Re: Saros Dev's Co-Founder Is Stepping Down After More Than 30 Years

Sunraku

@gordonps You tried to prove me wrong… but literally both of your definitions have “ existed for a long period of time” or “ existed or been used for a long time”

It said nothing about general respect. But definitions are basing most established on length more than worth. Remedy has technically not be around as long.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on GTA 6?

Sunraku

I’m definitely sold on the game. I never really liked GTA games. I was way too young to had played GTA 3 & 4. And I could never play GTA5. Trevor was a terrible horrible psychotic person and ruin my enjoyment of the game.

The level of detail and realism with a bit more grounded approach has me completely sold. I mean those characters models are on point especially Lucia.

Re: GTA 6 Netflix Extended Look Live Now - Here Are All the New Things We've Learned

Sunraku

The stuff they showed off today looked like the scale and detail we were promised from something like Watch Dogs, The Division 2, CyberPunk… but we never got it in those games cause Ubisoft and XBone/PS4 were far weaker than advertised. But here we are almost 2 generations later, and it shows why we never got a GTA on those systems. They knew that what they wanted to achieve wasn’t possible until now.

Re: Psychonauts Dev Double Fine Reveals Its Future Plans Today

Sunraku

@WhoderMan @Americansamurai1 The only issue with a Psychonauts 3 is that they will not get enough funding for a proper game that isn't a massive downgrade from the second one. That was the major issue with Psychonauts 2. They tried to kickstart that one, and it would have stayed on a very much smaller scope had it not been for Microsoft and Phil’s weird love for the franchise.

They probably are going to stay away from large IP like Brutal Legends because they simply do not have the funds or manpower for something like that...

We probably see more projects like Keeper, Kin, or Broken Age. Unless a publisher comes and opens their pocket, which is probably not happening in the current market.

Re: PS6's Purported $1,000 Price Point Could Lead to a 40% Slump in Sales

Sunraku

@Rob3008

Microsoft are definitely more at fault given Gemini,

Gemini is Google, but Microsoft has given funding/backing to stuff like OpenAI/ChatGPT

@chatbot I mean... You could also partly blame Sony as well. You have stuff like Sony Innovation Fund. Which operates ongoing global venture investments targeting stuff like early-stage deep tech, spatial computing, and data-driven infrastructure startups.

No company is fully at fault, but everyone is to blame. Sony deciding to create stuff like PSSR2 is them supporting AI. Their partnership with TSMC which has a focus on Physical AI.

Sony has their hands in and is feeding the beast that is AI just like everyone else.

Re: Opinion: Hermen Hulst Has Failed and PS Studios Needs a Change

Sunraku

@dodgykebaab

Studio Japan was killed off, Herman brought is back in the form of Team Asobi.

Herman had nothing to even do with this. Team asobi existed long before Herman took over. And their survival was based on guidance and foundation that was give to them by previous PlayStation leadership.

Let's also not forget throwing Sony's weight behind: Lost Soul Aside, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin.

All of these games are project and good will he inherited from again… Pervious PlayStation leadership. These was not his own decision whatsoever.

Re: We All Knew It Was Happening, But Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is Now Officially in the Works

Sunraku

@somnambulance This is not a case of technical limitation, and more a case of developer limitations. Carrying forward decisions across multiple games create a massive web of conditional logic that can break the scope of development.

You run into a "branch and bottleneck" where diverse choices funnel back into roughly the same narrative milestones to keep production costs and workload from spiraling out of control.

You also run into the same issue like with Mass Effect 3 ending where the scale expanded so massively by the third installment. Tying up every single carried-over thread in Mass Effect 3 resulted in severe narrative bottlenecks and immense pressure on the final resolution.

Also, games now take like 8 yrs to develop...

Re: We All Knew It Was Happening, But Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is Now Officially in the Works

Sunraku

@somnambulance

“Not sure why all these years later, more games haven’t done what Mass Effect did with a stacking RPG where your choices built over three games.”

Cause doing that and making a coherent story ends up involving developers telling players that their story and choices are ultimately wrong and not the canon story. That why so many games give the illusion of choice, but end being meaningless.

Also, games take too long to develop for that. We got all 3 mass effect game in 1 generation of consoles. We’ll be lucky if we see this game before the PS8. And that if we even still around as a civilization for PS8

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Update Adjusts the Brand New Day Suit Following Fan Outcry

Sunraku

@Reeneman I know that. That basic common sense that it takes months of work to do that. For toys it like 18 months for a toy to go from design to release. Hence why I said they would probably have early access to concept art, rendering, sketches… etc

Hence why I also said that something must of changed between the time they got that information and now.

Re: Halo Made Its PS5 Debut, So Now It's Time for Xbox to Lay Off the Team That Made It

Sunraku

@wildcat_kickz TBH... I doubt any of the regular dev care. Cause most of the regular devs aren't at the studio long enough to care. It a long documented fact that 343/Halo heavily follows Microsoft lead when it comes to heavy contract workers. Most of the developers are probably rotation of 6 month to 2 yrs contacts.

Again, no amount of lay off and restructuring is going to fix it. That is at the core of the studio.

The studio need to be shuttered and the IP handed off, but that put the transmedia part of Halo in a major freeze which is probably where Microsoft is making most of their money with the Halo franchise at this point

Re: Halo Made Its PS5 Debut, So Now It's Time for Xbox to Lay Off the Team That Made It

Sunraku

@wildcat_kickz

Leadership at that studio needs to go and a giant restructuring needs to take place.

The thing is this already basically entirely new leadership... All the Bonnie era leadership (Halo 4-6). Was let go with the last restructuring of the studio. That basically why they changed the name from 343 to Halo Studio. They put the people who was in charge of fixing the MCC in charge hoping that would fix the problem.

But clearly the entire studio is rotten to the core, and no amount of lay off and restructuring is going to fix it.

Re: GTA 6 PS5 Gameplay Coming This Month, Here's When to See It First on Netflix

Sunraku

@carlos82 I mean. We have companies who offer Netflix at a bundled price. But that is a scam. It usually the worse version of Netflix (Standard with ads), and usually requires you to be paying for that companies most premium offering. So like with T-mobile. I would need to be paying $100+ 1 Line a month (not including monthly phone bill) to get Netflix included in the bundle.

My currently phone bill with T-Mobile is $55 a month. That mean I can easily just sub to the Premium Netflix, and overall be paying less than if I just bundle with T-mobile.

Re: GTA 6 PS5 Gameplay Coming This Month, Here's When to See It First on Netflix

Sunraku

@PaperAlien Sony probably feels nothing. At the start of the year, Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced a landmark, industry-first global Pay-1 licensing agreement.

So any increase viewership on Netflix is a massive benefit for Sony. Cause you have to sign up for at least a month… and within that month you could be interested in watching any number of Sony films and TVs shows like kpop demon hunters

Re: Early Data Suggests Unspectacular Start for Halo on PS5

Sunraku

@DennisReynolds It was the entire package:

Halo: Reach: December 3, 2019
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary: March 3, 2020
Halo 2 Anniversary: May 12, 2020
Halo 3: July 14, 2020
Halo 3: ODST (Campaign): September 22, 2020
Halo 4: November 17, 2020

Even the crossplay option wasn't made available until the release of final game in the collection on November 17, 2020

Re: Early Data Suggests Unspectacular Start for Halo on PS5

Sunraku

@DennisReynolds It can be “drip fed”. That how it was released on PC.

“The game is also in great shape now and a fantastic package”

Tell that to all the issue that cropped up with the PC even when they staggered release every title, and still had issues.

A PS5 release will bring it entirely own issues along with Halo studios not knowing how the online infrastructure works on PS5.

Re: Early Data Suggests Unspectacular Start for Halo on PS5

Sunraku

@DennisReynolds

If MS ported over the MCC that would do extremely well.

I don't see how that would do any better than this. MCC would probably has to be dripped feed to PS player meaning... You would probably be paying $40 for the just Halo 1. And that if the game actually releasing a good state due to it terrible code base.

Re: Early Data Suggests Unspectacular Start for Halo on PS5

Sunraku

@GigaGaia

It's just another FPS, there is a ton of them.

Boiling Halo down to just a FPS does massive disservice not only Halo but every other FPS on the market. That like saying God of War, Last of Us, or Horizon are just another set of 3rd person action game

Halo is an arena shooter. That within itself changes Halo mechanically from the likes of Call of Duty, Battlefield, and even rainbow 6 siege. FPS games that all also mechanically different from one another.

Also, Halo's militaristic sci-fi novelty that stands with the likes of Star Wars or Star Trek is something we have none or barely any of in the gaming space.

Re: Halo Fares a Hair Better on PS5 Than Xbox, with PS5 Pro the Best Place to Play

Sunraku

@PSbox Because people are mad that it isn’t just a carbon 1-to-1 of the Bungie game with a visual overhaul. People are too emotionally attached to these games and can’t just move past something. Take it for what it is… a remake. This was never meant to replace the OG or Anniversary Edition.

People feel that Halo Studios took the OG Halo out back and “Old Yellered” the game, without realizing their old dog is still inside, curled up fast asleep. This game is just a new puppy their parents brought home. It will never fully replace their old dog. This new dog will have its own quirks and features—but they’ll learn to like it as time goes on.

Re: Japan Studio Couldn't Keep Up with Sony's Push for Games That Would 'Drive Hardware Sales'

Sunraku

@naruball

the psvita was beyond saving

That heavily depends on one's definition of "saving." No one was asking for the PS Vita to match the sales numbers of the 3DS or the PSP before it. I think people would have been fine had Sony simply continued developing for the system throughout its entire life cycle. But instead, they basically dumped it and washed their hands of it after just two and a half years on the market — leaving it in the hands of Japanese studios and indie companies to carry.

And we wonder why so many have jumped ship to Nintendo and never looked back.

Also, for a company that's planning to release another handheld, this history doesn't exactly inspire confidence in supporting a supposed PS6 handheld.

To add salt to the wound, we have a number of studios that could still be around — or in much better shape — had Sony kept them developing for the Vita instead of pushing them toward high-end AAA experiences. Because at this point, how much longer will Sony allow Bend and Media Molecule to fumble before they pull the plug?

Re: Japan Studio Couldn't Keep Up with Sony's Push for Games That Would 'Drive Hardware Sales'

Sunraku

They really should have left Japan Studio, Media Molecule, Bend Studio, and Pixelopus alone — letting them continue to develop for the Vita, helping drive hardware sales for that platform instead of leaving it to die in third-party hands. Meanwhile, they looked elsewhere for talent to drive their home console business. Now they're going to have to play catch-up with Nintendo in the handheld space all over again.

Re: Fable PS5 Has Run 'Uncomfortably Beyond Budget', Sources Claim

Sunraku

@ShadowRJ It was announced before they even actually had a team at Playground Games who had the talent and skill set to work on this… They had to open 2 separate satellite studio to even work on this game. Add in the time and effort it took for Turn10/Playground Games to repurpose the ForzaTech engine to handle the development of the game… For perspective, it took 3-5 years just for 343 to get the slip space engine off the ground for it use in Halo Infinite.

Re: Rumour: 'Really Ambitious' Open World Far Cry Game Enters Development as Ubisoft Kills Series' Extraction Shooter

Sunraku

In any case, it sounds like Blackbird — essentially Far Cry 7 — is the game that we'll be seeing next. Meanwhile, Kodiak is supposed to be "several years" away from release

That is crazy especially when you realize we was getting one almost every other year until Far 6... It felt like for a while we had a new AC one year, Far Cry the next, a new Watch dogs and a random Tom Clancy game tossed in the mix. Along with a new attempt at a new IP every so often.

Re: PS5's War for Attention Finds a New Foe with Games on Amazon Prime

Sunraku

@UltimateOtaku91

It feels way more natural and way less laggy than when I used to play gamepass on my mobile with a controller connected via Bluetooth.

That probably simply comes down to the fact you're playing on a specialized device with hardware optimized for streaming, decoding video streams and process controller inputs. With very little background process eating away system resource.

You would have to use both services on the same device to get a fair comparison... Even then it would be hard depending on which encoding Sony uses vs Microsoft.

Re: PS3's inFAMOUS 2 Sees an Explosion of New Players with Platinum About to Become Unobtainable

Sunraku

@Yaycandy Second Son came out during a simpler time before the time we have now… Second Son definitely couldn’t be released now without people calling it woke…. Etc. considering it is a game about destroying a government agency called the DUP who contains people they deem as dangerous, dehumanizing them. All ran by an evil women. While playing a Native American who hates his cop brother. Also theres pride flags.

@Oram77 It could be a bad or good thing. Depends on the person
