As a physical media collector this does solve the main annoyance of physical, which is having to get up off the couch and swap discs/having to consider what game you currently have in your console for remote play.
This has always been my issue with the concept of them removing the fake, shovelware, ai slop games: I have no faith in their ability to deploy real humans, that are extremely knowledgeable and able to understand nuance to do it without removing real games.
There is no perfect solution to this problem imo, but I think the best answer is curate the way the store displays games as opposed to curating what is allowed to be sold entirely.
Even that slop game that we know from a half second glance to be fake ai garbage- keep it in a segmented section on the store that someone would have to choose to specifically go to and search through.
The only issue that these shovelware games cause is one of visibility and that feels like something they could easily solve and make the PSN store more "shopable" in how games and sections/categories are presented without removing anything. Real games would undoubtedly get put in the shovelware section mistakenly sometimes, but they'd still at least exist on the store so the developer (and consumer) would at least have some recourse and option instead of just having to **** off.
I don't need John Sony or whoever else deciding what gets to be classified as a "real" game or not, I can make that decision for myself. You can talk about the virtues of a curated store, but who the hell is the curator? I'll take all options available over the possibility of them removing something I'd potentially want.
I don't consider "easy" and "doable" to be the same thing when it comes to trophy lists, but I realize I'm on an island with that one. The community seems to look at trophies in a binary way, they are either easy or hard but frankly I think there is wide spectrum in between.
At any rate, I for one would appreciate the list not being like a typical fighting game plat, which essentially bars non-fighting game vets and dedicated sickos from the plat. If the plat is reasonably doable it would give me reason to play more than just running through the story mode and then dipping out of the game.
I just have to say this somewhere, this game makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
The hype for it is beyond insane. I mean, I plan to get it, and by all accounts I fully expect it to be at least good, and probably great. But it could end up being the general consensus GOTY, it could end up being an all-time classic and it still wouldn't warrant the hype and expectation of this thing.
It's just another game, you complete it in, I don't know, let's say 30 hours, maybe 60 hours for a completionist... And then it's on to the next, no matter how great it is (I get that there are those who are going to RP their second life in GTA online, but I'm pretty sure they're also already doing that so).
It's not being treated like a long anticipated, awesome video game, it's being treated like pinnacle of all media to ever to exist. I'm not even trying to poo poo people's excitement. But there's excitement and hype and then there is what GTA6 is attracting. It's madness. Apologies for the rant lol.
Played the beta and Nba the Run felt like a solid successor to NBA Street, but tbh I'm disappointed it's a multiplayer only game. I thought it was have traditional single player modes but seems that's not the case.
@Quintumply
How is the trophy/platinum experience?
Is it as RNG dependent as Returnal?
Do you think the quality of life improvements and bit of flexibility to customize difficulty make it more doable to someone who found Returnal too punishing?
I remember that I played neopets a bunch as a kid, but I don't actually remember anything about it. Beyond just seeing the word "neopets", I don't think these minigames would trigger any nostalgia in me so there's no value to be found for me. If I had a better memory, this would be neat just for the hell of it.
@RBMango it's just normies who can't fathom the concept of visual novels as a game genre.
It's a shame this won't come to Playstation, I mean I think there's a slim possibility they put out, maybe some kind of double pack or dump both games on PSN in like a year, but in this particular case my bet is that's unlikely.
That's correct that trophies aren't the end all be all, but they are still a component of a game. All the components come together to make the whole. Some components matter more than others of course, but they all do matter. Trophies or achievements matter... obviously the degree to which depends on the person.
Danganronpa and Zero Escape are at the top of my all-time favorite franchises... I adore AI The Somnium Files, I think Rain Code is great. I am THE target audience for a Kodaka and Uchikoshi game...
But I'll never buy anything on Switch that isn't Nintendo exclusive IP and I never play games on my PC or Steam Deck, just have no desire to play there. My money is waiting for them when they decide to finally release on PS5 and that goes for merch too.
@Titntin Aside from the 3 gifts per day to give out to the characters (which does gate progress since you need to get different characters to certain levels before some new quests become available) there are daily and weekly quests. There are also little events that run for a few days, I'm not sure how frequently those occur or re-appear.
Good. It's the perfect model for a subscription service like this for me.
I'm weird, I WANT to own my games. The day 1 games that do go on Extra generally being a bit more niche, games you're possibly not anticipating and would try but not care to buy is the exact sweet spot. I don't want Ghost of Yotei, for example, on PS Extra because I want to buy it and have it. If it was on the service it would just make me feel like a jackass buying something I technically already have access to.
You're not playing Playstation games on an Xbox. This device isn't even an actual Xbox, but do these distinctions even matter? I guess that's up to the individual haha.

What I'm trying to say is, Gamers were a mistake
