Rumour: Halo PS5 Trailer Was Planned for State of Play, Sony Allegedly Angered by Removal 1

After all that transpired over the past 24 hours, it’s odd to see a new Halo: Campaign Evolved trailer captured on PS5 Pro hardware today.

But online scuttlebutt suggests this video may have actually been planned for last week’s State of Play, before last-minute changes saw Microsoft pull the plug on its inclusion.

Speculation started with Chris Dring’s newsletter The Game Business, where he said “Microsoft had planned to have a game at PlayStation’s State of Play showcase, but decided against it, angering Sony”.

While Dring didn’t elaborate which game he was referring to, The Verge reporter Tom Warren said “this ‘Captured on PS5 Pro’ Halo trailer sure would have made more sense if it was originally supposed to be part of Sony’s State of Play”.

It’s not enough to say definitively whether this was the plan or not, but seeing as it seems Gears of War: E-Day was cancelled last-minute, this all just seems reflective of Microsoft’s ever-changing strategy.

I can understand why PlayStation may have been bemused by this – it may have had to re-edit the State of Play, reschedule YouTube uploads, and delete social media posts.

But seeing Halo during a State of Play would have been odd anyway, so I’m not really sure what Microsoft was thinking if it committed to that in the first place.

It all just speaks to a company that appears to be making things up as it goes along.
