Phew. For a minute there, we were beginning to doubt that Dragon Quest Builders would ever sail overseas, but Square Enix has delivered some good news. The clearly Minecraft-inspired role-playing release will be heading West later this year on both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. We bet that you're relieved to hear that, handheld enthusiasts.
However, only the PS4 version will be available at retail, while the portable edition will be exclusive to the PlayStation Store. The title was reasonably well received when it launched in Japan earlier this year, so here's hoping that it meets Western expectations. It'll release this October across North America and Europe, although no precise date has been issued just yet.
Take a look at the charming announcement trailer, and then build some hype in the comments section below.

Yes Yes Yes!!!!! I will most definitely be getting this!
Great news! Now announce Dragon Quest Heroes II already, SE!
Awesome! Looks neat, I just wonder how enticing the single player will be.
Yay!
For me it feels a better fit for Vita, so I'll go with it!
Never been into Minecraft but this looks brilliant! Mind you I love anything Dragon Quest related Looking forward to this one!
Have been looking forward to this, but a few weeks after FFXV puts it on the back burner for awhile. It may not be a traditional JRPG, but close enough, I need to spread those out.
I wonder if Squenix will give it a lower price? Hard to release this and FFXV weeks apart at the same price point. I really don't understand how almost all video games are $60, they are obviously different experiences w/ different budgets, shouldn't they be priced as such? Downloads get it right, free to $19.99. Occasionally higher, but I think $20 is the upper range these days.
On my shopping list for Xmas!
I don't really like Minecraft, but THIS I can get behind. Feed my Vita
I know I am not probably the target market for this game but it does look fun. Strange me saying that because Minecraft did not appeal to me at all.
I'm not huge into minecraft but I am into dragon quest, which is it more of...
Love Terraria but not into minecraft. Something about it is off-putting. This I can definitely get behind though. If it reviews well I will pick it up eventually.
Disappointed that it's digital onl....BUT ITS STILL COMING OUT IN THE WEST, ON THE VITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woop! Woop! Praise be the Goddess! Praise be! Day one purchase, hopefully this doesn't come out too close to VII (or for that matter VIII) on the 3DS. As a DQ fan, this thirtieth anniversary is going to be glorious.
Perfect. Vita version it is hopefully it sells well enough for them to bring DQ Heroes 2 to Vita as well! Hope 7 and 8 aell well on 3ds so square see the demand and bring DQ11 west too!
The Vita resurgence is real. Oh it's real people.
Odin Sphere, World of Final Fantasy, Trails of Cold Steel pt 2, Hatsune Miku Project Diva X, God Eater Resurrection and Rage Burst... now Dragon Quest Builders.
Shame it's digital only. My 64gb memcard was filled long ago. Now it's the musical chairs shuffle for new releases.
@fchinaski I assume they're saving the DQH II release date for E3 or TGS...
