but this just doesn't interest me.
Godfall was one of the first Next Gen games I wanted to play. It was good, not great.
@AhmadSumadi I played it and I really enjoyed my time with it. Was it a brilliant game? No but it was really good fun. Oh it was the very first ps5 game I bought too.
I think I saw the trailer but went ok, sure, moving on. Godfall looked interesting and was a fair game, but this yeah it just blended into the background.
@KillerIsD34D
What I was about to say
Didn't play ir't myself and reviens told le not to but I thought the main characters art to look quite cool.
This one, however, looks pretty similar to every other games.
I played Godfall. For the first 10 or so hours I was like man people got this one wrong, this game is really cool. But then the next 10 hours were literally exactly the same as the first 10 hours except you learned a couple new convoluted combat mechanics and it was like...actually yeah this is incredibly repetitive and boring. Looked really nice and had a lot of potential.
I liked godfall but I will never support anything the dev makes again. After paying for a game and then making it free. Why risk ever giving them money again.
I wanted to like godfall but in the end it felt incredibly over designed yet somehow under baked. There was no real challenge, if you died during a boss fight you'd come back health fully recovered yet the enemies health wouldn't. Death became trivial and as pretty as the areas looked, they were still kind of boring.
