I'm interested in this, but I don't have any friends to play online with. I'll need more info about the solo experience, or at the very least I'll need to know more about what it's like to play with casuals.
I'll be playing Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. I like the game, but I've set myself the limit of just doing one level per day, as the overall experience does tend to stress me out quite a bit...!
I'd also like to return to Luigi's Mansion 2 on Switch at some point during the weekend.
I really do believe that Microsoft thinks of its Xbox consoles as only destined towards those who are already locked into their ecosystem and perhaps anyone else who might be interested in its specific features (for example, the comfort of the controller). Those people who have their digital libraries on Xbox are unlikely to shift over to PlayStation, or they might buy the Sony console but only for its exclusives and then just keep on using Gamepass on Xbox.
Microsoft are not basing their strategy on the console as such anymore, but rather seeking to gain revenue as a hybrid third-party publisher and console manufacturer. The console exists for you if you want it, if you like the characteristics of the Xbox ecosystem and GamePass, but hey - they'd be quite happy for you to buy their games at full price on other systems like PlayStation.
So, given these circumstances, why wouldn't they manufacture a console more powerful than PS6? They're giving you the option to exploit the extra raw power, if you want to; but they're equally cool with the idea of you just buying their games on Sony's machine. The only thing that I wonder is: how will they cover the costs of manufacturing? Will GamePass and revenue from software sales suffice? Time will tell I guess ...
I’ve put my PS5 on the side for a bit as there’s really nothing on it that I’m interested in playing right now. But I’ll be back, soon I’m sure 😉
That being said, I finished Indiana Jones on Xbox, but couldn’t get all the achievements as some were bugged for me, which is frustrating; the game though was absolutely fantastic as far as I’m concerned and I can see myself re-playing it on PS5 eventually, provided they fix the glitched achievements!
As I write this comment I’ve also just 100%ed Full Throttle Remastered (via Gamepass). I remember my cousin playing this back in 1995, and wouldn’t call it “nostalgic” for me as such, but still something that just stayed in my memory. It was good!
For the remainder of the weekend I’ll be playing Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, KONA, Unpacking, and one or two levels of Super Mario Wonder 🙃
Well, well, well .... I think it's gonna be mostly COD and Indiana Jones on Xbox this weekend.
Whilst I was in Mexico visiting my wife's family I also spent quite a bit of time with my Switch. I started and finished Doom 2016 (which I had already completed back when it was first released on PS4 ... great game!) and played through most of Super Mario Wonder, which I plan on completing 100% within this month.
As someone who grew up mostly on Nintendo and Sony consoles, I skipped a lot of SEGA games and would say I’m generally quite ignorant about their catalogue of titles. I recognise a few big names (e.g., Phantasy Star, Sonic, etc.), but don’t really have any meaningful experience playing them.
A subscription service would allow gamers like me to explore the SEGA catalogue with relative ease of access. I’d be especially interested in playing older titles from the Saturn and Dreamcast eras.
But I do get what others are saying about there being too many subscription services. I already pay for PS Plus Premium (temporarily suspended as I just bought a car) and Game Pass Ultimate. I love both, but it’s expensive.
Nevertheless, I’d be very intrigued by a SEGA subscription service. We’ll see ….
I’m taking time off work (I’m self-employed) from 24 December to 10 January, but there won’t be much space for gaming as I’ll be going to Mexico - my wife’s home country - and mostly just hanging out with her family who still lives over there.
I actually think it’ll be good to step away from gaming, momentarily at least. I’ve played tons of games this year, with 19 platinums on Playstation and at least a dozen 100% achievement completions on Xbox. I can’t say that I haven’t had my fill in 2024 😉
I won’t be watching, it’s too late for me and I have work the next day. I also never feel that I miss out by just reading the summaries the following day.
@nessisonett My thoughts exactly. Still, I’ll be picking this up, as I’ve had it on my wish list since they announced it and also because I’m a sucker for nostalgia (I remember when the original was released back in 2002…).
This weekend I’ll be playing Gris on PS5 for the first time. I’m also playing again the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Series S via Gamepass, after getting the platinums on Playstation a few years ago.
Aside from that, it’ll be the usual: BOPS 6 multiplayer on Series S and I’ve progressed with Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD too. I reckon I’ll get that last one done by next weekend. I might squeeze in a bit of Blood Omen 2 as well, if I have time; I thoroughly enjoyed getting the platinum for the first game!
It always looked interesting to me, and I'm glad it's been getting some recognition, but for some reason I just wasn't in the mood for a multiplayer live service game when it was released, and so I didn't get it.
I noticed though that it's on sale in the PS Store as part of the Black Friday promotion. I admit I am tempted to buy it now, but I'm already invested in the latest Call of Duty (on Xbox, via GamePass), and will certainly continue playing that live service game, so I dunno ...
When I saw this article I immediately went ahead and purchased Dino Crisis. However, I already beat the game when it was released a few weeks ago and, unless they add trophy support for it, I won’t be going back to it any time soon.
Oh it’s the first Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen (1996) game for me. The game is just as I remember it: basically oozing evil vibes everywhere, and Kain really is a complete b*****d! I love it! True, it’s quite clearly a game from another era, but I too am a gamer from that past era … let me revel in my nostalgia haha 😃
Aside from that, I’m still playing BOPS 6 on my series S. I recently prestiged and now working my way up the levels again.
I’ve pre-ordered the games, yeah. I don’t usually do that, not even for Sony 1st party titles and most triple AAA releases (the most recent exception would be FF7 Rebirth). But I really do love all the Legacy of Kain games! My old man heart is so happy knowing I’ll play them again 🥲
@Broosh I am so so excited for Blood Omen!!! I remember playing Blood Omen 2 back in the day... I think most people would agree that it wasn’t a great game but the nostalgia is real for me 🥲 I just WISH they let us buy these games and please give us trophy support too!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I finished the campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and, although I enjoyed it a lot, I think I still prefer Cold War. At some point I’ll get back to the campaign for that veteran run and to mop up the other achievements; for now I’m going to focus on the multiplayer and a bit of zombies here and there.
I also recently started SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, both of which I’ve been enjoying so far.
All of the above I’ve been playing on Xbox Series S (Gamepass). I haven’t played my PS5 in a while and it will probably stay that way for a bit longer; I got 17 platinums this year (that’s a lot for me - full time job and married), so I’m showing some love to my other consoles right now.
Finally, I’m still playing Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on Switch. It’s … good. I have to say, this series really should be my jam, and I DO like it, but … I dunno! every time I play a Luigi’s Mansion game I feel it has something missing for me. Still, I’ll carry on with it and expect to finish it sometime soon.
I got the platinum for The Plucky Squire on Tuesday and finished Dino Crisis on Wednesday, so now I’m shifting attention to my Xbox Series S, where I’m still playing BOPS 6 (mostly multiplayer and some zombies). I’m also going to give Persona 5 Tactica a go this weekend; it’s leaving Game Pass soon and I’ve been thinking of trying it for quite some time now.
I’m also playing on Switch where I’m alternating between Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Castlevania: Anniversary.
I’m in a phase right now where I’m playing different games at the same time, which is quite unusual for me …
Anyway, this weekend it’ll be: The Plucky Squire and Dino Crisis on PS5, Pentiment and COD: Black Ops 6 on XSS, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Super Castlevania IV on Switch.
I’m jumping around quite a bit this weekend … On PS5, Metaphor: Refantazio Demo and Dino Crisis; on Xbox Series S, Pentiment and Halo: Combat Evolved; and, if I have time, a bit of Luigi’s Mansion 2 on Switch.
I’ll see if I can play a bit more of The Last of Us: Part 1 (played it years ago on PS4, now enjoying the “free” PS5 version released on PS Plus), and Mafia: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series S (what an incredible game …).
There may be all sorts of reasons as to why electronic devices, including the PS5 Pro, have risen in price. That doesn’t change the fact that the average wage in Europe (and especially in Southern Europe, where I live) hasn’t risen enough to a level that may be considered fully aligned with these kinds of prices. It may be different in the US and elsewhere, but that’s how we have it over here.
I’ve been priced out by Sony this time, simple as. I just can’t afford the PS5 Pro; no way, not when I have to pay rent, taxes, and all other sorts if living costs. I don’t live badly, but I know I can’t fork out €800 (mininum, excluding accessories) for a gaming console. €600? Maybe, I’ll think about it … but not €800.
If we are indeed looking at these prices for consoles, then I’ll just have to put up with that - hoping that prices decrease in the future, obviously. But at that point I’d also starting looking at the PC echo system. I might as well, given that consoles seem to be closing the price gap.
I actually cannot believe I would say that, seeing as I’ve gamed my entire life on console only, since the NES in the late 80s. I know PC brings with it a host of other issues (and is certainly not cheap), but I don’t know … I just feel disillusioned with the console gaming industry right now.
I never played this game but I remember the somewhat intense advertising surrounding it at the time (on games magazines, etc.). I guess nobody truly asked for it to be re-released on modern consoles, but I’ll be buying this for sure!
I’m incredibly excited for this! Astro’s Playroom is the only game from this franchise that I’ve played and it was enough to win me over completely. So creative, so beautiful, and charming … I can’t wait for the next instalment 👍👍👍
I finished FF7 Rebirth’s main story, now onto clearing the remaining side quests and I’ll try to get as far as possible with those VR missions. I don’t really know for how much longer I’ll carry on: I don’t feel burned out, and I do love the game, but I’ve already logged over 130 hours and it sounds like getting the platinum involves a mostly unnecessary and torturous slog 😨 … dunno, we’ll see!
If I’m a COD player and have 100 digital games purchased and installed on my PS5 (with trophies, platinums, friends, communities, etc. — all that in the PS ecosystem), am I really going to fork out the money for an Xbox Series console just to subscribe to Game Pass and play COD? I say no; I’ll just buy the latest COD on PS5. Alternatively I could play it on PC Game Pass. Either way Microsoft would be losing money the way I see it.
I may be wrong but COD is not going to make a massive difference to Game Pass subscriptions in the long run; perhaps a boost in subscriptions in the immediate future but no more than that. I also don’t understand how this makes sense on a more basic economic level: how are they going to recoup the costs for creating and marketing these COD games? Do Game Pass subscriptions make up for that? I have my doubts …
I prefer the original Greek trilogy - especially 1 & 2 - over the latest games they've released. I liked the sheer brutality and craziness of the set pieces, and frankly found permanently-ultra-angry Kratos a lot more entertaining.
I feel like the discussion around Stellar Blade has significantly died down, but it could just be me. Still, happy to see it’s doing well in Japan. I’ll get round to it at some point as I played the demo before release and liked it.
@BecauseBecause I didn't know that...! I looked up the game after seeing your comment and it sounds like the writer was still messing around with the whole alternative time concept. Thanks for sharing, I love this kind of videogame trivia haha
@LifeGirl Same. It's one of those games that I remember seeing in the shops and wondering about but never bought nor got round to playing, despite it popping up here and there on the internet in the following years. Looks like now I'll have my chance to finally try it out. Let's hope it's worth it haha
This is the result of massive spending (Bethesda & AKB acquisitions) unsupported by steady return on sales of consoles and games (they have trained their audience not to buy games after all).
It’s a little sad to see this unfold; I still remember playing Halo CE for the first time on the OG Xbox. It was amazing at the time!
But the leadership at Xbox has just not been up to scratch for a decade or more now, and that’s why we see these talks of Master Chief, Marcus Fenix & Co on Playstation. The business reality is finally kicking in.
Let’s hope it’s true. A cool forgotten gem I’d like to see them include in PS Plus could be “Shadow of Memories”; I remember playing that as a kid and thinking it was super weird, but interesting too. I’d also appreciate having the Sly Cooper trilogy, which I know is available on streaming but it’s not the same thing imo.

But the leadership at Xbox has just not been up to scratch for a decade or more now, and that’s why we see these talks of Master Chief, Marcus Fenix & Co on Playstation. The business reality is finally kicking in.
Re: New PS2 Emulator Appears to Be Imminent on PS5, PS4
Let’s hope it’s true. A cool forgotten gem I’d like to see them include in PS Plus could be “Shadow of Memories”; I remember playing that as a kid and thinking it was super weird, but interesting too. I’d also appreciate having the Sly Cooper trilogy, which I know is available on streaming but it’s not the same thing imo.
Re: Ubisoft Cancels Free-to-Play Shooter The Division Heartland
Was this meant to be another live-service game? Maybe I’m just ignorant but I’ve never heard of it.
Re: 13 New Games Joining PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Aside from RDR2, which I already own, there's nothing of great import. I might check out the Cat Quests games .... someday ... not a great month!
