Re: Reaction: E3 2016's Off to a Very Disappointing Start

HandheldGuru97

Just wanted to pop in from Nintendo Land to comment. It seems like this year is a case of expectations getting way out of hand. I kept an eye on Bethesda's stream, and was pretty disappointed too. I think the amount of leaks (largely for the big 3rd parties like EA and Bethesda) and the lack of leaks for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft is impressive and, unfortunately, dampening the hype. However, gaming's 3rd parties are starting to look a little to much like Hollywood. Bigger budgets, but less risk. More remakes/remasters, sequels and less big name risk takers....I hate that direction Hollywood has gone down, and it scares and disappoints me that it appears to be video gaming is following Hollywood into that trap. Still, I'll keep one ear to Sony and Microsoft, see what comes of them (although as a Ninty fan...probably won't be much for me) Tomorrow starts Nintendo's show case...and if E3 really is in such a bad state...hell maybe they'll run away with the show they barely wanted to show up to in the first place!

Re: Rock Those Blocks, Dragon Quest Builders Is Heading West This Year on PS4, Vita

HandheldGuru97

Disappointed that it's digital onl....BUT ITS STILL COMING OUT IN THE WEST, ON THE VITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woop! Woop! Praise be the Goddess! Praise be! Day one purchase, hopefully this doesn't come out too close to VII (or for that matter VIII) on the 3DS. As a DQ fan, this thirtieth anniversary is going to be glorious.

Re: Is This the Beginning of the End for the PlayStation Vita?

HandheldGuru97

Damn shame to hear this, but it isn't too surprising sadly. I do doubt that full discontinuation is coming in 2016, sales are stable(ish) enough in Japan to limp it into 2017. Smaller regions like India or the Netherlands, getting axed help cut costs on an other wise unsuccessful money hole.

Now, that all that stuffy, disheartening analysis and opinions are out of the way, let me say. As the 3DS too has faded into her twilight years, I have turned to the Vita, and fallen in love. Next to the Atari Lynx it is easily one of my favorite non-Nintendo handhelds, and up there (next to the Lynx) as the best handheld no one has played. An unbelievably quirky library, with plenty of gems to dive into. I haven't quite gotten into the digital stuff, 3DS still hogs most of the digital dollars, but most retail games I have are highly enjoyable and all have been bought for under (or around) $20. The Vita and 3DS, in my opinion, should stand side by side as equals this generation. They are both great handhelds, both stumbled early, but sadly only one was able to get up and run to the finish line. Still, for those still on the fence as the Vita fades out, give it a shot, its well worth the investment!

Re: Sony Switches Off PlayStation TV Shipments in Japan

HandheldGuru97

I know I never really comment over here, but I must say that isn't too surprising. The Vita TV bombed harder than even I thought possible for Japan. Still it is a sign of the times, if Sony is culling the TV in Japan...maybe the cut the Vita off here in the west...I really hope not because it really is a charming handheld. This is coming form a huge Nintendo supporter, but man Sony really messed up on the Vita.

Re: Dragon Quest XI Is Officially Confirmed for PS4

HandheldGuru97

Damn! Woke up at 2:00am out here (curse my damn internal clock for knowing when the announcement was.......), thanks @get2sammyb for the stream! The PS4 version looks drop dead gorgeous, but as a HandheldGuru at heart...the 3DS....I need it...wowza. It looks sooooooooooooooo awesome! A 2D SNES Style RPG on the Touch Screen.....and that little touch with the D-Pad battle screen...wow. That is so cool! Both have a distinct and really pretty art style. I need it. Like now. You win this time though Sammy, we'll get the PS4 version in the west...but no 3DS version. Ugh, why can't Enix and Ninty get there act together bring the west some 3DS DQ goodies...there are like ten DQ's now that we won't get. And I would buy them all!!!! Hm...It might be high time to learn Japanese and import a New 3DS (with some faceplates) and grab box of all the JP DQ's that I need.
But Back to DQXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hype!!!!!!! It's a good day to be a Nintendo and Sony Fan!!!!! Now lets hope they both come westward!!!

Re: E3 2015: Sony's Done Making Big Games for PS Vita

HandheldGuru97

Tch...damn shame, damn shame. I know my profile picture is a 3DS XL (I should update it as I have a New 3DS XL now ) But I am a HandheldGuru...and I sure won't discriminate, against any handheld! ('cept maybe a Game.com....even that I still sorta like...when I can see the game) But back to the Vita, it really is a great handheld. Some really unique and imaginative games....a little to Japanese-y for some, but I'd say its just right. I do need to start buying more Vita games...my nearby Gamestop has start narrowing down the selection....maybe on Sunday...I'll pick up a couple under $20 titles...

Re: Talking Point: Has Sony's Dithering Turned Off PS Vita TV's Chances?

HandheldGuru97

Personally I'm not sure Sony really knows what to do with the Vita in general. Is it a micro console that can be hooked up the the TV and enjoyed in full HD??? Is it a 2nd screen/crazy expensive accessory to the PS3/4???? Or is it a dedicated handheld with a unique library, competing directly against the 3DS??? Personally I just want it to stay a handheld and be a handheld. Sony is trying and trying to make it relevant, I think that chance has come and gone. Still that won't stop me from enjoying it, I may only have 4 games thus far, but I definitely see the potential...as a handheld, not an accessory or microconsole. That's what I want from Sony on the Vita a handheld that is just...a handheld.

Re: PS4's Virtual Reality Headset Project Morpheus Officially Unveiled

HandheldGuru97

Hmmmmmmmm interesting move by Sony not surprising though as we've been hearing about it for months now ....Not sure what to think about it right now, I don't want to be seen as a fanboy so I'll stay here in the middle for now. Hopefully (and most likely) the tech has come a long way from the mid 90's, but we all know how VR went then....I don't want to see Sony get burned on this.....hrmmmmmmmmmm........I'll keep an eye on this little device....for now.

Re: Talking Point: Is the Vita Really Dying a 'Slow, Painful Death'?

HandheldGuru97

Hello Push Squarers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Neo-GeoFan from Nintendolife coming in for a quick visit!!!!!!!!!!!!! I firstly want to say I mostly only play on handhelds. As such I have been keenly watching the Vita over the last few years. I have ADORED the 3DS (one of the best handhelds ever BTW). But a Gamestop after Christmas sale appeared and made a used Vita as cheap as a 2DS so I figured, "what the hell???" And boy I don't regret it.
While the 3DS is still handheld choice (30 some odd games to 3 ATM so the 3DS is constantly in my pocket) the Vita has not just surprised me, its shocked me. Gravity Rush is amazing, Wipeout 2048 is fantastic and MLB 12 the Show is well just plain fun!!!!!! It is great handheld, but it is dying a slow and awful death it doesn't deserve. I wish Sony would step up the game on the Vita and help it is survive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still for now as a late coming there seems to be plenty I need to catch up on and I can't wait to see what else this little machine has up its sleeve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
