More of the same sounds great to me. I played OT2 first and that didn't get in the way of me enjoying OT1 after. This demo made me feel the same excitement for adventure and if it will give me 50-100 hours of that that's great. That said, I really enjoyed the different stories in OT1 & 2 so I hope OT3 is in the works.
(As an aside I recently bought Triangle Strategy on sale as I waited for this game and I've been hooked. Best game in a long time!)
Since I bought my ps5 on launch I've had 4 controllers, 2 of which now has less than an hour of battery life. I suspect my charging station, but I welcome being able to just get a new battery pack and not having to buy a new controller.
I can't wait! I played octopath traveller 2 first and loved it. Then I was a bit hesitant to try the first one but I got hooked again. Got platinums for both. I think I enjoyed the exploration the most, and the different story arcs. I wonder how much this one will differ in that regard.
I really enjoyed Dragon Age, much more than I had anticipated. It had some good exploration, expansive skill trees, and really nice loot system. Sure the story was nothing special and some characters were poorly written, but the gameplay was fun, it was a fun game. There are other recent games, FF16 as an example, with similarly bland story and characters which weren't even fun to play. Even after I had unlocked the platinum I was kinda close to start again as a new class. People have different reasons for playing games and this one with its flaws will not appeal to everyone, but the hate it's gotten is kinda staggering
Seeing Rebirth run on a mid pc makes me long for a new console. The PS5 feels ancient, but at the same time there hasn't been a lot of great current gen games. Maybe because of the focus on live service games. And maybe because so many games released on both PS4 and PS5. Which was a consequence of PS5 being expensive and hard to get at the time of release. So I understand why they did that. It just feels as if the PS5 has gotten old and dated without even having a lifespan to talk about. I really hope they make a cleaner break when the next generation hits.
I'm already more tired of this anti-woke thing than I was of the actual woke stuff. I wish people could be more supportive of other people's work instead of criticising every minute thing. I know it's weird voicing my opinion about how I'm tired of other people voicing theirs but the negativity is just everywhere. People work really hard making these games and they end up with an undeserved onslaught of negative criticism. If you don't like it just don't buy it. You don't have to explain to everyone else why everything sucks. Every thread on every gamer site and YouTube has exploded with people just looking for a particular kind of character. If the game isn't catered to them specifically then the game surely is woke. As for this game, I found incredibly aesthetically pleasing, from sound to graphics to art direction. Looking forward to seeing more of this. Also nice with a new IP!
First thought was to vote I don't watch but then I remember that I watch Hearthstone on a daily basis. It's as any other video on YouTube so I didn't really acknowledge it. I used to play but it took too much time and cost too much so now I just limit myself to highlight reels. Time spent playing games is far more though. But I don't think watching someone play games is more weird than watching sports, which I find equally uninteresting except maybe highlights
I really enjoy the Persona games and was looking forward to this. But after trying the demo I just couldn't get past the graphics. I think I'll wait for the royal edition. But it's definitely still on my list.
Way more enjoyable and prettier than FF16. I'm struggling getting into the latest Like a Dragon (despite loving and getting platinum on its predecessor) and this demo made me long for the 29th even more.
It seemed like a celebration of what people today think is fun, and that makes me kinda sad. Hopefully it will be balanced with enough comedy to make you able to laugh at the characters rather than aspire to be like them, but I somehow doubt that will be the case and I really don't look forward to that.
Octopath Traveller 2(!) followed by Baldur's Gate 3. Other than those, not really a great year in my book. Alan Wake 2 seems great but not my kind of game. Diablo 4 was a real let down for me, as were some other games I had high hopes for. As for Diablo, I've spent thousands of hours playing Diablo 3 and I'd still choose that over Diablo 4.
@EvenStephen7 I agree with everything you said. It was very poorly paced and the ending was very unsatisfying. Ragnarök didn't feel like the end of the world. Was that really what we were afraid of all game? It's a great and fun game in all other regards but I think it would have benefited from being a trilogy. It kinda felt like they just wanted to get it over with.
Though initially excited after playing the demo, the game didn't really click with me. I felt it lacking in gameplay and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. It is still great to see so many enjoying the game!
It seems like people in Japan see jrpg as meaning a rpg made by japanese developers. That is definitely not the definition which is prevelant in the west as I've seen it. It would make no sense as a genre if it was defined like that.
I'm a little sad to see Octopath Traveller 2 not appreciated more. It was such a refreshing and fun game. Just loved it! I hope it sold enough for them to continue with the series.
I was most surprised by how much I enjoyed Octopath Traveller 2. It was a journey I didn't want to end. Other than that this year has not really impressed me. Here's hoping Armored Core or Spider Man delivers.
I was really excited for this game. Following the success of FF14 and how much I enjoyed FF7R I thought they were on the right track. But I was taken aback by how barebones this game is. I get no feeling of curiosity, progression, or adventure. The world feels so small and hollow. Compare it to Ghost of Tsushima which had so many sights to see and secrets to uncover. Epic fights result in yet another sharp fang. Maps are littered with pocket change and feathers. Crafting is just about upgrading to the best weapon, no choice to be had, nothing to customize my game plan. Not that it was needed since every fight consists of using the phoenix aoe to destroy everything but the mandatory semi-boss which then is killed with one or two cycles of eikon abilities. Not that other Final Fantasy games have ever been difficult, but this does not have much to lean back on. The cast is beyond bland, and I don’t really sympathize with any of them. I really had wished for more. I'm 50 hours in and have 25% left of the main story but I don’t see it recovering from this. As of now it is the least liked Final Fantasy I’ve played (with FF9, FF12, FF7 at the top 3). My favorite moments from older games were those like in Grandia when you climbed the wall at the end of the world thinking you were nearing the end of a journey but then realized you were halfway through, or when I first played FF7 and got to leave Midgar, or when I travelled underground from the mist continent in FF9, or the different acts in Dragon Quest 11. I want another epic adventure!
