Assassin's Creed was on track to bring its trademark brand of stealth-action to China via a brand new AAA title — but it seems as though the project was cancelled before it could really take off.

According to a report from MP1st, the game was called Assassin's Creed Destiny, and it was set in 206 BCE — several years after Assassin's Creed Jade, the free-to-play mobile release that's currently in development.

As such, it's assumed that Destiny and Jade would have been related in terms of narrative.

Shenzhen-based studio — and Tencent subsidiary — TiMi Studio Group was apparently leading Destiny's production, which makes sense given that the outfit had also worked on Jade.

However, when TiMi underwent restructuring early last year, Destiny didn't survive; it was supposedly chopped not long after.

MP1st has uncovered some prototype gameplay, which shows a female assassin navigating a burning fortress on a rainy night — but it's still unclear how far into development Destiny actually was.

Other leaked files include animations related to a male protagonist, suggesting that the game would have featured either dual leads, like Assassin's Creed Shadows, or the option of choosing the main character's sex, like in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

It's possible that more information on Destiny will find its way online in the near future, given the sudden appearance of this report. We'll be keeping an eye out.
