Re: Ubisoft Will Reportedly Fight for Assassin's Creed Shadows, Anti-Harassment Plan in Place

@SpaceElf I'm not one to defend corporations but that was wildly misquoted by multiple outlets. Here's the bit where this came from:

"The question remains around the potential of the subscription model in games. Tremblay says that there is "tremendous opportunity for growth", but what is it going to take for subscription to step up and become a more significant proportion of the industry?

"I don't have a crystal ball, but when you look at the different subscription services that are out there, we've had a rapid expansion over the last couple of years, but it's still relatively small compared to the other models," he begins. "We're seeing expansion on console as the likes of PlayStation and Xbox bring new people in. On PC, from a Ubisoft standpoint, it's already been great, but we are looking to reach out more on PC, so we see opportunity there.

"One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. That's the consumer shift that needs to happen. They got comfortable not owning their CD collection or DVD collection. That's a transformation that's been a bit slower to happen [in games]. As gamers grow comfortable in that aspect… you don't lose your progress. If you resume your game at another time, your progress file is still there. That's not been deleted. You don't lose what you've built in the game or your engagement with the game. So it's about feeling comfortable with not owning your game.

"I still have two boxes of DVDs. I definitely understand the gamers perspective with that. But as people embrace that model, they will see that these games will exist, the service will continue, and you'll be able to access them when you feel like. That's reassuring."

Re: Death Stranding 2 Puts Early Access Incentives Under the Microscope All Over Again

Honestly, I feel far too many people are far to invested in what other people choose to spend their money on. If you don't like something don't spend your money on it, simple as that. Whining about something that doesn't affect you in any meaningful way is pointless. Support what you want, disregard what you don't. A waste of money to you might hold value to someone else.

Re: Despite Strong Criticism, Days Gone PS5 Is Climbing Up the PS Store Pre-Order Charts

@bindiana The argument could be made that a remake or remaster DOES lead to at least 1 new entry in a dormant franchise. The Insane Trilogy led to Crash Bandicoot 4 and after a remake of the original Ratchet & Clank, we eventually got Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart. You could also make the argument that remakes, remasters, and collections led to a resurgence in stagnate franchises such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Mega Man, and Castlevania.

@bindiana The original Dead Space trilogy sold 6 million units total (Dead Space 3's sales numbers are limited to what it sold in its first 3 months on the market, which according to VG Chartz was 605K units). Dead Space remake sold 2 million units.

As of June 2024, the original Lollipop Chainsaw has sold 1.24 million units, while the remake has thus far sold 200K units.

The original Shadows of The Dammed sold 24K units on PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America combined with an additional 9K units sold in Japan, while it's remake sold between at least 6K to 9K according to Steam charts (I couldn't find console sales).

So I wouldn't exactly say those are good examples to further your opinion.

The one I will agree with you on is Spyro. The original trilogy sold 11.4 million units while the remake trilogy sold 10 million units.

Re: Horizon's MMO Appears to Have Been Cancelled

I don't have any issue with Sony making a GAAS push, but it has to make sense and more importantly, it NEEDS to be compelling. They also need to stop putting time and money into these endeavors and then shelving them. They need to really look inwards and find something compelling and fun, then commit to it. Because thus far, we only have Helldivers 2 and Concord to show for it and Concord died after just 2 weeks.

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

LordGlarc

I don't think Nintendo will or needs to compete with anyone. They know they make solid (if underpowered) hardware with unique games only they can make and they know that most people buy the Switch (and now the Switch 2) as a companion to their main gaming console.

I thought it was pretty good, solid 7/10. Combat was really satisfying and punchy. Visually very nice looking and the sound design was decent. But like many have stated, it gets repetitive and honestly doesn't warrant a second playthrough. Doesn't deserve the hate it gets though.
