Everything he said is very fair, and as an old-school RPG fan who has come to terms with the fact that old-school RPGs have become niche and no longer appeal to the masses, I believe what he said is very true. As much as I wish a modern, new turn-based FF game would hit the same mainstream success as the SNES and PS1 games that I grew up with, they just won’t. It’s why Square’s modern turn based RPG games are usually cheaper AA affairs or mobile games.
I’ll try and give this one a wait and see, but if the combat system is similar to 15’s then I think I’m going to pass. That’s okay. The older games still exist and I have no problem returning to them when I’m craving that old-school Final Fantasy gameplay. Sometimes we outgrow things, it’s just a part of life. Expecting Final Fantasy to continue on for who knows how many years doing the same thing is unreasonable.
No one says a word? You’re joking, right? The most recent Gears and Halo games are absolutely getting slammed for their micro transactions, Halo so badly in particular that 343 had to lower the prices. What you want to compare Turismo to is Forza, and Forza is much better than Turismo about progression and being able to purchase cars.
Really enjoyed the movie, more than I thought I would. To be honest I think I prefer this particular I.P as a film franchise than a game franchise, it’s going to be so hard to go back and connect with game Nathan when he’s mowing down hundreds of henchmen with AK-47s. It’s pretty ridiculous for me to believe the guy has a heart of gold at that point, movie Nathan is a lot more believable.
Also, user reviews are pretty useless. Way too biased, and way too many 0’s and 10’s. Not saying I agree with the critics on this particular movie (I’d give it a solid 6.5), but I’d listen to them a thousand times before I gave the opinion of random neckbeard gamers or Adam Sandler loving moviegoers a second thought.
It’s a shame Moriarty is such an unlikeable prick, because he’s probably one of the most informed PlayStation fans with a podcast out there. Haven’t listened to him since Kinda Funny, and don’t plan on it.
Love my PS5, but most third party games run and look slightly better on Xbox Series X, Gamepass is fantastic, and I find it funny that you call yourself a retro gamer yet make no mention of the fact that Microsoft is destroying Sony and Nintendo in the backwards compatibility department. Also the dig at the Nintendo Switch is a little weird considering the fact that most of the gamers I know spend the most time on it compared to the other two. You’re all kinds of wrong, aren’t you?
This “game” has been a godsend for me who lives across the country from my nephew and the two of us have a blast playing it. It’s a ton of fun, sorry it isn’t for you. Also if by political propaganda you mean Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech then you’re seriously warped, because there’s nothing political about what that man worked and fought for. Not really sure it needed to be in a cartoony shooter game, but show some respect.
Good thing some of the most hyped recent releases (Forza, Halo) along with pretty recent AAA’s like Doom Eternal are also available on Gamepass if “fodder” isn’t your sort of thing, right? c;
Even better, FFXIV can pretty much be played as a single player game these days with the Trust system and NPCs to go through the dungeons with. I played the game heavily back in the day and loved the social aspect of it but now with Endwalker I’m pretty much just in it for the story. It isn’t going to make you love MMO combat if you’re not into that, though, and it definitely can get repetitive.
Sick, can’t wait to try this on Gamepass. It’s hard for me to get into JRPGs as I get older, but luckily I don’t have to feel bad about not seeing it through if it isn’t for me. The writing being the best in the series has me intrigued.
Again, the reason why Square Enix even bothered to put this out is because of the surge in Mana (the series as a whole) relevance. We had Secret of Mana on the SNES Classic, then a compilation of the first three games, and then a Trials remake. As much as I love these old games, remastering or remaking them just isn’t worth the investment for a business unless there’s a lot of interest there like there is for Mana games because of all of the recent releases. These games you list are great, but xenogears is pretty niche so expecting a resurrection of that game is a big ask. It would be cool, I agree with you, but how well do you think a remaster would do? You and I would buy it, but I just don’t see a whole lot of interest in it. Even at release the game definitely had a mixed reception. As for Legend of Mana, it was an easy remaster that’s sure to move copies just on the name alone. Newcomers to the series who got their start on the recent collection of mana and the Trials remake might buy it because of the name alone. It makes sense to me.
As much as I love Xenogears, you cannot argue with me that it saw even half as much commercial success as Secret of Mana. From a business standpoint this makes sense.
I’m guessing they’re hoping to cash in on this resurgence in interest in the Mana series. That being said, I actually really dig this game so I’m happy to see it get a remaster.
@nomither6 nah, you insulted other people who are happy with the post-launch DLC and acted like a manchild. You’re free to have whatever opinions you want, but when you support the thing you’re against, that opinion isn’t really worth respecting. Even if you don’t buy the DLC for this game, you’re telling ATLUS that releasing the game in this state is A-okay with you. You’re just as much of a shill to ATLUS as anyone else. You complaining to us isn’t going to change that.
@nomither6 I understand perfectly what you’re complaining about, yeah. I also understand that you’re directly contributing to the things you’re complaining about. My problem isn’t with what you’re trying to say, it’s that you’re contradicting yourself and that I can’t take your criticisms seriously.
By purchasing this game (which you admitted you're going to do), you're saying "Hey Atlus, I'm fine with you releasing an incomplete game at launch and selling gutted content" (though I disagree with that statement). THAT is your message to the company by buying their product. It's that simple.
You're the one getting overly emotional, shouting in caps and cussing because you know you're wrong. I've had plenty of problems with certain publishers and game developers in the past, and I don't buy their products anymore. There's a ton of good games out there, I'll gladly miss a few every now and then if it means my principle remains in tact.
"and no , i dont think a company cares about MY PERSONAL OPINION , just like they don't care whether ME , PERSONALLY , buys their game or not , i already said im not a significant factor - so why would i NOT buy the game when i wont make a difference either way"
But it does make a difference. If all of you guys who complained didn't buy the game, that would absolutely make a difference. The problem is you guys don't really have a backbone, and you just use the excuse that it won't make a difference so that you don't actually have to try and make a difference. It's lazy, it's weak, and it shows that you don't have strong principles. It's like saying you won't vote because it wouldn't make a difference anyway. Childish. You have the right to contradict your own arguments and not stand by your own beliefs, but don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
Lmao, I'm not going to address anything except the last part of your comment because your argument has already imploded on itself. All I'll say is that you're an even bigger shill than anyone who is happy with the game because despite your whining and complaining you're going to validate this company's decisions anyway by buying the game. The only difference between you and I is that I don't feel bad about putting my money down. If you had the spine to refuse to purchase this game you'd have legs to stand on. Pathetic.
@nomither6 Wait, so ARE you going to buy the game at launch? Because if you are, your entire argument holds no water whatsoever and if you aren't, you are not one of the people keeping the genre alive. By the way, it absolutely does benefit the consumer. I can buy the game knowing that it'll be supported for a good time after release and that I'll have more incentives to stick with it. I don't dip out a month after release, I help keep the community alive. You wouldn't care one bit about these post launch fighters if they were free, so get out of here with the complete game at launch BS. I literally gave you permission to buy what you wanted in my last comment, by the way. You're welcome.
No hardcore fighting game fan is going to complain about post-launch content.
Side tangent: Probably the most pathetic thing about "gamers" to me is that they'll complain about business practices they don't agree with in the industry and still buy the games regardless. If you do this you either have no backbone, weak willpower, self-worth issues, or all of the above. You really think a company cares that you complained on the internet if you're going to give them your money anyway? In what world are you actually proving a point? You cannot call someone a shill for being happy with their purchase when you're purchasing the same thing and complain about it because you aren't that bright.
@nomither6 "theres no legitimate reason a consumer can think of to justify it". Bro @rachetmarvel just gave you a perfectly legitimate reason to justify it, you refused to acknowledge his points and just regurgitated the same crap you said last time. If you don't like it, don't buy it or wait a few years when the playerbase is dead and gone so you can play casually alone, but you won't change the minds of hardcore fighting game fans because we're the ones who keep the genre alive.
This is actually incredibly sad considering the state the game launched in. I cannot believe the people who created The Witcher crapped this turd out. Don't pre-order, folks.
