@johncalmc Hi, A couple of questions for you if I may - with regards to your party/companions, can you only choose from the 6 preset characters or are there other NPC's you can pick up along the way to join you? Also, with regard to the turn based combat, do you have to control all your party members' actions during a fight or will the computer AI help you out?
Been playing through the Gears of War games for the 1st time over the past couple of weeks, have completed 1 - 4 & now just finishing off with Judgement - it's definitely........different, I'll give it that (but as it was a free download I can't really complain).
Not familiar with One Piece - is Luffy the only playable character in the game or does he have other pirate team mates you can play as or interact with etc?
Divinity: Original Sin II for me - never played one of these isometric CRPG's before so looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about (just hope it's not overly complicated).
Interested in the Walking Dead too, but won't pick that up until the whole season has been released so I can play it all in one go.
1. Ghosts of Tsushima - coz who doesn't like a good samurai story. Just hope they do keep it 100% realistic and don't do a '47 Ronin' on us.
2. Last of Us II - even though some of the original team are no longer at Naughty Dog, I still have faith this will be one of the best story driven games on the PS4 when all is said & done.
3. Spiderman - never been a huge fan of the old webslinger (compared to other superheroes) but if this game is as good as the original Arkham games and not a QTE fest, I may have to take a closer look once it's released.
4. Death Stranding - can't say I'm too fussed about this one at present based on what little I've seen. The overall premise & reveals so far just haven't grabbed me at all, but if the story & gameplay turn out to be decent I'm open to having my mind changed - the balls in your court Hideo !!
Just started on Fable 2 - heard it was the best of the trilogy so saved it till last. Enjoyed the other two in the series, although I wouldn't class them in the same league of RPG's as say Skyrim, Dragon Age & The Witcher etc.
A busy month for sure (especially if you add in the usual sports games that come out around this time too) , but there's a good variety of genres in there, so hopefully most gamers will find something to their liking. Obviously if you plan on owning most or all of them then I guess you've got some saving or prioritising to do.
Can see Dragon Quest & SNK Heroines Tag Team being the main losers (sales wise) due to both being fairly niche to begin with and also probably losing further sales to the bigger releases. As others have said, would probably be better releasing these earlier in the summer if possible.
Spyro & Spiderman will undoubtedly be the big winners of September with Tomb Raider not far behind (unless MS decide to release Crackdown 3 in September, Xboxers should ensure decent enough sales for Lara even if some PS4 owners postpone purchasing it at launch).
Be interesting to see what else October & November holds for us though outside of COD & Red Dead etc.
Currently playing through Fable III - wasn't 100% what to make of it at first what with the comedy/fugly characters & slightly weird combat system, but it has won me over with it's charm as I fast approach the endgame.
Interesting, especially as September isn't that long to wait - glad they didn't go for the episodic treatment as some initially thought a couple of months back.
All this talk of Mayan temples and eclipses makes me want to break out & read Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun though !!
Just finished up Kingdoms of Amalur, so will probably take a break from gaming this weekend before picking another gem from my (ever expanding) backlog.
And obviously will be spending tomorrow with my Ma & the rest of the family etc. Happy Mothering Sunday to all you mum's & Grandma's out there - you're the best !!
Ni No Kuni II and Fear Effect Sedna are the main two I've got my eye on this month, although will wait for reviews of both before purchasing. Far Cry 5 looks like it could be enjoyable too, provided they haven't overdone the politics etc.
Hmm, I only own two games in that list - Horizon Zero Dawn, which I bought Day 1 and still haven't got round to playing it yet (damn backlog) and Ghost Recon, which is actually a pretty decent shooter although the missions did get repetitive after a while.
Good news for Sony though & that's why they lead the way in terms of in-house studios and exclusives.
Sony nailed it for exclusives in 2017 (despite Mario & Zelda) and it's hard to argue that 2018 won't be the same, especially when compared to what MS & Nintendo currently have lined up/announced for this year so far. Although I'm hoping MS announce Fable 4 at E3 (single player preferably, rather than online MMO) and a not too distant release date.
God of War is the pick of the bunch for me, this newer take combining story driven adventure and Norse mythology definitely looks the business. Days Gone is also on my wish list also.
As for the rest, Ni No Kuni II looks great, but the kingdom building stuff has dampened my enthusiasm a bit as not a fan of this type of gameplay.
Spiderman & Yakuza 6 are not really for me, but think both will get rave reviews as both look superb. Not sure if some reviewers will give Detroit a fair shake when it releases though, but hopefully they judge the game on it's merits rather than whether they like David Cage or whatever.
As for Dreams, surely it HAS to be released this year !?
@ApostateMage There are some good bladed weapons in the game for sure - wasn't keen on the bow to begin with (due to the auto aim), but it's really grown on me and is now usually my back up weapon of choice.
Still playing Kingdoms of Amalur - just got to that stage where I really start to enjoy the game more, my character is strong enough to take on most comers and I roughly know what I'm now doing in regard to upgrading & crafting etc. Having said that, I do miss having a constant AI companion with me on my travels and it's a shame there is no romance option after being teased & tantalised by Elluvia (I think that's her name) last night and then not being able to further the conversation with her or open up any new dialogue options, seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity for an RPG.
Would love Mass Effect Trilogy & the first two Dragon Age games to get remastered for PS4 - unlikely to happen I know, but if Burnout Paradise remaster proves to be a decent seller anything is possible
I'd definitely give it another go (especially if you can get it cheap). It can take a while to get into fully and the side missions aren't always the best, but the game world is just so well done that you can just wander different areas of the map exploring like I did for the first couple of days until I got to grips with everything. The game has aged pretty well too - even on base PS4 it looked great on my new 4K TV.
It's definitely one of my top PS4 games now - can't believe I initially resisted as heard some people say it was similar to Dark Souls (i.e. rock hard), but glad I took the chance as thoroughly enjoyed it. If Capcom ever announce a sequel it'll be Day 1 for me no question.
