Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?

Mr_Grumps

I’m going to be brutal, people may not like it but it is what is. Sony did incredibly well last gen.The problem was they then sat back, put their feet up and became complacent. Worse still - they did so at a time when Phil Spencer, backed by Enormous financial firepower from Microsoft, set about building an amazing eco system for Xbox and PC players. And here we are.

To put Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard into context, in purely financial terms that is the equivalent of Microsoft buying Nintendo outright. Just think about that. That was enough money to Buy Nintendo. That’s frightening. The thing is, I don’t think Microsoft are done yet. They could quite easily spend another $70 billion if they wanted to.

In the long term, I do find it quite difficult to see how Sony can compete with that power. Phil Spencer is no fool, he knows exactly what he’s doing and has all the backing and resources he could ever need to achieve it.

CoD - think I’m right in saying it will remain on PlayStation for another 2 or 3 years due to agreements. Microsoft have rightly said they will honour those agreements, not that they have a choice but hey. After that? I think they will tell Sony CoD can stay on PlayStation, the caveat being Sony allows a GamePass app on their consoles. Upon subscribing to GamePass, PlayStation owners too can have CoD day and date etc.

Of course, Microsoft would be very happy with that situation. More subscribers to their eco system. Exactly what they want. I think all Sony can really do is double down on their exclusives and make some acquisitions. Maybe From Software, Square Enix etc. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with with Spartacus. I’m not sure fans will be overly keen if it doesn’t match what Gamepass gives. I’m not sure Sony has the stomach to put their exclusives on there day and date, for example. We will see.

Re: Sony Suggests PS5 Price Is Still Undecided

Mr_Grumps

I’d happily pay £450-£500 for the PS5. We have to realise the amount of power built into it and that doesn’t come cheap. Then consider the ultra-fast SSD drive Sony have been talking about, and what I assume will be about 16GB of DDR6 Ram. I’m sure the AMD CPU and GPU must be costly, too. It all adds up! To be fair I think we have to be prepared to pay for all that tech.
